Drink every time you hear me say ‘ya boy’ throughout this video 😂🍻
I’m already sloshed 🫨
Hey, loved the video! What site do you use for the board? Because I would actually like to have that!❤ thanks if you answer! Loved the video , keep it up❤
What’s with the colwill bias!
@@Countryballs24992 From what I've heard on his podcast, it's technology he's built & while it's not publicly available right now, he's working on it and it will be at some point
@@froodlenoodle ok thanks for responding. Anyways have a great week! ❤️ 🍀 😊
I love how positive Jim is about England/Southgate. You can tell he genuinely enjoys international football unlike most creators/people. Love it
It's not that people don't enjoy international football, it's that too many fixtures especially international football increases the chances or injuries and actually injures a lot of players. It can ruin a season and can result in no trophies won domestically.
@@laxmandutt110999% of clubs don’t stand a chance of winning a domestic trophy anyway. International football is clear when it comes to competitiveness in one off games
it's easy to enjoy international football when your club team is crap
@@bamalam5762yeah I was gonna say it’s the only thing he has to look forward to as a fan of something 😅
As a football fan who started life as a rugby fan, it makes me mad at the amount of hate international football gets.
Well we're never gonna to do this cuz we got Gareth ain't we?
☠️
He did get us to the final last time out show some respect
@@nffclaceyagainst pretty weak opposition, and still made a hash of it before being outwitted in the final playing scared football
Yes Germany and Croatia are weak right? Genius analysis @@QuotidianStupidity
@@QuotidianStupidity I don't think he's tacticaly the best but I've never seen England play as well as they are now and you can say we've got better players then the past but that's not true we've got a good team and Garath Southgate gets the best out of them
I love Mainoo, but there's no chance anyone is dropping Foden just to get him in the team.
The 3-2-4-1 system (where Trent comes into that midfield 2 when we're in posession) makes the most sense if we want to be brave and make full use of our attacking talent, without trying anything silly.
Otherwise, it's a 4-3-3 if we want to be cautious.
tbh Mainoo could lose out on a spot for a while (or even the whole career). I mean as a Liverpool fan it was so sad to see what he was doing yesterday and i must admit he is brilliant. Best at MUTD i think, but at the moment Bellingham, Foden and Rice seem so out of everyones league. Foden could play winger but you have brilliant Saka there too. If Trent becomes a full time midfielder then there is even more chance of Mainoo not playing for a while.
@@the_playyer506 Which is fine for now because he's only 18. He'll have his chances as a rotation player, and there's no doubt he'll continue with the U-21s in the meantime.
When Henderson finally bows out, you'd think that Mainoo will likely be on the squadsheet more often.
We're a bit screwed on the striker front when Kane ends up retiring (and Watkins is already 28), so maybe Bellingham will be pushed upfield and leave a deeper midfield role for Mainoo (not to mention Curtis Jones) to fill. Time will tell!
@@the_playyer506 Saying he will miss out for his entire career is a bit hyperbolic, he'll get into the team in the next two years. The guy is 18 and already playing like he has 500 games under his belt. Foden can play out wide left and Trent can play at RB as Walker and Trippier are nearing retirement allowing a midfield of Rice, Mainoo and Bellingham.
@@the_playyer506 id play a midfield of rice jude and mainoo over one with foden in it tbh. I dont think his best position is as a 10 and hes too lightweight to be an 8. I think his only role is on the LW and he can fight Grealish and Rashford for playing time.
Those are all the same by the way, 433 can changed to 3241 by using a mid option to maintain wide for a moment then later they have the tax to occupy the box system, its are all the bloody same with england and even though when it was coming from the past years, Mainoo has a chance there, so Foden could just stay on the wing for while then he would gather a box teamwise other midfielders, this is better than cramming Trent in to the starting xi, he wouldnt impact effectively like Mainoo would
Feel that second option could be fun with Foden on the left, and Bellingham in for Watkins, but more of a 4-4-1-1 with fluency between the movement of Bellingham and Kane - e.g. Kane drops deep, Bellingham runs behind
American here, You've made me love the English national team through your passion and I've been rooting for them since Euro 2020, especially with my Arsenal boys on that team. Love it Jim
Gareth is almost as footy retar tar as Greg. Teams with shit coaches never perform. Ever.
