  • Pasijah and her family have lived on Indonesia's most populated island, Java, for over 20 years. They are in one of the worst hit villages on the country's 80,000 kilometer long coastline. Rising sea levels and land subsidence have forced 500 families to relocate inland in search of higher ground. Only three families remain. Twenty years ago, the family’s home was sat over five kilometers from the shoreline, and surrounded by agricultural land and neighbors. Now, it is being swallowed by the sea in what was once a prosperous and fertile agrarian region, a land mass equivalent to over a thousand Indonesian Farms has disappeared.

Most land does not sink. What is happening here is the ocean level is rising.

I’m also from Canada but far from Rich by Canadian standards. I live below the Canadian poverty line in a wealthy country. But this is honestly horrible. When clean water is something you fight for and your home is constantly flooded nobody should live in these conditions.

... I'm not rich either - by CANADIAN standards ... but we're STILL not dealing with what ordinary Indonesians deal with ...

Parts of Jakarta sink up to 25 cm annually because of excessive groundwater extraction and urban development, Airlangga Hartarto, the coordinating minister for the economy, said.

... First comment on this video, and I've honestly got nothing worthwhile to say ... As a rich Canadian, what can I say ? No one should have to live like this, and Charity doesn't really do much to help MILLIONS ... This is an Aid issue, and that takes the effort of NATIONS, not just individuals ...

The capital city Jakarta is moving to Borneo or Kalimantan, as it is called in Indonesia. The new capital is called Nusantara.
As far as I can make out, the people must fend for themselves.
No worries regarding aid from abroad as the majority of the Muslim community is wealthy and they have their own charities.

Whether the land is sinking or the water is rising, it amounts to the same thing, and it's horrible. I'm Canadian. I'm far from rich but so much better off than these people. I'm embarrassed to be a part of the America's whom allow this to happen in the world in order for a few to become billionaires. Capitalism has to change or be stopped. It's disgusting.

Where I live climate change has been wonderful. The rising sea level isn't going to stop in the near future. Don't send money to help these people send money to move these people.

It's wild to think the weight of adding humans to a landmass can make it sink

What?????? You are aware that the earth is a closed environment, i.e. more people are created by using more resources the weight / mass is the same (not withstanding Meteors).
