ATC are excellent value for money products. They all sound superb. The only thing I would add is a sub for my studio. The SCM19 bass/mid dome is similar to the legendary ATC mid driver dome used in the SCM40s, and gives you a hint of what the ATC mid driver can do. Beware if you buy the SCM19, as you may want to audition the SCM40s. The mid driver is phenomenal on vocals.

I have been an happy owner of the scm11s for the past four years. I had taken the time to compare them to the scm19 and I fully share your opinion on these two ATC speakers. Since then, I have added a pair of REL T/5i subs and the combination with the scm11 is absolutely tremendous.
The 19s are an overall better speaker, but per the vid, I'd take the 11's and a good sub over the 19s alone any day. For those who can spend the cash, the 19s + a good musical sub and quality gear is really impressive audio.
Late to the game here, but this just helped me understand how good it would be just to get the 11’s. I’m currently using some Quad S2’s with a Rel t7/x, which I do adore in many ways being that it has that amazing ribbon tweeter, but I really want a sealed set of speakers with even more refinement and much more controlled precision throughout the frequencies for the smallish room I’m using. Hoping the ATC’s would be a good jump forward 🙏🏼
I'm glad you found it useful. The 19s + Velodyne sub is really impressive. Some day I will do two subs, perhaps using REL subs, as an obvious place to upgrade the sound.
@@citronski There's no system that does not benefit a lot or a little from the addition of a quality sub (or two!), especially those that are not full range like those 19s. But, has to a top quality musical sub, not something that just goes thump thump for HD. As I mentioned, If the budget was between the 19s and the 11's with a quality sub, I'd go the latter route every time.
Have you tried hypex ncx500 monoblock or Schiit Vidar monoblock with ATC speakers? I like the sound of scm7 and ICE class D(500w at 8ohm) and trying to upgrade both my speakers and amp. Looking at scm19 at the moment.
Only two amps I have used with the ATCs was a Tag-Mclaren and then the Anthem STR Integrated, which is the current set up and reviewed on this channel if interested.
Hi Will, thanks for the review. I'm looking to upgrade my current B&W CM5 stand mount speakers. You might find it curious that here in Australia the SCM11s sell for $2360 US dollars vs $3777 US dollars for the SCM 19s. I find it hard to believe they are cheaper here than in the U.S. By way of comparison the Klipsch heritage speakers (Cornwalls, Heresy etc.) are approximately 2.5x the price here compared to the U.S. To my mind this makes the SCM 19s a no brainer to purchase.
Not being a big fan of Klipsch, and knowing how good the 19s are, I tend to agree. However, Klipsch - using horns - and ATC, are apples and oranges in design approaches.
Ok I have to chime in. Not a little difference in all areas but a lot of difference in every area and particularly the area covered by that mid-bass driver. I did the same comparison at Musicdirect with Bes Nievera ( I live in walking distance to them) and the 19v2's simply put throw an unusually large stage. In fact from my position that stage became ever wider as it went back further becoming wider at the back from the V shape created with the seating position and the speakers. Musicdirect built two sound rooms not that long ago with enough space to audition just about any speaker made. One thing about the 19's is that because of their, I think 84 dBw efficiency they need some muscle powering them. Bes used expensive Esoteric equipment, even their Network player (the stuff is gorgeous) and the differences between speakers became very easy to tell apart. Don't get me wrong , the 11's are fantastic. Really great, until you here better ATC stuff. One thing and an important area of sound you missed is dynamics and if you compare ATC to almost anybody else you will realize just how effortless they sound. It's like they never run out of steam. It was at the 1986 summer CES where I first heard ATC speakers. The 100's tri-amped. I had listened to all sorts of reference systems; four cabinet 7 1/2 foot 1500 pound systems, etc. over three days. Then I walked into ATC's room looking rather modest by comparison some of the insane setups their. Two pairs of speakers and two gentlemen quietly conducting business. What I heard took my breath away. It was like the first time hearing a symphony going full tilt. It took a few minutes to put into words but it was the most uncompressed sound that I ever heard. It just seemed like its dynamic range went on forever! I think that the 19v2's use of that incredible mid-bass driver that is used in some their best speakers qualifies them as the best bargain in their lineup. That incredible dynamic ranges clarity coupled to the soundstage they produce. And one more thing, make sure all the screws are tight. Makes all the difference particularly in sealed enclosures. I could go on and wax poetic about the dealer that used to be in town that had a home theater built around ATC 100's for the front, 50's for the rear and something I forgot what, for the center channel the size of a refrigerator lying on its side all tri-amped with a custom Barco 9" optics projector that essentially blew away any theater that I've ever been in. I said enough
You make lots of good points! Here’s my responses to a few: “…difference in all areas but a lot of difference in every area and particularly the area covered by that mid-bass driver.” There was an enough of a difference I kept the 19s, but not 2X the cost worth of difference, hence the discussion of diminishing returns. I kept the 19s, but per vid, if I only had 4k to spend, I tell people to go with the 11s and a good sub all day. “ One thing about the 19's is that because of their, I think 84 dBw efficiency they need some muscle powering them.” I mentioned that too, yet I’m beyond impressed how good they sound an lower listening volumes. I ended up bi amping them using my 5 channel amp, and just added an Anthem STR integrated which has gobs of power and sounds great with the 19s. Review of the Anthem is in the works… “One thing and an important area of sound you missed is dynamics and if you compare ATC to almost anybody else you will realize just how effortless they sound. It's like they never run out of steam.” I did cover that and mention no matter how hard I drove them, they never started to compress, no doubt due to how overbuilt and well engineered they are. “I think that the 19v2's use of that incredible mid-bass driver that is used in some their best speakers qualifies them as the best bargain in their lineup. That incredible dynamic ranges clarity coupled to the soundstage they produce.” Even the most expensive speaker they make is still a bargain by high end audio standards as the SCM line even more so. If I was starting over and had more space, I’d get the SCM40A. Actives are where it’s at and no one does actives better than ATC. If/when I move up the ATC line, I will sell the 19s and my amps, and get the SCM40As.
