I was also waiting for the 1300. I found out that the 1300 Adventure won't be out until mid 2025. I test drove the 1250 Trophy adventure and bought it. If I decide to upgrade in 2025, no problem. However, I absolutely love this bike. I may hang on to it for a few years.

Dave, as always excellent video. I bought my new GSA Triple Back in March after spending 12 months doing research, test rides and what my needs were and would be going forward being 70 years old, 186cm and 78kgs. In the first week I made it 'mine' - stripped it done with the aid of the ABBA Sky jack and then fully loaded it and then some - ezCAN(s), Panniers - BUMOT Defender sides, GIVI 80lt Top box, cameras F/R, additional lights - F/R, Indicators, etc. Pretty much everything! It has 8000 miles on it, I did the 'Running In' service myself by the book having purchased the GS-911 to read / reset software & hardware codes. The bike now has 8000 miles on the 'clock', My wife and I have toured Europe and did a 4000 mile 2 week trip to Africa in June. I hadn't road a bike previous to the GSA for 4 years and that was a Honda 1300 Super Sport so in the 'early days' I did, from a stop, lay it down on it's side once or twice due to not reading cambers right - my fault. We ride the bike in all weathers, day and night. Yes it looks bulky but I love the protection and sitting 'IN" the bike. the 30 litre tank, not a problem, you don't have to fill it!!!! and the bike came with a centre stand which really is a must and not an 'extra'. In reviews for the 1300, the emphasis always seems to be on the extra 'Power & Torque' it provides and the BMW ads show rides on extreme terrain doing amazing manoeuvres that I could never ever do even if the bike wasn't mine like those riders in the video. Everyone to their own - the world needs diversity and change and long may it continue. I'm going to look at 'MY" bike now and fall in love all over again 🤩🤩🤩
    Best Regards,
    Martin

Morning Dave. Just gone through the same process, upgrading my brilliant 2017 1200 GS. Recently had a 1250 GS and 1250 GSA curteousy bikes and the GSA was brilliant, but i didn't need the extra bulk and fuel capacity. I opted for a 1250 GS te exclusive, and absolutely love it. It's enough of an evolution from the 1200 to feel like you've made a change, and retains everything that was good about the earlier models. I,d recommend getting a test ride on a standard 1250gs before deciding on the GSA. Both brilliant though.

I don’t intend to change my 1250GSA 2019 model especially for an over priced and over specced 1300. I don’t care that it's sportier and smaller as Im 6ft6in tall and don’t need lowering!
If I go anywhere it could be Triumph.
I have modded my 1250 with a heated and comfy Sargent seat, an Innovv third eye rear radar and shortly my Wunderlich Marathon screen will be electrified!

I bought an RT over a GSA during the BMW production shut down in 2022. The dealer suggested it as I commute. However, at the end of August I was on a loan GSA and it’s so much easier to ride than the RT. The RT isn’t hard to ride (or move around at low speed) it’s just the GSA is simply in tune with everything you do.
Also, a big fuel tank is useful, especially if you commute or ride in all weathers. My RT has 25 litres and I can squeeze 2 round commutes to London which equates to 280 miles. Thats with “spirited” riding on the “quicker” parts of the M1 and roads to the M1. Before February 2023, when we moved 30 miles closer, I had to fill up every 3 journeys. It’s ok in good weather, but we all know it’s not nice having to put wet gloves back into dry sleeves. So the 30 litre tank is far better for you Dave from that simple point of view.
Lastly, road presence is a massive safety aspect you can’t ignore with the GSA (and RT). Slimming the new GS may make it look more like the KTM and Ducati (which is clearly one of the aims) but it’s less safe now, in my mind. They’ll do the same to the 1300GSA wait and see. This is one fat girl that doesn’t need to slim down!

I had to smile when I saw your video... I purchased my R1200GSA new back in 2007 and have been riding it since. It is still a fantastic bike, 17 years later with no issues and running like new after around 74000 miles. It got to the point though where I wanted some of the modern features so I started looking at the 1250 GSA just before the 1300 was announced. I was looking in earnest since BMW here in the US had an October promotion with $1K off and 2.9% interest, plus the dealer offered another $1K off the demo bike with only 260 miles and it was the Trophy which is what I wanted. Oh, and then there is the current 25% off accessories. I have the aluminum panniers and top box on my 2007 and they are just built like a tank and at 25% that was a no brainer...
The day I came in to my dealer to take another look, the 1300 Tramontana arrived... after seeing it on countless videos I have to admit that in the flesh it looks much better. But still it is no GSA and it is too slender for me... I am 190cm and a GSA is the only bike I feel is not too small for me. As I don't want to wait for the new GSA, I took the deal, ordered the cases and the Connected Ride cradle. The 1250 Trophy GSA is now in my garage and I could not be happier.
If the 1300 GSA turns out to be a hit, I can still trade this one in 3 or 4 years down the road. Until then I will make memories on the bike that makes me happy 🙂Whatever choice you make, you'll have fun.

