Long-time Labour voter Owen Jones says 'he could see this coming' due to 'the various problems' with the Party.
'They have no vision, they have no soul, they're self-serving careerists', begins Owen Jones, as he attempts to list all of the issues with the government.
Rosie Duffield, 53, is the fastest MP to leave a party after a general election in modern history.
In her resignation letter, the now-Independent MP for Canterbury, wrote to the Prime Minister: "I am so ashamed of what you and your inner circle have done to tarnish and humiliate our once proud party.”

How bad does a government have to be to unite Owen Jones and Rosie Duffield in their (justified) contempt?
Not particularly bad. Owen Jones has a history of going for Starmer (and "New Labour" types in general) at the slightest hint of an opportunity, whilst he let the ineptitude of Compo Corbyn and Old Mcdonell's leadership go virtually unchallenged.
This guy will only be happy when we have labour out of power. Then he can criticise.the Goverment without a guilty conscience..

@@nazb1982 One enormous difference is that, thanks to the mismanagement of the economy over the past 14 years, this Government has far, far less money at its disposal than Cameron ever had.
And, thanks to the madness of Brexit and the knee-capping of trade links to a huge market on our doorstep, Starmer has fewer options with which to generate economic recovery, let alone economic growth.
Of course, Corbyn and Macdonnell were secretly in favour of Brexit, and did their best to undermine the Remain campaign, despite nominally (and hypocritically) being part of it.
He is so right. Labour doesn’t deserve that name anymore. Has got nothing to do with laborers, it’s just conservatives 2.0

I was a life long Labour, but no more, Starmer is leading just another Tory government, Owen is so correct. We desperately need a new party that will truly represent the interests of ordinary working people.

I’m not sure how this could be the first time you’ve agreed with him when he’s just saying the same stuff he usually says. Perhaps you decide whether or not you agree with someone based on who, rather than what, they’re arguing for or against. Much like a football supporter supports their team no matter what.

Remember how he claimed to be the prime minster to us everyone. Then actually almost immediately after he was elected he turned on the weakest in society and gave them no chance to avoid hardship. It is beyond draconian, it’s evil.

Where's the "truth" in the assertion that Starmer accepted hundreds of thousands of pounds in donations whilst removing the Winter Fuel payment, when the vast bulk of those donations were actually received - and _declared_ - before he became PM?
Owen Jones is not a patriot. He's spent the majority of his career condemning "populism" and, mocking the British working class.
He is right with a lot of his criticism of the current government but, he was amongst the many to pave the way for such an uncaring, authoritarian government.

With nearly 100,000 applications for a benefits increase from the poorest of pensioners doesn't it beg the question, did the last government know they were being underpaid? If they didn't know why didn't they know and worse still if they did know why did they keep it quiet. Just asking.
Many pensioners are either too embarrassed to claim pension credit or simply cannot navigate the 40 page on-line application. The Tories understood that a universal cold weather payment would help every senior citizen equally.

Couldn't say it better. It is nauseating. A huge con - nothing to do with the aspirations of the millions of people who voted for change which the labour party promised. Sickening.
The two child benefit cap was the correct call… why should the state continue to subsidise people who’s life choices are to have a shed loads of kids and hope the UK taxpayer will subsidise them in return. The fact we have a benefits system that has the backside ripped out if it by all and sundry is the reason why people choose to leave safe European countries we take holidays in to risk crossing the Channel to reach the land of milk and honey.
Starmer like the rest before him will only further his own interests. The British political system needs an overhaul from top to bottom.

Certainly Keir Starmer has shown poor judgment. Being tough on powerless people isn't a tough choice at all. He doesn't need any freebies. However his misdemeanours are hardly on the exorbitant Boris level something that seems to have been forgotten far too soon.

Maybe if elites like Sir Keir had done a better job at the top campainging against Brexit, we wouldn't be in this situation. But we are where we are, largely because of the failure of elites like him. So, the punishment should NOT fall on blameless people like me.
As for debt, personally, I'd recommend a pay freeze for all public sector workers, but Reeves and Starmer's bright idea was to increase the salaries of upper-middle-class professionals whilst punishing the elderly, poor children and the disabled. Poor decisions.
LOL - I told everyone for 2 years that Starmer had the look of a haunted man whenever he posed for a photograph - all you had to do was look at his face. There is a lot more to come on Starmer - i put a & 20 bet on him being gone in 12 months in August at 200/1 - something tells me I'm on track to collect.

This is how bad things are for Labour, and I mean this sincerely: When normal everyday people start agreeing with people like Owen Jones and Ash Sarkar, you know it’s bad!
Owen Jone’s could not be more wrong about some things, but I certainly agree with much of his perspective here - as I do with Rosie Duffield.
Name one politician who does have vision and the skill set to implement it. Career politicians are past their sell by date. We need people with the ability to recognise the root cause of issues and formulate ideas to resolve them. They don't just have any vision they have no foresight either.