@@willbrink I missed the the part in your review how the speakers didn't compress the sound. Sorry about that. I was working and listening to your video at the same time. Good comparison. Thanks. I've only had the 11 for a few months, but I'm already getting the itch like you. I've been through a lot of the top brands, and ATC sounds the most real to me. Like you said, everything feels like it has extra weight to it. Even a simple guitar string pluck has nice impact. I have some Harbeths as well that are good for casual listening, but I think they are a little overrated. The imaging from the ATC is hard to beat.
I can't say the 19s are 2X as good as the 11s, but they are the better speaker across the spectrum if you wanna make that jump. Or, add a sub to the 11s and you'll be happy for sure. Just make sure to use a sub that can really match up to the 11s.
@@willbrink Ended up getting a Rythmik FM8. Matches well I think. I'm also going to try out the SCM19s. My guess is I'll end up keeping them, but we'll see. I got a decent trade-in offer for the 11s.
@@TH-lo8mq Cool. I don't know the brand of sub, but it's matching up well to the 11s, enjoy. I suspect if you try the 19s you will not wanna give them back. I warned you! :)
@@willbrink Well, I am actually going to return the 19s. I can tell why they use this driver in their pro monitors. The driver is clearly higher resolution and has better separation, but it didn't really come alive until higher volumes, and at that point my ears and head were hurting. I think the driver is just producing too much sound pressure for my area. I've had this problem with sealed subs as well. While I do like the sealed sound, ported speakers seem to be better on my ears. For some reason, the 11 doesn't have the same effect that the 19 had.
Hi Will, thanks for the review! My main question for you is: how would you characterize he feel and quality of the cabinet? Does the cabinet at least feel worthy of the 4,000$ price tag?
Everything about the ATCs screams quality in looks, build quality, and of course sound. There's speakers costing more that don't say quality build and engineering as the ATCs do. The cabinets pass the "knock test" very well as expected. Considering they're hand built in the UK, I consider them an excellent value.
@@willbrink I have the SCM19 v2. I think the cabinet feels hollow. Everything else is of high quality however. I think they made measurements and felt the cabinet doesn't make that much of a difference. Anyway, i recommend them.
@@citronski They measured with and without bracing and didn't see any differences. They focused on what matters most, the drivers, and those are top quality.
"once youve listened to something better, theres no going back" so true. I had dynaudio special 40s and loved them, then was so stupid to go to an audio show and listen to 10 and 20k towers. It was hard for me to want to go back to my bookshelfs...tragic
Superb objective overview, have you compared the 11s and 19s to the SCM 40, they seem excellent value and pure three way with three binding posts for multiple amplification.
Some where in the responses was talk about SCM40, but no, I have not. 11 vs 19s, is more apples 2 apples comparison. The 19s + a good sub, what I'm running now, compared to the 40s, would make for a good comparison though.
Awesome video, Will. I have really been looking at these 19s and going back and forth with the Revel 126Be. What components are you using aside from the Marantz streamer?
Im using a tag mclaren pre and amp, which is older gear but fantastic gear, and a Marantz SACD/CD player. All around excellent sounding set up, especially with the ATC 19s + Velodyne sub.
Thanks for this video. Trying to decide between the 2 right now. Wondering any comments on how they play at lower volumes lets say 70-80db? I hear different comments about the ATC's saying they sound great turned up only?
@@willbrink Excellent review again just watched it. I have a 20 x11 room with a Moon pre amp and W5 amp 190 per side with dedicated power line and transparent cables. @WillBrink thanks for this video! I would greatly appreciate your input on these questions that came from watching your video: 1) you said sound signature differs, in what ways? 2) do you know if the more robust drivers in the 19 mean it will have greater lifespan? 3) I read somewhere the pro line scm12 and 20 Pro are using the same drivers and sound the same as the 11 and 19. Is that true and do you know what the differences are? 4) what subwoofer do you use that mates well with the 11 and 19? 5) what are the differences between v2 and v3? A move to in-house drivers? Thanks in advance!
1) you said sound signature differs, in what ways? I covered that in the vid 2) do you know if the more robust drivers in the 19 mean it will have greater lifespan? Any well made speaker not abused will outlast most owners, especially with modern materials. The 19s will have a higher power handling capacity. 3) I read somewhere the pro line scm12 and 20 Pro are using the same drivers and sound the same as the 11 and 19. Is that true and do you know what the differences are? I don't have any experience with the pro line stuff so can't say. Have not looked at any tech differences between them. 4) what subwoofer do you use that mates well with the 11 and 19? High quality musical subs of which there are many today. Per vid, I have been using the same sub for a long time, which at the time was one of the few really musical subs. Today there's a wide selection. I'd research that on a site like Gene DellaSala's site Audioholics where they do objective testing without usual audio fairy dust... 5) what are the differences between v2 and v3? A move to in-house drivers? Thanks in advance! I'm not aware of a v3 11/19 model. V2 are all in house designed and built drivers. You can see vids from their place discussing all that.

