    This video is a couple years old now, but I thought I’d comment for research. The Stryd training programs are all TIME based, not distance based, which threw me off my typical run plans. I used to run loops because I know the local mileage, but after getting the Stryd it forced me to start running out-and-backs (instead of running an 8-mile loop and ending up back at my house, I now run 30 minutes out, turn around and run 30 minutes back because Stryd doesn’t give you distances to run, it gives you time, and I never knew where I was going to end up on a loop if I stopped at a certain time instead of a certain distance.)

      It's helpful for just about any style of running. It's basically a more quantifiable way to measure how your performance is increasing over time. Does this actually work if you just start a normal running session from the Apple Watch activities option? or do you need to record a running sash from the stryd app on your Apple Watch? cut if its the latter it does not seem to record a actual workout session on your Apple Watch and I like to close out the rings on my Apple Watch. because I don't think I can have the stryd app running on my Apple Watch the same time and record a session and have the Apple Watch default running workout running at the same time. Does Stryd improve GPS / distance / pace accuracy? I’m struggling to get accurate and reliable Distance and pace data as I’m running in a urban environment with tall buildings and other obstacles with up to 10% variance on distance and as result on pace! Although I am keen on running with power as a concept and the other running dynamics this product may offer , the main reason I would like to consider it is accuracy on the other running metrics . You cannot have a GPS watch that doesn’t give you accurate pace !!!

    Stryd updates ios stuff asap, but I love the way it shows stuff on the garmin. It seems way easier to see the power levels for each step/stage of the workout. On apple watch, I don't think it shows all the stages and power levels at the start, and then it doesn't show the target power while you're running. I have to memorize it beforehand from my phone.

      Free or not - their RSS based training plans are a huge fail if you try to use them on technical trails (or even paved roads) with significant altitude changes.
      They don't factor in the gross impact of Altitude/Oxygen on CP - which is a huge defect in the calculation of the resulting RSS and any other metric derived from CP.
      "What Stryd Is All About: Setting The Fastest Known Time Up Mt Antero (14,276 feet)"
      That was the Stryd blog I read that got me interested in Stryd. Nowhere in the advertising did they disclose that the process included having to use a spreadsheet to determine Joe's "target range". They imply something that their product doesn't do.

      If you use the Stryd app for Garmin there is an audible alert when you leave the desired power zones. If you're only using the data field I don't believe there's an alert.

      it's true it's expensive but it's worth the price. Precision increase is huge, especially when the GPS is difficult to catch and the watch would suddenly show you a plus 2 minutes pace to your actual pace, plus all the other information and stats provided by Stryd (if you like stats) plus the power based trainings and "style" of training. But yes, it costs a lot... It's an investment I don't regret, after using it now for a few months.

      Fortunately for us it's free until Mid-2021 so you can enjoy the perks without paying any money. Stryd told me that they're still deciding on what it will cost based on the feedback they get from users. I still use android! I have both now. The pod itself is a steep investment. IMHO they should give us and new buyers the first year free and beyond that I’d want to pay $2.99 / month with a discount if purchased yearly. We all have plenty of other subscriptions going and I’d like to see Stryd price this competitively to get a lot of users and keep the business initiative running. Pricing too high, although I appreciate the value of the data, might be unappealing altogether once you factor in the cost of the pod.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад

      For sure! I'm glad they're doing a trial period. The way Stryd explained it to me is that they want feedback from their customers before they come up with a pricing strategy. Hopefully they listen!

      The good news is that there isn't a subscription yet... It's 100% free for now. Stryd only mentioned that someday they might add features and make it a subscription based option. Hope that helps.1

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +2

      I don't think that's the case. The difference is that Stryd develops their own app for Apple's app store and Garmin's Connect IQ store so they're able to modify it and develop things as they please. Coros will need to develop these features to integrate with stryd since they don't have an "app store" per say. Thanks for watching!

      @@ChaseTheSummit There are individuals who had power based running plans on Training Peaks with their own Garmin fields that pull power zones from TP for some time now (80/20 Running - Matt Fitzgerald). Steve Palladino (I think is his name) has had power plans as part of the 3P project or whatever on Final Surge. I actually discovered him from Stryd videos... So yea, underwhelming to say the least. I'm hanging up my Stryd for a bit and am going to give the HRM Pro a whirl.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +1

      I think Stryd is just trying to become more self dependent. Seems like a good move for them if their plans work out. I like how easy it is to set up rather than the somewhat overwhelming process with Training Peaks. The good news is its free for now so we can all decide if it's worth paying for or not in the long term. Thanks for watching.

    How would this work if you just started running with no running data? How does it establish your base for training?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 года назад

      Once you have a few runs in with the Stryd pod it will learn your fitness level and cater a training plan around that.