Totally understand where you are in this decision. I am exactly in the same position as of last week. I've wanted a stable mate for my R1200c and have been waiting for the 1300 to come out for a year just to make sure I don't make the wrong decision (something I'm known for in the family). It came down to this - my mind head telling me the 1300 but my heart was telling the 1250. Well, as of last week - I bought the 1250GSA Triple Black and I'm picking it up this Saturday. Why ? Well, for me the 1250 is 'Peak GS' the 1300 is a new bloodline, GS II if you like and it just doesn't get my juices flowing, I get excited just thinking of the trips I'm going to do going forward.

The bike is averaging close to 49mpg so the range from the 20l is still sufficient. I put a GSA screen on and got better wind protection on the body and across the shoulders but the wind hitting the helmet a little low so ive a puig touring screen on the way. Morning Dave - like you, I love the blue Trophy colour and the 1250 is well sorted at this stage do you won’t experience any unknown problems and all GS riders rave about the shift cam. The 1200/1250 already has a great range so do you need the extra 10 litres - I think that adds another 10 kilos when full so I’ve always been wary of the extra weight. 18:21 18:21 18:21 And like you, I love the all the new gadgets. The TFT is a huge step up from your 1200 and the bike you’re riding has crash bars, fog lights and racks for the alum boxes but I think you’ll regret not buying a 1300 if you stick with BMW. Of course, money comes into the equation and that was always a factor for me. I’ve had 2 models with TFT and love it - really easy to read and I use the connectivity all the time. Did you look at Duffy’s regular 1250 with low chassis. Colour isn’t as nice but it’ll be cheaper and suit you better in terms of weight and height. Happy hunting - always here if you want to reach out.

I've had the R1150GS, R1200GS and now the R1250GS. The 1150 was much more of a tractor than the 1200, and the 1250 gearbox improves over the 1200. I'm sure the new 1300 will be even better. Having said that I have no problem with my 1250 gearbox. I've recently toured in Tuscani, Italy and in the mountains around Malaga, Spain and had no problem with fuel range on the standard GS. For me, I don't need the increased range and weight of the GSA. My 1250 is a keeper for a few more years yet (15,000 mls in 2yrs) by which time the (not yet revealed) problems with the new 1300 might be sorted out.

Great machine Dave, my list includes a low chassis 1200 gas or a 1250 if I can find one in budget but I am more likely to find a KTM 1090 or 1190 in budget and look at lowering it a bit. Tough choices but great fun doing the homework on these machines.

  • @Mototherapy_online
    @Mototherapy_online Год назад

Tough choice ahead Dave ! I am 180cm, and the low chassis was a bit low and a bit less comfy for my leg length and with a pillion. I ended up with the regular height GSA, and both feet are not fat planted. Ok when riding alone, but when riding with a pillion, I lower the suspension (preload to min and not auto), and keep it firmer (wonder if this words exists in English) by setting the suspension on dynamic. Enough comfort for my miss and both feet flat planted for the low speed manœuvres. Oh, before that, I fell twice with her, because on not paying attention to where I put my feet, with the bike fully loaded.
This is also a trap : the more place you have to bring things, the more useless things you bring on your trips 😂 and the heavier the bike is. As long as it rolls, you hardly feel it (this is scary engineering magic 😳), but on the stop, the big fat tractor is back. And I love it, all that grunt at the bottom : when riding alone, they could have made a 2 gears box ! 1st and 6 😂

  • @justice3442
    @justice3442 Год назад

If you spec the bike with the pillion seat (no cost option) you will get the standard GSA screen which is taller and wider. That screen is the one fitted to standard the standard GS but comes on the trophy GSA with the single seat

There’s that word,”infamous” again 😂 What I resent is BMW going down the route of integrating the rear light into multifunction indicators. From a safety aspect I think it’s a bad move. When paying all that money for a new bike you have to spend more for an additional rear light. Big mistake BMW. I love my GSA and will be keeping it for the time being rather than buying the new 1300.