As a Liverpool I love seeing Jones in one of your teams. Ofc he will never play this euros, but I love how you gave him his flowers because he was phenomenal for us before his injury
he would be there above kobbie i fit. hes that step ahead of him in his development and a very good player.
Cramming Colwill into each formation when he has been painfully mid all season is like👀👀
yeah, I think he has promise, but he's not there yet.
even braithwaite is better. colhill literally cant defend
Hes defiantly biased towards him for putting im in whenever possible, hasn't been good enough to justify it
Colwill has actually been great at center back , hes mid when he’s played at left back
He’s not been great at LB but every time he’s played LCB for Chelsea he’s been pretty immense. He’s just been out of position all year
There is no way you can leave foden out of any of these squads, he's a MUST START. period.
I am so freaking excited for this euros. Such a packed team its fantastic.
You just CAN’T leave Foden out of the starting 11
you can't just cram him anywhere either...
i think the front four is certain tbh foden, bellingham, saka and kane maybe rashford ahead of foden for some games like rotation but you never know
You can if you are want to bench our most talented player. Southgate was easing foden into international football avoiding early injuries now he will play every key fixture
@@Ash-ve8hh given his talent and versatility across the frontline there is no "cramming"
@@Madracer1000facts man
In the first formation, I'd be worried about that left hand side defensively. Colwill having to cover a lot of space in transition and Rashford isn't going to track back. The good thing with having Rice central or left 8 is he can cover when Zinchenko comes infield like that
Or you could play grealish on the left instead of rashford, he would track back more
Just seeing the players we have just makes me smile, it’s mad that we can put a decent team together that work as well!
Hey, loved the video! What site do you use for the board? Because I would actually like to have that!❤ thanks if you answer! Loved the video , keep it up❤
I think the first one is the best personally but with branthwaite instead of colewill
Hi! very interesting ideas and good video, congratulations. I would like to know what program you use for the tactical board and the graphics above the images etc., Thank you!
Surely Rashford shouldn't be picked unless his form picks up? Watkins can play LW and deserves the starting place more than him.
this rashford form thing is getting funny now the guys starting to do his stuff now wait till may and see
I agree, but I wouldn't put Watkins at lw, maybe Antony Gordon would be a better idea tho
Hes out for like 6 months tho@@lfcyeezus
he plays well for England, having recently (in international fixture terms) scored against Italy. But if Gordon does well in the next couple of friendlies I can see him losing his place.
As a villa fan, I thoroughly disagree with the Watkins at LW shout. The reason why he’s been playing so well and getting so many G+A is because he’s been told to stay central and look for the through balls and crosses etc.
Joe Gomez not being in any of your systems is strange. He’s shown he can play LB/RB and even invert.
Love this type of video! 👍🏻
I’m surprised at how few of these had Grealish in. Appreciate he’s injured at the moment but when fit he’s definitely our best option on the left
He has been shit when he has been fit this season as well, Pep said as much recently.
@@alexfielding7191 he’s been better than Rashford
He became very predictable I thought, defenders have learnt to just steer him inside and he plays sideways.
Great video! Very interesting setups.
I’d like us to play a 3-2-5 like Pep/City
GK. Pickford
RCB. Walker
CB. Stones
LCB. Shaw/Colwill
RDM. Trent
LDM. Rice
RAM. Bellingham
LAM. Maddison
RW. Saka
LW. Foden
ST. Kane
Would be nice, Southgate ain't smart enough to do that tho 😂. Idk if it works in international football as well
Should there be someone quick who’s used to making runs in behind while Kane drops deep?
@@lfcyeezus if pep was england manager he could have this squad playing his nice silky football pretty quickly. Southgate doesn't have the depth of coaching understanding for it though and neither do our england backroom staff. They'd need to leave with southgate. The FA coaches this same boring style of play into the youth system too.
Awful team
You need an innovative elite coach to do that, not a League 2 quality defensive coach like we have....
He is so desperate to play Phillips and Henderson with Rashford up front and Maguire in defence. We have no chance with Southgate.
