I enjoy hearing the perspectives of the Hoover Institute. A little bit of constructive criticism though. You really need better sound for any talks that take place in this room. The audio quality is terrible. I don't hear these issues with Uncommon Knowledge or Goodfellows. That makes the listening experience much more enjoyable.

Our government was the key in disruption in the Middle East when they remove Gaddafi and Hussein. Maybe they weren't the best person. But they kept peace with the tribes.

Sad to see Kotkin sell out despite possessing immense gifts.

It's impossible to have an honest discussion about the Iraq war without addressing key features of the 9/11 attacks - including: Building 7 controlled demolition, NORAD stand down (see Norman Mineta's testimony), still unreleased videos of the Pentagon crash, ex-military receiving payments to appear in mainstream publications and on TV saying we need to invade Iraq. This presentation might have made sense a decade ago, but in 2023 the evidence to the contrary of Mr. Leffler's position is well understood and the optics of this whole talk are really in bad faith and just another apology on behalf of the failures of the Bush administration. Mr. Leffler's comments seem out of touch and blinkered.
