  • Lothal in Gujarat is one of the most prominent cities of the ancient Indus valley civilization. Located in the Bhal region of the modern state of Gujarāt and dates from 2400 BCE. Discovered in 1954, Lothal was excavated from 13 February 1955 to 19 May 1960 by Prof. S.R. Rao of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the official Indian government agency for the preservation of ancient monuments. Lothal's dock-the world's earliest known, connected the city to an ancient course of the Sabarmati river on the trade route between Harappan cities in Sindh and the peninsula of Saurashtra when the surrounding Kutch desert of today was a part of the Arabian Sea. It was a vital and thriving trade center in ancient times, with its trade of beads, gems, and valuable ornaments reaching the far corners of West Asia and Africa. The techniques and tools they pioneered for bead-making and metallurgy have stood the test of time for over 4000 years.
The meaning of Lothal (a combination of Loth and (s) that) in Gujarati to be "the mound of the dead" is not unusual, as the name of the city of Mohenjo-Daro in Sindhi means the same. People in villages neighboring Lothal had known of the presence of an ancient town and human remains.
    How to Reach :
Lothal is situated near the village of Saragwala in the Dholka Taluka of Ahmedabad district. It is six kilometers (south-east) from the Lothal-Bhurkhi railway station on the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar railway line. It is also connected by all-weather roads to the cities of Ahmedabad (85 km/53 mi), Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Dholka. The nearest cities are Dholka and Bagodara. Ahmedabad is the nearest Airpot.
    Travel Tips :
If you Plan to Visit Lothal, you must travel on your own or in a Private Vehicle. No Food Facility is Available nearby the site, so carry your food with you. Basic Amenities like Water & Toilet are Available at the Museum site. Avoid visiting during mid-afternoon, as the heavy sun will bother you for a Proper site visit.
    Timings & Entry :
Museum Time 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Friday Closed)
Entry Fees Rs. 5:00 Per Head For Indian Citizen
    Rs. 100/- For Foreign Tourist
(Children up to 15 years Free)

Lothal is situated on the bank of bhogavo river in dholka taluka, in Ahmedabad district. Lothal was commercial port and an industrial town in ancient times, A structure made of bricks has been found in lothal. It is considered that it is must have been a dockyard. In addition, warehouses and bead factory have been found here. So it can be said that lothal was a prosperous port of ancient India and international trade of harappan civilization must have been done through the port of lothal.

    • @gurukn
      @gurukn 2 года назад

Indeed! A dockyard made of burnt bricks and everything. The dockyards connected to the "Gulf of Cambay" through channels. Also, remains of stone anchors and marine shells which have been traced back to the Persian Gulf. Trade with Mesopotamia, in all likelihood.

There's just so much in MY country that I could not even have imagined. Think about it, some people speculate that the Harappans, after they abandoned most of their settlement got to be known by the Aryans as the "Shudras." If that's true, what an absolute SHAME. Can you imagine?! From one of, if not THE MOST advanced Bronze Age Civ. to being looked down upon by immigrants.

It is essentially a single culture site-the Harappan culture in all its variances is evidenced. An indigenous micaceous Red Ware culture also existed, which is believed to be autochthonous and pre-Harappan.[citation needed] Two sub-periods of Harappan culture are distinguished: the same period (between 2400 and 1900 BCE) is identical to the exuberant culture of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro.

Gods are an evolving concept. New God's are added and old ones are forgotten. Just like Indra is not worshipped any more. There's not many Brahma temples. Just 6-7 temples in whole of India. So we men keep.changing our gods. Just like so many who worshipped the Sanatan Dharma gods have changed their gods on a regular basis. Moving away from the Sanatani Gods to Buddhism to Jain Teethankas to Swaminarayan Bapu to Sikhism to Abrahamic messenger like Jesus (Son of God) and Mohammad (messenger of Allah). So man has made God not the other way around. As far as worship of the Sanatani Gods is concerned, there have been seals found with images of Shiva like figures. But nothing concrete is found. It will be one day
      . Hopefully.

No, I think we must visit such places with our children, so that they can understand our history much better than classrooms.

@@DiscoverIndiabyroad climate change is the culprit. Some places where there was water, dried up or got flooded. E.g. the entire Kutch region was under water. Thus you see the salt marches as all water has dried up. Some places rivers dried up or river changed its course. Eg.Hakra Ghagghar/Sarasvati . They say the Sabarmati was navigational till the 1940s. And Lothal was one of the ports at the mouth of the Sabarmati.
Most of the population migrated eastward towards the Gangetic plains. Their memory of the Saraswati has been embedded in the Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj where the Ganga and Yamuna meet but the Sarasvati is nowhere in the region.
There's also a theory of invasion. But that theory is ruled out because of lack of mass graves/skeletons.