This is great James but where will Henderson play?
Thanks for getting the Gareth thing out the way. It's so boring seeing people saying awful stuff about Southgate for absolutely no reason. It's like England fans think that we should be walking through every team we play with like 7 attackers. He's done great things for England and has build a fantastic foundation for the future, regardless of trophies.
makes me laugh people make out we have brazil’s trophy cabinet and it all went to shit when southgate came in 🤣 “if only we had a world class manager” as if the two best managers england had on paper for their eras (capello and revie) weren’t disasters 😂
There are plenty of reasons to criticise Southgate, he picks his mates instead of players that actually deserve a call up and fumbled his way into a semi and a final because of easy runs and the state of international teams being the worst in decades. Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Brazil are a shadow of their former selves and he still couldn't win anything.
yeah the Southgate hate from some smacks of the same arrogance that England fans had throughout the 00s that we should be winning every tournament with a golden generation of players. Simply put, there's only a trophy to win every 2 years and England are AMONG the best but not necessarily the best team, still. Gareth has overachieved compared to the managers of the 00s, Sven and Capello. No trophy to show for it? He's literally managed at only three tournaments.
@@alexfielding7191 He picks the players who will work for the England team he’s setting up. Most fans seem to want to only pick on form, and if that’s the case, then we’ll have a new line up every game. Southgate gets like 6 weeks a year with players. In that time, he has to get everyone playing as a team. He can’t achieve it if he’s got like 10 new players every 2 week window lol
@@matthewbrears2129 Bullshit, he has picked players that weren't even match fit.
finally someone’s talking about jones, it’s a shame he’s injured cus i think we would’ve started him in these couple games to see how he does. The best compliment is that he doesn’t look out of place in this liverpool team, isn’t the best player but u can’t have a team of stars
As a Villa fan, my concern with “Emery team” is I’m not sure I’d trust Maguire in our high line. And no, I’m not gonna suggest Konsa. As good as he is, he’d be playing either Stones or Walker‘s position and he isn’t better than either. I’d suggest Lewis Dunk as the LCB in that system
Oh you might just have hit a nail. This squad has a huge flaw. No matter what you do it has a leaky defense
Never clicked quicker
Yep
Continue with these type of vids
Set up Jim 👌🔥
My starting XI and tactics: 4231
GK - Jordan Pickford
RB - Kyle Walker
CB - John Stones
CB - Levi Colwill
LB - Luke Shaw
CM - Declan Rice
CM - Trent Alexander-Arnold
RW - Bukayo Saka
CAM - Jude Bellingham
LW - Phil Foden
ST - Harry Kane
Its defensively sound enough out of possession with Rice sitting as an anchor, then create a back 5 where Trent can drop in at RB and Walker can tuck in as a 3rd CB and use that pace to mitigate attacking threat and 3 hard working attacking players who can support and press.
When we win possession back Rice and the 2 wing backs can be the distributors, knowing you've got two wide players and Bellingham/Kane in front of them.
Going forwards Trent sits in midfield as an IWB/Deep lying playmaker almost and then you still have that City style back 3 shape with Walker and the 2 CBs, that allows the LB to push up to a LW position giving Foden licence to drop into the 10 and Bellingham to get forward as a 2nd striker. Saka stays wide right and Rice can be a box to box getting forward and supporting. Means we have enough defensively to not have our weak CBs exploited but also have enough attackers on the pitch to create overloads and do what we do best in attack.
Its almost a 523 defensively and a 3241 offensively.
Great video
It seems like Southgate just has to decide whether he wants Bellingham or Foden as the focal point of the team. If it's Bellingham, there's no room for Foden. If it's Foden, you sacrifice what arguably the best player in the world right now is best at. I get a feeling he'll go with Bellingham... and I'd probably do the same
Love this video. Possible adjustment to system 4: you could get the benefit of both Stones and Alexander-Arnold stepping into midfield without having to rely on Luke Shaw by having Alexander-Arnold invert from LB like you said on system 1 and having Stones play right back and pinch in.