AH....ATC, at moment .40v2....7.....and P1 amp..... They are realy something spetial Only one thing, where they not play as they can...is low level of volume They nead mid/high volumes to sing as the can Maybe Am wrong...maybe doing something wrong But, that is my experiance 👍😊🔝🔉🎶🔊
Are the 19s expensive absolutely but compare them to some speakers that cost 2 to 3 times as much and they will blow them away. Another point to make is that while they might be light in the base which you can increase with a sub woffer but the most important thing is the separation between vocals and the instrumentals. Listen to a song like Dirty Work by Steely Dan or anything by Candace Springs. I disagree the most important part of your system is your speakers. I have the 19s a Hegel 300 amp and some transparent 5 speaker cables. And it blows the doors of most everything out there at 2/3 times the cost. But rule number one is SPEND the MOST money on your speakers and your cables that’s what you hear.
I'm not convinced they'd result in audible or measurable differences. Only thing I may do is add some additional sound absorbing materials to the boxes, but again, I can't say I hear any cabinet effects to complain about either. I think any tweaks to the 19s are tweaks for sake of tweaks vs what will result in any audible improvements.
11 is more musical, more warm. 19 is more studio, more detail, more neutral. I bought the c1 mk2 because has more soundstage and deeper bass. If you like the 11 than try c1 mk2, c1 signature or c1 platinum.

