I like Kermode. But he can be extremely critical and sometimes unfairly so. Ok, he is a film critc so it's his job to be critical. But this is a great film. It's not overly indie (whatever that means) and people should rush out to see it.
I agree I found it watchable and Gosling is a watchable lead. It’s true it doesn’t really know what it’s saying. Interesting Mark now hails it as a classic via BFI!

Way off as ever Kermode. It’s not earnest in the least.
Time has clearly changed his opinions on this movie because he really likes it now just watch his BFI review for Half Nelson.......