The first tactic won't work because Rashford isn't known for getting back and defending, with Trent going midfield, it leaves a massive gap on the right hand side to be exploited.
With all the offensive options available, rashford shouldn’t come close to making this team.
i was thinking this but then you have grealish, who is kind of notorious for not scoring as much as people want him to but its because he does things like this. hes physical, you cant take the ball off of him, he tracks back a lot of the time, he can hold width and put in a cross, he can take his man on one on one and beat him, hold the ball and put a runner in behind, cut inside and shoot or find a runner, win a foul anywhere on the pitch, and importantly just keep the ball. all of this combining with players like bellingham, foden, and trent would work wonders. i think the first is the best if you put grealish in for rashford. its also not like he just doesnt score, hes obviously capable of bagging a goal, but with players like Foden, Bellingham, Kane, and Saka all in tremendous form you dont really need him to score. just need someone to do the dirty work for them and grealish will do just that, like he does for pep.
4-4-2
GK: Pickford #1
RB: Walker #2
RCB: White #5
LCB: Stones #6
LB: Shaw #3
RM: Alexander-Arnold #7
RCM: Rice #4
LCM: Bellingham #8
LM: Saka #11
SS: Kane #10 C
ST: Watkins #9
England’s tactics rooms always had the following on the wall:
‘442, what else can we do?’
Now it’s:
‘4231. It certainly won’t be any fun.’
Foden HAS to start for England. He is arguably the most in form English player, along with Bellingham and Kane.
Watched a video of yours on Chelsea and now this. I’ve subbed, rate the football iq mate
Would make a few changes here:
Foden Kane Saka
Gallagher/
Bellingham Palmer
Rice
Chilwell/
Colwill Stones Walker Trent
Pope(if fit)/
Pickford
Palmer/ Gallagher and Bellingham as the high interiors. Gallagher as a box to box to give Bellingham a bit more freedom in attack or Palmer instead making Bellingham play as more of a box to box role. Colwill at LB to form a back 3 in build up while overlapping occasionally to give Foden license to join the interiors and Chilwell for more of an offensive option supporting Foden with overlaps or underlaps. And of course Trent inverting to join Rice in deeper midfield areas and rotating with the likes of Palmer and Saka (positional play) as they’re all comfortable in each others roles. Edit: Forgot to mention Madison in that Palmer/ Gallagher position. Similar case to Palmer tactically.
I like it but I don’t think Southgate would ever play this way. If we were to adapt it to his style, you’d take out Walker for Maguire and play Trent in his more traditional position with Gallagher playing deeper to allow Bellingham more freedom.
Why on earth would you want pope in over Pickford? Pickford is twice the keeper pope is
Gallagher and pope don't get into a starting England team...no chance
I’d rather put foden in that right half space ahead of palmer and put Sterling on the left who always performs for England and we don’t have a player like him in the team
@@fader1912 but sterling has been really crap this season
you cant just say someone is always good for the national team and ignore their league form when they are playing this bad
For the Bellingham at LMsystem, I feel like starting positions and familiarity matters for players. Not saying Jude can’t do a job at LM but the fact Vini Jr is a threat on that left flank makes the other team overload their players there OOP so he is able to drag players out and play that ball. It’s the same with Odegaard and Saka at Arsenal. Saka offers so much of a threat at RW that he pulls 2-3 players every game so Martin can help bait players onto that side and pick passes in behind towards the far post.
Hi, can I ask what software you are using at @3:50 ? Thanks 🙏
You still refuse to believe Gomez is a member even in the bench
What's Gomez' best position then and who does he start over if he's so important?
He ain’t wrong
@@ProducerCai solid squad option. Can play right back, left back, centre back. Can even invert and also cross the ball
@@ProducerCai Left back. We have little competition there when Shaw is injured, whereas Gomez has stayed fit all season. He also did a banging job for Liverpool this season on that side of the pitch.
