- Escape to Scotland with us! In this vlog we start our 10 day family trip to Scotland, driving over 500 miles from Kent to rural Aberdeenshire to start our summer family holiday. Plus I share our first day exploring the area around Alford and Inverurie and a house tour of the beautiful Airbnb we’re staying in!

I've just found you on RUclips and have been binge watching both your channels. I'm really enjoying them and I especially enjoyed this one as I'm originally from Fife (now living in Australia), and was so happy to see the part in your vlog when you drove over the new bridge into Fife. Your mum and I are both Fifers! 😊 Your holiday home in Scotland was absolutely beautiful. Your room alone would have been big enough as an apartment!
I also love that you fund raise for Chrohns and Colitis research. My mum had ulcerative colitis in her 20's (including when she was expecting me). After surgery she never looked back. She eventually trained as a nurse specialising in counselling C&C patients pre-surgery. She also held a monthly support group for sufferers of these diseases. She was recognised for all of her efforts by the Queen back in 1986 and was awarded an MBE. We are all very proud of her.
Looking forward to catching up on all of your other videos on both of your channels although this might take me some time to get through! Good job I have a heap of knitting to do while watching. 😉

When I was sick for so many years people like her really saved me, I’ll be forever grateful for my own IBD nurse who I still remember so well. I had UC through both my pregnancies, it’s so hard. Hi everyone I absolutely love Scotland whatever the weather, I have driven up on many occasion and leave as early as possible. I doubt you will suffer any noise pollution where you are, so peaceful you can 'think straight '. Thanks for letting us join you, brought back some very happy memories. Only downside is 'the midges'. What a lovely cottage, hope you have an amazing week. We live in Central Scotland and regularly cross the Queensferry Bridge to visit our son and family. My sister lived in Inverurie for years. It was lovely to see your journey on film. Has Pheobe tried wrist bands and Kwells for her car sickness. As a life long car sickness sufferer I can now travel without being sick.

Hi Ali ,I'm Scottish and haven't been home to Hamilton for over 2 years so when you crossed the border and cheered ,I shed a wee tear or two as that's what I always used do when we saw the Welcome to Scotland sign....I still do it myself even though all my boys are grown up now! ...Inverurie is where my childhood friends live too! ...thank you for this wonderful vlog!

My husband and I are so enamoured with Scotland. I’ve been Edinburgh but after watching Secret Scotland with Susan Calman we just want to explore the whole of Scotland. It is so beautiful. And your accommodation is fantastic! What a place to stay. ❤️😊

Had I put my brain into gear the reason we go up the A1 is it has better stops for our three boys ( four legged variety 🐶) the new one at Wetherby has a proper doggie walk.. I am a wheelchair user and unable to share the driving so have many hours to while away with my crochet and catch up on my RUclips videos. With kind wishes Pamela

Gorgeous cottage and scenery. Envious of your trip. I come from Fife but now live in the South West and haven’t braved a visit home since COVID - soon, very soon. Hope you have good midge cream for those damp days staying by trees! Labyrinth is one of our favourite games. Have a restful trip.

Gorgeous holiday home! I love what we would call the “creek.” My great aunt had one running alongside her house when we were little. We used to play in it. It was soooo cold 🥶. But we loved it! They also had blueberry bushes. And a cat called Tinkerbell. 😊 Good old days.

What a lovely spot! 😍 The sound of the creek is lovely. I could sit outside and listen to it all day.
I laughed so hard at the "two legs longer on one side" joke as my Dad made up the most amazing story about "side-hill warblers" that included so much actual science that my pre-teen self thought it to be true. They also had one leg longer than the other as they lived on Buck Mountain (really just a hill) and always walked around it counter-clockwise due to the Coriolis effect... 🤣
😅😅😅 Aw!!! Your dad sounds brilliant telling you that story! I’m love it 🥰 It was my uncle that always taught us about the wild haggis, he still swears it’s true 😄

Another great vlog, I've been looking out for it for what feels like ages I live about 10 miles from Glasgow and I still find the beauty of Scotland breathtaking. You shouldn't put down your drawing of the cottage, it was lovely, I would be happy to be able to draw half as good as you do. Looking forward to the next instalment of your scotland trip.

Where in Fife was your mum born? My parents were born & raised in Kirkcaldy in Fife. They immigrated to Ontario, Canada (61 years ago) where I was born. I love going back to Fife to visit my relatives and enjoy the beauty of Scotland. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Hi Janice! My mum was born in Newburgh :) Funnily enough they also emigrated to Canada (Toronto) when she was a child but they came back after two years and settled in Aberdeenshire 🏴

I don't think I can adequately express how jealous I am that you can just *drive* to Scotland - I'm from the other Perth, and if I drove nine hours, I'd still be in Western Australia (either half way up, or two thirds across, with like, five towns on the way). We visited Scotland for a couple of weeks in Jan 2019, and I literally cried as we left, knowing how unlikely it is that I'll ever get back (edit: and that was before covid!). I love mountains, and the cold, and it felt like my heart had come home. I hope you have a wonderful rest of holiday - thanks for sharing it with us!
Wow! It blows my mind how enormous Australia is, I’d love to visit some day. My dad loved Australia so much he considered moving there at one point! But I feel the same about Scotland as you do ❤️

Honestly - I’ve found it a TERRIBLE website. Strange and nasty people charging sky-high prices for properties in awful conditions.
And 70% of the reviews I’ve seen for various places are extremely negative.