Dave I just live up the road from you and have a GSA with 27k in two years. I’m very fortunate to have an XR as well. I recently rode the 1300. It has much firmer suspension compared to the GS and doesn’t compare to the comfort of the GSA. Everyone is saying the new gear box is so smooth, I found only a small difference. You still have to get to 2nd or 3rd before it works correctly whereas my XR works right from 1st with a proper quickshifter. The 1300 is quicker with more torque, you notice the lightness straight away and it handles very sharp. Its handling is a bit like riding the GSA in dynamic suspension all the time. You pays your money you makes your choice. I’m looking at the Multistrada V4 Rally and the Triumph at the moment. By the way the triple black is lovely in the new bike.

Dave, another great video! I currently ride a 2021 R1250GSA and love it. I purchased the lowered suspension model and am really glad I did so. In the past, I rode a 1200 GSA std suspension and had to be extremely careful at stops. (I am 5' 9" with a 30-inch inseam.)
Like you, something about the styling of the new 1300GS bothers me -- specifically, the new headlight design and the lack of a center tail/brake light. I find myself saying that I am happy with and will keep my 1250GSA.
Regarding your observations about wind on the GSA. The GSA's wind protection is outstanding because of the large frontal area of the bike. Like you, I experience buffeting with the stock windscreen and consider it a fairly minor fault. I have found the 1250 engine to be a significant improvement over the 1200 motor. The slightly heavier weight also helps settle the bike on the road, but definitely makes it a pig in the parking lot.
I have put over 28,000 miles (45,000 km) in just over two years and the bike has been flawless. I ride it exclusively on the roads. I just extended the standard 3-year factory warranty by four additional years and plan to keep the bike for quite a while. If you decide to trade your R1200GS for a R1250GSA, I do not think you will regret it.
A quick question for you. I assume you are still satisfied with your DJI Action 3 cameras versus the GoPro? Have you had any issue with a camera loosening from its magnetic mount while riding?

I bought my first BMW, the R1250GSA in triple black, a week after the reveal. Two days after the reveal I visited the dealership for the first time, one week later I bought it. So about three weeks ago now. It has always been one of my dream bikes but I was always postponing buying one. But after I saw what BMW did to the R1250GS with the R1300GS I already could imagine what they were about to do to the GSA. So in my mind I had to be quick before it would be to late to ever own a new R1250GSA. It turns out now that the R1250GSA will be in production for at least another year but I don’t care. Buying it now or in a year, it doesn’t make a difference to me. A week ago the dealership where I bought mine did their own presentation of the R1300GS and they placed the R1250GSA in triple black, the same as mine, next to it so people could directly compare. Man I can tell you, I was a very happy guy at that moment and I still am. I have my dream bike. Upgrade to the R1250GSA now you still can, you will be a very happy man. I love BMW, I also own a 2017 4 series gran coupe, but they definitely need to get their shit together because after fucking up their cars they are starting to do the same to their motorcycles.

The GSA is a plusher ride and designed for big tours. The extra protection around the tank is great if you do some time on the motorway, no sign of a 1300 GSA yet, the trophy model is more offroad focussed so the screen is smaller and you get a really seat, those aren't great for touring. The size of the bike can be a possitive giving greater road presence and more comfort I really enjoy mine and I changed from a stanard GS. I will wait and see what the 1300 GSA looks like, but that's going to be another 12 months I was told

Had two standard GSs, both 1200s and I loved them especially the 2015 Triple Black. Moved then onto the 1250 GSA and was really disappointed, great engine but heavy and tall especially for me with a 29” inside leg. In the end I’d dropped it three times and decided I made a bad choice. My experience is that it’s a great bike for the longer legged who enjoy long tours two up, it’s as good if not better than any touring bike, buffeting cured by Puig touring screen. Moved ‘down’ to a Multi V2S with a much lower seat and lighter weight which has been more than a pleasant surprise. Conclusion for a solo rider is that a 900 engine is more than enough for the road especially with the torque of a vee twin. Hence I’m seriously interested in the new Tiger 900 with its upgraded engine and the Africa Twin with its new lower seat height though it’s heavy.

I had a similar experience on my 2018 GSA with the screen and buffeting. If you do wish to go the GSA route then I'd recommend the Wunderlich Marathon screen, it completely eliminated the buffeting I was getting.
However, I think pound for pound the standard GS model is a better bike. I'm 5"11 so the GSA height isn't really a problem but the normal GS (which I have also ridden) felt much more manageable and it still has loads of range on the smaller tank.