@@beefwittedgenius8275 realistically england are going to take 8 defenders to the euros. Dead certain ones (assuming everyones fit) are going to be maguire, stones, shaw and walker. Which leaves 4 more spots. Gomez is not a better rightback than trippier, trent, white or reece james. He also isnt a better leftback option that chilwell, mitchell and even colwill and branthwaite. And he isn't a better centreback option than konsa, tomori, branthwaite and others. Being an above average stop gap for liverpool isn't good enough to be in the england squad
Finally someone else who sees the Trent at LB vision. Wasn’t expecting that 😂
Option 1 could be lethal to the opposition especially because TAA is a counter pressing machine as well.
With the 4-4-2 option I'd prefer a diamond in midfield including Maddison as a 10 and leaving Saka out instead. The midfield diamond could then look like this:
- Rice as deep-lying midfielder
- Bellingham and Foden in the wide midfield positions
- Maddison as a 10
foden and maddison in that midfield is a bit light for me. I'd drop Foden for Mainoo tbh
In this hypothetical world where Southgate isn't a frigid basic coach. I love Trent, maybe a bit too much😊. Trent on the left with Rashford in front who cant track back for toffee is not the one. Has to be right back or just start him midfield next to Rice, that allows Rice to get forward more. What Jorginho does for him at Arsenal. Do feel for Jones too, he would've had to have been in this sqaud for these friendlies, was our best midfielder for about a year before the injury.
If Trent plays he has start as RB. He's never played against big opposition starting as a midfielder. Rice, Bellingham, Curtis Jones/mainoo would be the best midfield
Give this man the England job
I've got fm on the laptop and pen paper in hands ✍️
I’ve been thinking about my England team and I think I’ve worked out what I’d do.
Pickford
Shaw
Maguire
Stones
Walker
Rice
Bellingham
Gordon (if fit)
Foden
Saka
Kane
4-2-3-1 becomes 3-2-5 in possession with shaw pushing up and walker inverting. RW holds the width with the LW making those inverted runs in behind. Alternatively you play Trent in the pivot then Bellingham at 10. There’s bloody options!
Feels like that would waste Bellingham. You want him as far forward as possible. Don't see Gordon as anything more than an impact sub either.
@@iTylerHimself disagree I think him at 10 is limiting. To me it just wastes all his ability deeper and in the midfield. I’d only play him there if you don’t have goal scorers. Real Madrid don’t have a striker so need Bellingham to do it. We don’t have that issue. We also don’t need creators we have elite creators. We do have problems deeper and to me his passing, ball carrying, defending and passing are all just as good as his attacking attributes. Personally think he’s an 8 by nature because he’s so good at EVERYTHING in midfield and not emphasising that wastes all that ability
To get Foden and Bellingham as 10s working around Kane, which I want to see happen too
When attacking
Kane
Bellingham Foden
Saka TAA
Rice Stones
Shaw Maguire Walker
Pickford
................................................
When defending
Kane
Saka Foden
Bellingham Rice TAA
Shaw Maguire Stones Walker
Pickford
Small sacrifice of Saka playing on the left instead of his favoured position, where he'll still do a great job at both ends of the pitch. Trent on the right of midfield putting in crosses for Kane. Also easy to change to something more familiar with these players if this isn't working. Just switch Saka to his favoured side, tuck Trent into a more central position and push Foden left.
Foden - Bellingham - Saka is the best trio imo. Build up in a 3 with chilwell/shaw bombing up the left flank and foden allowed to tuck
Really like option 1, it is a good system that gets everyone we need playing into the XI
What tactical pad are you using please?
With the second system play palmer he loves coming central and driving or a through ball or playing someone like walker to run onto the ball then jude goes central with foden in a false 9 role
If I were England manager. I’m playing
Starting
Pickford goal keeper
Gomez left back
Maguire centre back
Stones centre back
Trent right back
Rice defensive midfield
Bellingham left centre midfield
Palmer right centre midfield
Saka right wing
Kane centre forward
Foden left wing
In possession Trent comes inside and forms the box midfield/ double pivot next to rice, gomez shuffles across to form a 3 at the back and the 2 8s Bellingham and Cole palmer going into that 8.5 role that havertz, szobo etc play.
