I bought some blackberries in a big pot from Lowe's a few years ago. I set the pot out where I was going to plant it, but never got around to putting it in the ground. When I went to mow, I moved the pot and noticed that some of the roots were going into the ground. I have since kept moving the pot down the row and now have a nice row of blackberries as well as the original pot I started with.
I had 4000 blackberry plants of Ponca and another 2 varieties called Caddo and Von on Dec of the last year 2020 . I got em from Florida state shipped to me. Tested and certified tissue cutler Very healthy. They are Already planted ,I can’t Waite to taste them . Very excited

I also live about 45 minutes from Mineola. I contacted Bob Wells Nursery and they don't have the Ponca variety at this time. I guess I missed out this year. Oh well, I'll try again in December or January.
The best blackberries are growing wild in deciduous forests. Had some in New Hampshire a few years ago that were 100% sweet with zero tartness. I could hardly believe it. I had to run home before the Sasquatch confronted me.
I used to say the same until I started growing “tame” berries. There is no comparison. The size and flavor of my tame berries are better than any wild berry I ever ate. And i spent a great deal of my youth eating wild blackberries! 😁
I just planted 18 bare root Poncas. With a good straw mulch, how often do I need to water these things at the beginning? I’m running drip irrigation. Keep the great content coming!
If you're in sandy soil you can water more often.. it will drain well. If you're in clay (like me) maybe 2 times a week. BUT... it depends on climate. In TX when it's hot 2 or 3 times a week (for an hour or so) is plenty, but might be too much in the wet spring or fall. Young blackberry plants don't need to dry out, but they don't need to drown either. Not sure that helped or not, but just use common sense :)
Got some in the mail for the patch at the new house. It's gonna be a line up of Primeark freedoms "still my favorite" Primeark traveler and a row of Ponca
Not sure, but they stay in those containers a long time at the nursery, right? I wouldn't let them stay there for the summer unless I really take care to make sure they're watered.
Great Video. I just purchased four plants for myself. I tried the TP2 code but I don't know if it took it. So I will now have four of the PrimeArk Freedom (Which are doing fantastic) and soon I will have four of these Ponca's. Thank You so much for what you do. I look forward to your updates.

TP2, Love all of your videos!!! I check you out all the time. I follow Mr. Clark of the Arkansas Extension closely. I think they are the best! I, also was curios about the Poncas and had to have some! purchased 5 from one of the well known online nurseries. they were plugs and are just beginning to grow. I can't wait to taste them! when Mr. Clark gets that excited about a variety, it has to be special. I am in Florida, zone 10b. I think I was sold when he stated on his video that customers ask for the Poncas by name at the green markets, I knew they would be a winner. Love the truck. Many blessings to you and let's grow together.
Thanks for the info., but I'll stick with the tart varieties nature intended. Or strawberries if I need sweet berries. That's one fine looking pickup by the way. Should last you close to 500,000 miles or more.
I really don’t know. I can’t sell them because they are patented. Check your local nursery and see if they have some. Bare root should not be too expensive… Maybe five dollars each. But I have not bought any for a long time. They could be much higher than that now.
Ha. I was just at Bob Wells a few days ago. Picked up five new fruit trees and a couple Raspberry. Question, how do you stop Possums from eating your fruit?
I don't seem to have a problem with possums eating blackberries. I'm sure they DO... but maybe I just have so many that I don't see it. The old adage is to plant for yourself, and some for the critters :( A hot wire might work, though. Here's what I do around my chicken pen: ruclips.net/video/Q40qzheTlBQ/видео.html
So, I've emailed Bob Wells Nursery but haven't heard back. Should I keep these new plants inside near a window so they can get sun until the risk of frost is reduced here in DFW?
@@RESlusher In my experience, frost won't hurt them. Remember... BW Nursery has them all laid out in the yard. Nursery's (at least around here) don't protect their plants in the winter unless they are tropical. Up north it might be different. So... if it were me... I would put them outside. Hey Texas prepper, Great vid. Quick question. With this variety do I need to buy new seeds every year to grow more, or will the seeds produce fruiting bushes?
No... Blackberries reproduce themselves from the ROOTS. The roots will send up new shoots (canes) every year. No "seeding" whatsoever. That's what's so great about them :)
I wish I could tell you for sure I read everything I could find on them and nothing said they were Primocanes. So, I don't think they are. They DO have a characteristic that is interesting...