I’d go for a factory seat height reduced model on the 1250 GSA, more confidence when manual handling & of course slow speed control etc. Pillion seat with the larger screen = little buffering. & of course more comfortable.
No need to fill the the tank up to 30 litres. 25 more than ample.
What about some weight shaving on the 1250 GSA!
The battery weight is 4.9 Kg on the 1250 GSA bike & a new lithium battery same as in the R-1300 GS weights in at 0.9Kg! No need to fill the the tank up to 30 litres. If you fill up to 25 ltrs saves that’s 3.7 Kg.
Upper Cylinder protection alone weights in at 3.5KG, you can easily get aftermarket ones e.g machine art moto weights 1Kg
That’s a total weight reduction of 10.2KG! The new GS is getting rave reviews about the weight loss, well could just copy that lol 😀
Look forward to see what you go for🏍️

Dave I went from a GS1200 to the GS 1250 Trophy same colour as that one. It is a phenomenal bike and so much better than the 1200 imo. Got a price on a Triple Black GS1300 but it just didn't make sense and it's not that much better than the 1250 although it is an improvement. In another 2 years I'll be looking for a low mileage used 1300 but for now my 1250 is awesome and everything I need in a all year round bike.😎👍

The 1300Gs is a revolution from the 1250. BMW themselves have admitted this as evolving the 1250 was no longer sustainable. The GSA great for some specific uses, countries and huge tours. So if you are thinking Gs or GSA the 1300 makes absolute sense with cost being the only downside, but we are where we are with that... Have a sniff around some of the middleweight adventure style bikes which much more sense IMHO

Considering the design language of the R1300GS, I cannot imagine that the R1300 GSA will not lose its ruggedness.
Thus, if it were my decision, I would absolutely get the R1250 GSA.
The “upgrades” of the R1300 aren’t worth the sticker price, and the loss of design significance, emulating mainstream Japanese design are lackluster to me.
The atrocious looking headlight was the “death stab” for me.
Regarding power and torque: 99% of GS/A riders aren’t anywhere close to using the HP and torque of the 1250, and definitely won’t max-out the R1300 either.
Radar cruise? I like the current cruise control. I don’t see the upside of radar cruise.
The one feature I’d like to have on the 1250, are the blind spot mirrors.
As far as your sensation of being top heavy. Yes, with a full tank and pushing it around, it’s top heavy. Once the behemoth rolls, it’s like a feather - as you probably found out yourself, too.
The Rallye seat is…well…useless for anything above 15 mile distance. 😅
One other thing…from what I understand from other reviewers who have ridden the R1300 GS, most mentioned that they’re sitting “on” the bike, rather than “in” the bike.
Long story short…I’d get the R1250 GSA and be happy for years to come.

I have an idea, replace your 1200GS with a 1250GS. The 1250GS is the same size, seat height and tank size as your 1200GS. The question is do you need a GSA with all the weight and ponderance that comes with it??

  • @inked-96
    @inked-96 10 месяцев назад

So, I currently have a 1200GSA 2019. It's a good bike..But.. they are not as reliable as people make out. A bit boring, high service costs, for me, being a new rider, insurance had cost me £1650!!
After riding the 2021 V Strom 1050XT, at around 5k less than what I bought my 1200GSA for, there's nothing the V-Strom can't do that the GSA can...
GS's have a bad stereotype, and for good reason 😂. I'm yet to see anyone under 40 own one other than myself at 27. Yeah, it's not for me.
If I wanna go off road, I wouldn't take a big adventure bike. Bought a Honda CRF450 for that
Strom will likely be the replacement at a fraction of the cost, cheaper to run, cheaper to insure, cheaper to service, and it isn't stereotyped as being an old man's bike😂. Strom is just a tool. Nothing thrilling about it.
How are you finding your street triple 765rs? I'm yet to ride one yet.
I'm looking at the 765rs or tuono 1100 as the next weekend toy.

Your 1200 can do the same and it can do the same kilometers. I ride an 1150 with 100.000 km on it . I can tell you not many people can keep up with me in the curves and it only has 85 HP. How many years you will ride and how many kilometers will you do. Do it last until the end of? You now there are 1200 GS with 300.000 km’s on it. Man with 32000 km’s on it you will ride it a lifetime and you safe yourself some euros 😅.