Out of possession it’s as above
Bench for this team is (you can name a 23 man squad for match day)
Ramsdale
Colwill
Timouri
Walker
Madisson
Bowen
Barkley
Gordon
Jones
Rashford
Mainoo
Watkins
(You can take 26 man to the tournament)
Shaw
Dunk
Toney
I would go for a 4-1-2-1-2
• Kane can drop deep
• Bellingham can move up front like an old Dele or move wide left
• Saka can move wide right
• Maddison & Foden can move wide as well
• Rice will be that Busquets type player
• The defence is very defensive but allows the creativity to happen without worrying about dropping much
Kane Saka
Bellingham
Maddison Rice Foden
Colwill Branthwaite Stones Walker
Pickford
Gotta be Foden-Kane-Saka up front. Shouldn't be a debate. Midfield is Jude-Rice-Someone. Can argue for a bunch for that third spot. Defense is Trent-Stones-Someone-Shaw. Pickford is shit but he's going to play so not worth discussing. Its that CB and the third midfielder that need the most attention IMO.
Who does someone play for 😅
Trent shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11
Stones plays in midfield these days
Defence Walker Gomez Colwill Shaw
Midfield Stones Rice Bellingham
Forwards Foden Kane Saka
@@mainaccount8293 stones has to play CB he's the only one we've got that's decent
@@mainaccount8293 gomez wont start. It will be Walker Stones Maguire Shaw. Rice Bellingham Foden/TAA/Mainoo i think. Rashford Kane Saka up top
I’m praying Southgate learns from 2 huge mistakes (Croatia/Italy) when you go 1-0 up it’s ok to keep attacking especially with this squad who is good enough to get another goal AND defend a lead. We should be going to the semi finals minimum. Take the hand break off and go for it (but a leopard never changes its spot)
which tactic board do you use throughout the video
The last would be my preferred option and the one I hope Southgate goes with.
I don’t see Curtis Jones getting one minute of game time with the team we have. But love the analysis of the different set ups and the optimism!
Great content as always James but all this personnel stuff means nothing if a decent system isn’t put in place, just going to look like 11 players
I like the first system best, as it seems very solid, but would consider Palmer, instead of Rashford.
Jim becomes Mike Bassett, never thought I'd see the day
Honestly I'd rather toney on the left than rashford. He has something to prove and I just hate how low energy rashford is in 90% of games. He's career recently has been surviving off of 2-3 worldies a season in games he usually loses anyway.
This is a complete nonsense lmao
@@ZainAli-cm4su it's really not. He plays to the level of a newly promoted player in most games and when he decides he's not in a good mood, you're lucky if he even runs. A painfully average player.
Toney on the left? What? Foden/Gordon would be much better winger options
@@arvin9425 in the England setup Foden is better down the middle in midfield and I'm sorry but Gordon isnt even half the player toney is.
@@mrwabbit9576 Toney is better than Gordon, but he's still not a winger. He's a CF and thats it. Play an actual winger on the left, whether it's foden, Gordon, rashford, grealish, sterling etc
Defensively the first formation is a disaster with TAA and Rashford on the left. Interesting though from the attacking perspective.
What app is this for creating the team ? 🥰
All we need is Kane, Bellingham, Rice, Saka and then bench the other 7 positions and we’ve won
Back 3 for me. Walker, Stones and Colwill with Trent and Shaw as full-backs. Trent would have all the freedom to maraud forward since he'll have ultimate cover from Walker on the right. Shaw can either play as a left-back or as the third centre-back in transition. Bellingham and Rice in midfield and Jude can head forwards too with Stones moving up to cover him. The front 2 attacking mids/fowards can be any of Foden, Saka, Maddison, Palmer, Grealish or even Watkins behind Kane
It will basically transition into a 3-2-2-3 Walker, Colwill, Shaw, Rice, Stones, Trent, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Kane
What are your thoughts on playing ghallagher next to rice?
Talking about Jude Bellingham Jimbo.......... you can tell how highly Ancellotti and the Madrid coaching staff think of him as Jude is pretty much allowed to roam around the pitch and make his own decisions.... almost a free rolebif you will.
For a highly experienced World class manager like Ancellotti to allow a 20 year old to do this in a Real Madrid team packed with World class players is unprecedented in my opinion.
