Alec Soth‘s first major publication “Sleeping by the Mississippi” counts as one of the most important series of contemporary photography. In occasion of the exhibition “Two Rivers. Joachim Brohm / Alec Soth”, curator and lmmaker Ralph Goertz met the artist at his studio in St. Paul and was allowed to accompany him while he was working with his 8x10 camera.
At his studio Soth presented his famous series like Songbook and Niagara. He talked about his work, his artistic approach and how he re ects the media itself. A very rare inside view!

Alec Soths erste große Publikation "Sleeping by the Mississippi" zählt zu den wichtigsten Serien der zeitgenössischen Fotografie. Anlässlich der Ausstellung „Zwei Flüsse. Joachim Brohm / Alec Soth“ reiste der Kurator und Filmemacher Ralph Goertz nach Minneapolis. Dort traf er den Künstler in seinem Atelier in St. Paul und durfte ihn beim Shooting mit seiner 8x10-Kamera begleiten.
In seinem Atelier zeigte ihm Soth seine berühmten Serien wie Songbook und Niagara. Soth sprach mit ihm über seine Arbeit, seine künstlerische Herangehensweise und wie er das Medien selbst in seinen Arbeiten reflektiert. Ein sehr seltenes filmisches Dokument!
