    I really like your format. Much better in terms of presenting the specifics of one speaker as compared to another than I find in most other videos. Even though this is a review of the SCM 19 it can obviously be a real value for someone considering the Impact Monitor or either of the other two models (the KEF and the SCM 11).
    Also I appreciate that you mention musical Textures and Fullness. These are a very important characteristics that can really elevate speaker quality when it's achieved accurately and with detail.

    Great, unpretentious and witty review! I have had ATC SCM 11 v2's for 6 years now and this year I got a Rel T7i to go along with it. I use a Hegel H190 to power it. To my ears this system sounds beyond great in my medium-sized room and I absolutely adore the sonic signature (as well as the classic design) of ATC speakers.
    I sometimes wonder whether I'd preferred the SCM 19's in this room but I think there is also a point in modesty and taking time to make incremental progress in refining my hifi system, step by step. :-)

      I adore the SCM11s as well and do regret selling it. I also had the 19s, and while they do go a little bit deeper, the sound is mostly the same (which is great) but I just feel the extra cost to get a few lower notes isn't well spent. I do love ATCs and hopefully, I'd have the opportunity to end up with the SCM50s one day.

      I have one of the best Rel subwoofers. To tell you the truth, you are better off with no subwoofer. All subwoofers have flabby bass, not much difference in subwoofers. Two subwoofers barely make a difference. Just put your speakers in a smaller room. If you want good bass, put your speakers 4 inches away from a heavily stucchoed block wall that acts as a diffusor to split the soundwaves to not cause echoes that distorts the room. Or a room with a brick wall. Other diffusors & sound absorption materials are worthless. Enjoy the mids as a piano. Piano players rarely use to low notes, so you dont lose much. Subwoofers are only good for big speakers that dont have any sound volume.

    I had the ATC SCM7 in my system for the last couple of days. I returned them. I can say without exaggeration that they were the biggest letdown I ever had at my home. No bass whatsoever, just some knocking aroung 80-90Hz, midrange was 'meh' and the highs were nothing like everyone claims it to be. Sure, it was clear but it was average at best. I wanted something new instead of my KEF LS50 Meta, but tbh the Metas were leagues ahead in every single regard. More bass, more punch, more midrange beef, better soundtage, you name it.

    Does anyone know the difference between the SCM11 vs SCM12 Pro, SCM19 vs SCM20 Pro? I read that the Pro counterpart uses pretty much the same drivers, but there are slight enclosure differences and the Pros can be put on their sides. The warranties are both 6 years, but the Pro seems cheaper. Just wondering what other differences, if anyone knows.

    I disagree about the comparison between 11 vs 19. I had the 11's for two years then moved on to 19's. By comparison 19's have much more bass than the 11's not just "little bit" as you describe. Again the mid range is little more refined on the 19's by comparison but both are in the excellent range. If you are not getting much more bass with 19's then your amplifier is the culprit.

    • @TheAudiofool
      @TheAudiofool  3 года назад +4

      Thanks for watching then. Agree to disagree then. I had them both at the same time and running with multiple amps, and I stand by my view that there's a bit more bass in the 19s, but still a long ways away from sp40, Tekton, R3, and pretty much most of it's price class competitors. Also, the 11s are actually slightly cleaner in the midrange though slightly less rich so I won't categorize that as more refined, and I even miss it sometimes whenever I try out the scm19s with amps with higher distortion.

    I disagree the 19s are TWICE as good as the 11s I have owned both. I think there is too much an emphasis on BASS in this review. I think the separation between the vocals on the 19s and the instrumentals can’t be beat for speakers costing 4 times as much.

    • @TheAudiofool
      @TheAudiofool  3 года назад +4

      Thank you for watching. I'm glad you love the SCM19s that much and they do deserve more attention.
      While I think that I may have given the SCM11 a slight advantage in the comparison by using the not so clean sounding Rega Elicit, I don't think that the SCM19 is twice as good as the SCM11. I know you are exaggerating though, but I can honestly forego the SCM19 and just live with an SCM11 just for the mids as they are very similar and I actually find the 19s a bit too rich in some amplifiers. I have long sold the SCM11s to further this addiction and kept the 19s as I will probably lose more money selling the 19s, but I do have regrets and still think of getting a new set of 11s.
      I dont think I give too much emphasis on bass as the Tektons clearly have the advantage there but get trounced in the highs and mids. It is a weakness though as you can get the R3 or Special 40 or Tektons that can do 40hz easily at the same price or less. Of course, these don't have the magic mids the ATCs have though but not all people will value mids as much as we do... Some go for bass.

    • @robertbyington7715
      @robertbyington7715 3 года назад

      All I’m saying is they might not be exactly twice as good but for the money and the value they are better than some speakers that cost 3 times as much. I also own the Hegel 390 amp and I will say the same thing for that amp based on price and build quality; For approximately 10K I would put this combo up against just a out anything but say Prima Luna or PS Audio

    You can't expect more bass when ATC doesn't use a port like the other speakers do that you are comparing to. It's the quality of bass and not quantity of bass you should be comparing.

    • @TheAudiofool
      @TheAudiofool  3 года назад +1

      If it costs that much and competitors can, you should. While I appreciate the more natural bass decay of the 19s compared to the tighter Dyne Special 40s, it's not a whole lot of difference and I bet a lot of people would prefer the Dynes. That said, I'd still choose the 19s over the S40 but not because of the bass.

    • @RennieAsh

      The frequency response measured shows that the ATC could do with a bass boost, though the lower level relative to the mids (slight bump) and treble means that things sound clean. My older SCM 11 sound very nice, but there is a little bit of a boxy/cuppy sound I notice. And they work better in a smaller room imo, however if you like the more intimate performance then they don't sound completely lacking either.