I think Jude Bellingham definitely has the potential to be a World class player and a Ballon D'or winner, in fact I'd bet my house on it , I'm that confident. For him the sky really is the limit.........
CAN WE?! PLEASE!
That first system is fcking juicy
System 4 - REplace Shaw with Gomez - reminds me of a review of liverpool you (?) did a few weeks ago.
What software does he use?
If everyone is healthy i'd like to see england play 3--4-3
Pickford
Tomori-Stone-Maguire
Walker-Bellingham-Rice-Chilwell
Saka-Kane-Foden
in possession it will basically be MW
Walker-Tomori-Maguire
Stones-Rice
Saka-Foden-Chilwell
Bellingham-Kane
but i dunno if Southgate would play this offensively. Foden basically is allowed to go everywhere in this set-up. ala Madisson for tottenham.
Rice would play his role in Arsenla (when Jorginho is playing beside him) where he is allowed to arrive late in the box.
Jude would be asked to stick close to Kane ala Alvarez/Haaland at the start for the season for City.
Stones will basically play the holding role.
This formation however would be asking a lot from Chilwell and Rice to also help defending to cover Maguire specially against faster wingers.
I honestly want Colwill over Maguire but I am not sure if he is ready.
Here's my starting 11
433
pickford
Walker Stones. Tomori chillwell
Rice
Mainoo
Bellingham
Saka Kane foden
Missing out on Tomori is a big mistake IMO, being able to play aside stones as a fast, strong center half with great level at Milan. Mainoo is a starboy, he has the balls to share the midfield with rice, playing the ball long more than 94% of midfielders in Europe, great physically, giving balance to a very slow midfield when compared to France for example. Foden has been city's best player this season, he can play right wing, inverting positions with Bellingham and chillwell if needed.
The formation that Southgate will probably deploy:
Pickford
Shaw( if he is fit) Maguire Stones Walker
Rice
Foden Bellingham
Rashford Kane Saka
Or Trent comes in for Rashford as double pivot 6 with Rice, Bellingham as 10 and Foden in LW. This is not my preferred line up though.
England's best Formation/Squad
Pickford
(Ramsdale)
(Johnstone)
Walker Stones Gomez
(Tomori)(Branthwaite)(Colwill)
(Shaw)
TAA Rice
(Barkley) (Mainoo)
Saka Grealish
(Bowen) (Watkins)
Foden Bellingham
(Palmer) (Maddison)
Kane
(Toney)
Heres another system idea
GK. Pickford
RWB. Trent
RCB. Walker
CB. Stones
LCB. Maguire
LWB. Livermento
RDM. Barkley
LDM. Rice
RAM. Foden
LAM. Bellingham
ST. Kane
So the big loser here is Saka obvs, but with so many quality players and different ideas, something has to give.
In this system tho, it puts a lot of players back into the picture. Barkley plays a very similar system at Luton so I feel he would have a very big shout for this squad.
The advantage of this squad would be for like, a lot of swaps can happen seemlessly. You can get Madders, Kane (Yes Kane) to play AM roles, enabling the opportunity for Watkins (in particular) and Toney to get some time in. You can also fit in JWP, Mainoo, Hendo, Gallagher in those DM roles. So a lot of players can fit this system
The system revolves around the DM's and Wing Backs being able to freely make progressive passes and crosses (which is why Trents back in) with the 2 AM's free to make runs and form a barca triangle right up at the pitch with ST without sacrificing the width of the pitch.
A lot of emphasis on the fitness of the wingbacks so players like Doughty, Mitchell, Trippier or move Walker to wide and slot in Colwill would be necessary changes
Also a big fan of the first system James, but leaving a 3 at the back of colwill, stones and walker with rashford the only wide left player is concerning as stones doesn’t play this role and rashford gives no defensive support so we’d be super vulnerable on the left in transition.