Would anyone please know how either the 11s or especially the 19s or 20s would compare to the Harbeth P3SER? All of these seem to be highly reviewed, and inspired by the same UK culture and traditions for audio. My understanding is that the 19s and 20s have the proprietary mid/bass driver? Which might make them significantly better than both the Harbeths and the 11s?
I don't have an experience with the Harbeth, so at that point it comes down to auditioning speakers in person to see what you prefer. My understanding is Harbeth tends to be a warmer more laid back sound, which some like.

You can't hear for yourself over YT. Makes no sense to me why people play samples of music as far as speaker reviews are concerned. Just talking is the only aspect that makes any sense in such a review, unless you're also posting objective measurements and I don't own the equipment for that.
@@willbrink I do not agree at all. It's very easy to hear the quality of a loudspeaker over RUclips. Specially when the listener have a lot of experience and design loudspeakers by them selves. The only channel I really enjoy is Jay's audio labs. Very good...
@@flex-cx9bi Note the two reviewers I recommended who did review of the 11s and the 19s separately play no music in their reviews. Why? It's a complete waste of time as far as I'm concerned. I'd never judge the sound of a speaker, good bad, via a YT vid as it has no legit reflection of how that speaker sounds, unless perhaps one used expensive mics and recording gear, used lossless format, and the listener (you) did so over high quality headphones, and even then, it's not accurate and a waste of time. You will hear no differences between those speakers over some YT vid.
@@flex-cx9bi I've listened to a lot of speakers both professionally designed and amateur efforts. I've designed three for my own pleasure, eq'd, tweaked and adjusted to my room etc etc etc. On my old channel, I've even posted, with the help of a techy cousin', an attempt at capturing the in room sound. In the end, he mic'ed each speaker from distances that did not correspond to the listening position to get closest to the in-room sound and even then... I can say for myself, that no, you can't hear over YT. The room just has too much effect plus the mic and recording equipment and method add a lot. Just the mic placement is already a decision, on top, the mic response is not the same as ear perception in the room. The YT compression adds its own distractions. At the level of accuracy in speakers like these, best to listen live in the room you're considering them in. Try it. Move your positioning around your room and hear. IMO, if it's over YT, it has to be mic'ed in an anechoic chamber to hear the actual differences of the speakers rather than each speakers interaction with the room.

