I recently just started playing GB1 again, and one of the first people you can talk to in the Rock Club tells you: "Gee! I Lost! Matthew's really good! He'll probably inherit the legendary Pokemon Cards!" After watching this challenge it made me giggle.
Ha! Well that’s good to know. I haven’t played the physical copy in about 20 years, so now I feel better about definitely not cheating with save state.
@@remvaizor3522 You can save between matches in the Elite four in Red and Blue, but that doesn't mean you're supposed to. Obviously it doesn't really matter, but the idea is that you have to defeat four (or five) bosses in a row. More competitive players will attempt to do them all in a row without saving because it means you have to have a good team or play very well to get all the battles to go your way in a row. An inferior team could get through the four matches with saves by simply playing until the luck goes your way. Having the four (or five) matches in a row is a way of eliminating luck based strategies. Like I said, it doesn't actually matter. But the whole premise of having to battle the final bosses all in a row is to make luck a less viable strategy. In a contest like this (with only Parasect-line pokemon even against a fire boss), it certainly makes sense to save your time and sanity with saves.
@@IsaacTheSalsaShark You can swap decks in between opponents in this game as well, to take advantage of type advantage. The game intends for you to be able to save as well, so the challenge is intact.
Never really played the TCG and kinda forgot that it wasn't a typical Pokémon game so that "two Muks and a Mewtwo" line out of nowhere for the Science Club leader absolutely sidelined me lol.
I don't understand why using save states on the final four would be considered cheating considering they GIVE you a free save point before the match to save scum...
I’ve since changed my stance on this. I only meant that like, in the universe of the game. The Grandmasters want your character to win one after another.
I’m loving these TCG videos so much omg. I know content has a limit since there are so few Pokémon TCG video games released, but I’ll watch whatever challenges you cook up! I had an idea for one that I thought was interesting - beating the game using moves that only deal indirect damage, like cat punch on meowth. I’m not sure how many Pokémon actually have moves like that that don’t also deal direct damage, but it’s a thought!
29:40 Speaking of save states, I think it would be alright to use one after going through the game's long tutorial, but before you pick which of the three decks you want to start out with. Would save a lot of time whenever you start a new challenge.
Going by Matthew's statement at the end, that implies his cards were Legendary Pokemon Cards all along. Which makes him look even worse since he can't even utilize their full power very well at all.
If you do future challenges, pack farming for the challenge cards can be greatly sped up with the DownA glitch, unless of course you want to play the matches for fun. If you aren't aware of the glitch, you just enter the check screen with 'select' during a duel. If you have bench pokemon, move the cursor to bench but stay on the overview screen, not the party screen. Otherwise, leave the cursor on your active pokemon. Then press 'down' and 'A' on the same frame. 50% of the time the match ends and you win. 50% of the time you get stuck in the party screen and need to press 'B' and then 'A' a frame later to redo the glitch.
With having this being Matthew's Deck Video in mind, I can not look at the Box Art for Pokémon TCG's bottom right corner without reading the words "Incel Limited Edition" instead of "Incl. Limited Edition".
>using save states on the elite four You know... they let you save in game between matches. When they ask you if you'd like to prepare, you can write to the diary. You don't actually have to start over from scratch if you lose a match.
You beat them with Matthew's deck... But what about Imakuni's deck? Include a rule forcing you to use his special Trainer Card and... Only downside is that outside of trading, you can only get 2 out of the 4 Imakuni? cards you'll need.

There’s no point in making you waste time and suffer…… if you need to use save states then you go ahead. The point is “can this deck win” not “final destination, no items, no hit, iron man”.
Rhyhorn is a Ground-Rock (not Rock-Ground) pokemon, so the card creators figured it was more of a ground type, than a rock type, so they gave it a Lightning resistance like all the pure ground type pokemon.

Love the fact that you’re doing challenges on the TCG Gameboy game, which is one of my favourites of all time. Also, your videos are super entertaining and funny. Looking forward to more!
I mostly play MTG but I enjoy your challenges so far. Your stall strategy from the last video against Ronald was genius. I love this b/c you have to come up with ideas based on what you have against an AI that's 20 years old yet still can be pretty challenging. I look forward to more
Thank you! Yeah those sacred “legendary cards” really aren’t too intimidating with good ol’ Ronald at the helm.
My man, this game is underated AF
I Hope your vids give these games new life
Ever played the sequel? It's amazing, even better than this if you can believe it.
Haha me too! It’s working so far. Multiple people have told me they got back into it from these.
I always thought it would be cool to see which decks could beat the game. Imakuni comes to mind first. I wonder if there are any decks where it is physically impossible to win?
Unless you specifically set yourself up for failure, maybe. I can’t remember if there are Pokémon who can’t deal any physical damage in this. Then you could use one of those and 59 energies.
Porygon!
Subbed. I love this game and youre very entertaining yourself! Thanks for the content.

DORO MONSTA CARDO!
To be fair, you aren’t a fraud because you’re still using the same cards so its fair game. Nice vid too!
Okay, "Comment down below if you think I'm a fraud!" is one of the best calls to action I've seen on RUclips.
Thank you for the video. That ending. XD
18:01 killed me as much as you lol
omg i love that dream theater easter egg in the end
What cards do you think could improve this deck without losing the basis of the theme?
Savestates? Fraud? Nah, you're just entering a variety of parallel universes, where you happened to win every match in a row :)
I really like your storytelling and video style, this is great
Geodude going rage mode was my favorite part 🤣🤣
You can save in between each match anyway iirc, you just say your deck isn't ready and then select save from the menu, if you lose just reload, it's fine