For me, stick joe Gomez in for Trent and allow stones to step into midfield with rice with a remaining 3 back of Gomez, Maguire/Dunk, Walker. Overall looking like this in attack:
. Kane
Foden Bellingham Maddison Saka
. Rice Stones
. Gomez Maguire Walker
. Pickford
Very happy with Shaw if he’s fit
Obviously not doable with Southgate but surely the pep system is the best way to go
Gk: Pickford
Defence:
Walker
Stones
Colwill
Midfield:
Rice
Alexander-Arnold
Bellingham
Idk about here maybe Maddison/Gallagher/Foden/Jones
Forwards:
Foden
Saka
Kane
trying to cram bellingham and foden into the midfield might just end up being the gerrard / lampard of our generation, where they both find themselves picking up similar positions and end up just getting in one another's way more than anything
What is the name of the website you used?
Anyone know what he uses for that tactics board?
As somebody who is not english I think that Mainoo has worked his way into southgates side particularly over the past few weeks. Him on the ball is magnificent. Bellingham must play at the 10 because Kane will drop in and Bellingham will push further up. With Saka on the right I think Rashford offers more than any other lw in the England side. I would say go Pickford, Walker Stones Maguire Shaw, Rice at the 6, Mainoo 8, Bellingham 10, Saka Kane Rashford. Rashford even on poor form is more dangerous than any other lw England has and at the end of the day which right back do you trust against Rashford isolated out on the wing? Bellingham and Kane make it so the CBs cant go help out wide without worry, Mainoo has linked up brilliantly with him too (see what should have been a McTominay goal against Liverpool). I think that is the best side possible out of the England camp.
Maguire has to start. Bellingham has to be on Saka's side, not Foden.
trent rb with walker at rcb and colwill/shaw at lb would make more sense for trent inverting.
pickford
trent, walker, stones, shaw
rices, mainoo
saka bellingham foden
kane
Why on earth would you start colwill over branthwaite who’s been one of the best young defenders individually in the world this season?
Joe Gomez was quite literally Liverpool’s best player in December and early January playing as an inverted left back. He is DEFINITELY NOT just filling a gap or playing a role, he’s excelling
He’s been amazing! Has to be mentioned for lfc player of the year, in the same breath as Endo, Mac, VVD, etc. won’t win it, but what a turnaround he’s had! Glad to have him back.
He was not liverpool's best player in december or January??
Trent, jones and jota were all better. Even konate and vvd were better??
There's another interesting formation: 4-1-4-1. Cole Palmer RW, Jude Bellingham RCM, James Maddison LCM and Phil Foden LW. Very offensive, but possible in some scenarios
Why does Palmer start over saka?
Aisa England manager I love him so much
The main thing I took from this video is god we’re weak on that left defensive side. I think Joe Gomez has to play LB, but that LCB option is tricky.
I know he’s never been bad for England but I just can’t be confident with Maguire there, Colwill still feels slightly too inexperienced to go straight into a major tournament. Maybe we move Stones over and play Dunk/Konsa/Tomori RCB, but that feels kinda weak aswell.
Making me think maybe it should be Gomez and Stones CB and just see who’s the most fit and inform out of Chilwell or Shaw at the time of the tournament.
I wish White would have joined the squad and I’d be more comfortable with White and Stones CB with Gomez LB
id play foden on left and bellingham left centre mid and allow them more free roam to swap
For me, TAA has to either be in CM or on the bench. Nowhere else.
I've said from day one they will win nothing with Southgate in charge and nothings changed. Pretty much the same with most of the previous managers.
idk, why is trent on the left side? wouldnt this work exactly the same with him on the right?
What app do you use to make the teams?
99% sure its one that he commissioned someone else to make for his own use
Takw it from me a liverpool fan, You don't want Trent anywhere in the left especially as LB.
why not?
Trust me you’re just making shit up, and probably not a Liverpool fan just one of those Trent haters. How would you know if playing him at left back works or not if he’s never played there. Look at what Cancelo did at left back, similar skillset, became known as the best left back itw.
You don't want him anywhere in the starting 11
Trent is solid as an inverted FB, doesn't matter if it's at RB or LB.
@@user-oj8ch8kq7k he's really not
I agree completely except no way is rashford playing instead of grealish
You are wrong about Trent’s curling ball. Playing off the right he curls back into the player with his instep. Playing off the left his curl will be in the blind spot of the receiver, or if on their left shoulder, it could get away from them off the surface. Think DavId Beckham and how he passed a football!
