    Brilliant. I bought these scales from VoxEDC and found this video was instrumental in being able to install them. The scales have an improved finish. The only challenge I had was getting the lock bar installed correctly; I did it backwards the first time. Thanks for this!

    I didn't even know you could take this knife apart. I swear someone told me a long time ago you couldn't and I just took their word for it. But, if people make custom scales for it, you clearly gotta be able to. This was very helpful, thank you.

    Lovely stuff brother the lights looked perfect to my eyes, as for the scale change they might of not been 100%perfect as in you having to do some edge smoothing but hell it definitely made 100% difference in how much nicer that dragonfly looks. Hope you have a beautiful happy brain day brother each day as it comes 😘👍

    Well, I looked at the price for the micarta scales for the Dragonfly 2 and they cost as much as a whole new knife! While I admire your project, I’d prefer to get a whole new knife, maybe in a different color or blade steel. I loved watching your video.

    Color is good, brightness is good. Lights seem fine. Now let's use an end mill bit in a drill press to make pockets for some caged bearings and make the ultimate Dragonfly.

    Did you not put the o rings back on? I saw a pair sitting over by the prybar once you were done. The scales looked really good. Probably feel a lot better than the FRN.

    • @Stassa23

      No I didn’t put them back in because the scales don’t have a place for them, I guess you don’t need them with the Micarta scales because it works fine without w 👍🏻

    So quick question does aftermarket scales they do not set the depth of the initial spring bar like the original you just said it until it seats all the way I'm guessing by your statement that you can adjust how far the Spring Bar seats into the set of scales? Does this make sense

    • @Stassa23
      @Stassa23  2 года назад

      Not sure I’m really following you. The only adjustment you can do to the spring is slide it from one side or the other of the steel rocker arm. The spring I think is normally supposed to be slide all the way into its slot so it touches the back but that makes the spring tension a little stronger. Not sure if this helps any or if I made any sense either 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Gotta get me a set of these! I daily carry a fully SE Dragonfly along with whatever primary blade I'm carrying for the day, just to have the added utility of the Spyderedge on me at all times. So far I have swapped one into the Zome Green and another on the Pakkawood version. Looks like I'm gonna be picking up yet another some time soon.

    Very good vid! Thanks. One question: Don’t you want the torx screw on the clip side? That allows the all-chrome pins on the show side.

  • @tima7662
    @tima7662 3 года назад

    Lights look good. You can put the blade in with the pivot and push down on the back lock and put in that sleeve screw where it holds the spring down too. Did that with my Endura's when cleaning them. I like that way better because it keeps your hands away from the blade. Still those scales don't look too bad. I wish there were more companies or people that made aftermarket scales for Spyderco models beside the paramilitary 2, para 3, smock and Manix models. Would love to get some micarta scales for my endura's.

    I have the same fit and finish issues with my scales (I have this *precise* same knife) but they honestly don’t bother me. My lock bar sits about 10-20 thou proud when it’s closed but it’s so minimal that it just doesn’t hassle me at all. In my mind, I had already designated this as an “endless edge retention”, light duty knife. Honestly, the dragonfly shouldn’t be used too stoutly anyway just because of what it is…a washerless, linerless, slice machine. If I need some more k390 “oomph”, I’m gonna reach for the endela…oddly, that’s probably the heaviest duty model in the whole lot. I own them all and the endela even out-classes the police in terms of stoutness and belly.

    FRN is stronger and tougher than micarta. Taking a big step backwards in usability here imo. The FRN DF is already kinda weak laterally.
    It's more expensive but I think the right way and also the easier way is to buy a G10 DF. Then you get full length SS liners, a SS backspacer that also houses the lockback spring and PB washers. Now you can make scales very easily since they are completely flat and featureless on their backsides. And you end up with a much more substantial knife.

    • @Stassa23
      @Stassa23  3 года назад

      Micarta is plenty strong enough for what type of work I would be doing with such a small knife. I may pick up the Pakkawood version in Hap40 but the G10 version is in VG10 and Spyderco’s VG10 is butter soft , I sharpen my wharny dragonfly in VG10 way to much so now it’s a glorified letter opener for me 👌🏻

    • @grafja
      @grafja 3 года назад +1

      @@Stassa23 Sorry, I thought it was implied to swap the K390 blade over to the G10 internals. Now you have the steel and great ergonomic grip to actually get a little more work done. I'm thinking of doing a blackwashed K390 wharncliffe on rit-dyed black G10. Looks sick in my head.
