Keep in mind to be careful guys. I have done this, and overlubing the switches can cause a chatter and will require you to take out the switch and clean them off to fix it. So not a big deal for a hotswap keyboard, but quite the nuisance if you need to solder.

hey shiba! i just pen lubed my RK61, and it sounds AMAZING!!! i put foam in it so it sounds thocky :D thank you for this tutorial! you need more subs dude
Hey I have a question, I recently bought the pen lube, is it normal that it smells weird? I don’t wanna use it on my keyboard if has something bad or anything. It smells like rotten eggs.
To be honest in terms of sound considering they are linear they all sound pretty similar as the main reason for lubing would be to eliminate key switch friction aka scratch
i did that on my Varmilo Mx Brown and MX red Keyboards and work Great , BUT i only lube the left and right side of the switches . Tried lube all 4 sides and something felt wrong dumb .
good video but i do have 2 questions how many super lube pens would it take to lube a 60% keyboard and is it possible to lube stabilizers with this method
just as thegreatsawyer said, tactile switches have the distinct bump feedback that linear switches lack. that's why you only lube two sides instead of all sides as to not affect the bump feel.
Over-lubed? I tried this and now my keys seems slow and heavy to type on. This method seems to make it very easy to what do what many would consider to be over-lubed :/
Tried this for my soldered on RK71 with brown switch, works like a charm. However, I chose to lube all 4 sides for my tactile switch to maximise its smoothness.
@@notleon6901 It definitely became less scratchy. But I couldn't really notice any other specific changes in thocc/pitch because I simultaneously did the case foam+tape mod, so I'm not sure what changes in sound are specifically attributed to the pen lube.
@@notleon6901 I also used the Super Lube and a interdental brush to lube my stabs (copied from :3ildcat's video on spray lubing the RK61), which became slightly less rattly.
A year, later, how does the mod feel? 🙈 Soldered brown outemus RK61 user (Want to lube my switches but the hassle of solder word is really making me lazy/reluctant)
if i use the lube that you used with this same method on browns, will the lube somehow spread to the legs and obliterate the tactility? if it does spread to the legs over time, is it possible to use a lube similar to 205g0 (which, ofc, is thicker and thus won't spread as easily) with this method? thanks in advance! :-D
the liquid-y superlube that he used? that's actually less thick than what you'd want. ideally, you should use krytox 205g0 or even any similar generic silicon lubricant because the superlube used in the video won't provide as much smoothness and won't dampen as much sound, unlike something thicker such as krytox 205g0 or silicon lube.
Thanks for the tip. If i may, please reduce the swap between the key view and your face view. It's fatiguing. Keep up the good work, i do enjoy your chill voice.
if you overlube then that may cause some switches to stop responding, but you could just clean out the lube from the switches. just don't apply too much lube (i feel like, if you're using the superlube in this video, 1-2 drops would be more than enough. but, even better, just exactly follow the steps in the video) and you'll be safe. :)
if you mean "can i do this with krytox instead?", i'm sure you can. in fact, it'll probably feel even better because krytox 205 will last longer and will stay in the same place as where you applied it on. krytox 205 is also thicker, which will definitely help the switches feel even more buttery and will help the switches sound even quieter. but if you're talking about the krytox 105, it'll basically be the same thing as the superlube in the video.
only spray-lubing has the possibility of damaging your PCB. you're completely safe with this pen-lube method, BUT DON'T OVERLUBE as overlubing can also damage your PCB.
@@shibatek4953 Would this work ? Look it up on amazon "Super Lube 51004 Synthetic Oil with PTFE, High Viscosity, 4 oz Bottle,Translucent white" This should deffo be enough for 2 keyboard no ?
The size is definitely more than enough for 2 keebs, but as for the product itself I can't say for sure since I haven't used that one myself. Uses the same type of lube though so maybe?
honestly after doing this, keyboard feels like shit. I left few keys unlubed (because you didnt mention that lube you recomended is not enough for one 60% keyboard) and the lubed keys just feel heavy, no difference in scratching
why would you think adding something to dampen the sound is going to have any affect on lubicrated parts? Lube is for movement, dampening is for sound.
Imo that pen is WAY to expensive for what you get oil wise. I recommend buying the little 7oz bottle of even fuck it a pint/quart size if you're using enough. Then just buy a squeeze buttle with a blunt tip needle attachment. Much better control, much better value

I suppose you can lube the whole keeb only using half of the pen if you use it wisely.
Hey shiba tek why should I only lube 2 sides of a tactile switch? also does this method remove the metal pinging sound?
lubing in general removes ping, so I assume. and lubing just the sides/not the legs&leaf allows the tactility to not be muted/nearly removed.
just as thegreatsawyer said, tactile switches have the distinct bump feedback that linear switches lack. that's why you only lube two sides instead of all sides as to not affect the bump feel.