Thank you, at last someone is willing to actually do a proper comparison!
Thanx! I try to add practical advice as to choices made where possible.
Very helpful - thanks for sharing your observations and context.
Glad you found it helpful. I also did a one year follow up with the 19s on this channel if interested.
@@willbrink Thanks!
Insightful comparison but SCM11 with sub is it around same price as ATC SCM19? If so would AT SCM19 be a better choice ?
I have the SCM19 v2. I think you still need a sub. If you are on a budget, get the SCM11 v2 and a SVS SB1000 or so and you have great value.
Thanks for your reply and thank you for introducing some new music/artists such as Natalie Merchant.
Here’s my responses to a few:
“…difference in all areas but a lot of difference in every area and particularly the area covered by that mid-bass driver.”
There was an enough of a difference I kept the 19s, but not 2X the cost worth of difference, hence the discussion of diminishing returns. I kept the 19s, but per vid, if I only had 4k to spend, I tell people to go with the 11s and a good sub all day.
“ One thing about the 19's is that because of their, I think 84 dBw efficiency they need some muscle powering them.”
I mentioned that too, yet I’m beyond impressed how good they sound an lower listening volumes. I ended up bi amping them using my 5 channel amp, and just added an Anthem STR integrated which has gobs of power and sounds great with the 19s. Review of the Anthem is in the works…
“One thing and an important area of sound you missed is dynamics and if you compare ATC to almost anybody else you will realize just how effortless they sound. It's like they never run out of steam.”
I did cover that and mention no matter how hard I drove them, they never started to compress, no doubt due to how overbuilt and well engineered they are.
“I think that the 19v2's use of that incredible mid-bass driver that is used in some their best speakers qualifies them as the best bargain in their lineup. That incredible dynamic ranges clarity coupled to the soundstage they produce.”
Even the most expensive speaker they make is still a bargain by high end audio standards as the SCM line even more so.
You know when I was about to leave youtube another review by this British author was reviewing the ATC 19'. So I thought that I would chime in on that. Then I thought about it more and rather than recite it again, I changed my thoughts about the subject a bit . If interested ( I probably wouldn't but you never know) you can read my two cents on the Brits site. ruclips.net/video/qiUlJg-q5YM/видео.html
Stay safe stay healthy in these trying days.
Had mine for six years and they get better with age
@@willbrink Well, I am actually going to return the 19s. I can tell why they use this driver in their pro monitors. The driver is clearly higher resolution and has better separation, but it didn't really come alive until higher volumes, and at that point my ears and head were hurting. I think the driver is just producing too much sound pressure for my area. I've had this problem with sealed subs as well. While I do like the sealed sound, ported speakers seem to be better on my ears. For some reason, the 11 doesn't have the same effect that the 19 had.
Great vid... I'm thinking of buying the 11s
Have you listened to them?
Didn't hear them but got a very good deal for the SCM19 v2 and i'm really happy, the best speakers i haver had to be honeyst. Did you get them?

Thanx, glad you enjoyed it. I have approx 300 vids here, these are the first that are audio related. ;)
I blame his review of the 19s for "forcing" me to listen to them. :)
Good review ! Thank you
Awesome video, Will.

See my follow up vid on the 19 where I talk about that: lower volume one of their strongest points.
I covered that in the vid
2) do you know if the more robust drivers in the 19 mean it will have greater lifespan?

@@willbrink yes..now I am thinking so
But...should try in my space with all the rest😊👍
Are the 19s expensive absolutely but compare them to some speakers that cost 2 to 3 times as much and they will blow them away. Another point to make is that while they might be light in the base which you can increase with a sub woffer but the most important thing is the separation between vocals and the instrumentals. Listen to a song like Dirty Work by Steely Dan or anything by Candace Springs. I disagree the most important part of your system is your speakers. I have the 19s a Hegel
300 amp and some transparent 5 speaker cables. And it blows the doors of most everything out there at 2/3 times the cost. But rule number one is SPEND the MOST money on your speakers and your cables that’s what you hear.
Would you be the kind of guy to do the GR Reaserch upgrade on your ATC 11 and 19? Would love a video on that.
11 is more musical,more warm.

Without sound demonstration, is a big mistake.
Sound demo on a vid has not bearing on what the system sounds like and is generally a waste of time.
@@willbrink It depends on the system we have connected to the receiving computer, the quality of the microphone for recording, its positioning and the receiver's ear.
Managed to listen for 10 seconds. Please play some samples so we can hear by ourself. Just talking is meaningless. It needs to be complemented by samples of music.
They won’t even sound the same between a dealer and home demo,so how are you gonna judge by a lo-fi RUclips video. Ridiculous.
