Well, I’m a Baby Boomer, and these songs started hitting the radio when I was in 8th grade. I can remember The Beach Boys, and so many other groups, sending shivers down my spine, vibes into my heart, and fantasies into my mind, all the way through high school. By the end of 1967, I was a Marine in ‘Nam (Vietnam), and those sounds were still coming, and having the same effect on me - heck, on all of us! These songs instantly transported us back home, injecting great joy into our chests. Never again can there be sounds like this again, doing the things those sounds did to us. . .
Major Ronald Mandell Rah! My grandfather was a marine in nam, and my other grandpa was in the army in nam. I plan to join the marines after high school.
Admiral Piet: Like you, my grandfather was a Marine, and well as my father during WWII. Once a Marine always a Marine. I returned from ‘Nam, and wearing my dress greens went to visit my grandfather with my Mom. He did not know who he was, who my mom (his daughter) was, or where he was, but his first words when I entered the room were, “There’s a Marine in his dress greens, and he’s wearing a rifle expert marksmanship badge!”
Admiral Piett: Think twice about joining the Marines because it will change you in ways that your friends and family will regret. Your best friends will no longer want you to date their sisters. You will never be as nice a guy, or as moral a person as you once were, and in later years you will regret this. You will lose much of your compassion, caring, and empathy. Only the very strongest of people can survive the experience intact. I later taught school, and watched some of my favorite students join the Marines, and soon turn into people I no longer wanted to associate with.
Admiral Piett: If you still intend to join the Marines, I would suggest that you start now to steel your mind to resist the peer group pressure to become a drinker, and smoker, and a drug user. You will find the pressure to be very strong. My advice would be to select your friends in the Marines extremely carefully, and never attempt to show off, or impress others, or hang with those who do.
@@Isleofskye no offense to you personally, but it seems to me that those who tend to think such simply have their own modern golden idols, and zealously deny such. sure, the 60s were flawed, what generation wasn't, but well, it's probably healthier in the long run for the national psyche to take some things in life for granted rather than to ruthlessly deconstruct em. as a perhaps more benign comparison, of course the chap who asks you how you are wouldn't want to hear if you were, say for instance, having severe mental health issues. and there's nothing wrong with that, that's just, to use a cliche, but a fairly apt one, the way that things go.

@@Isleofskye fair point, and none taken. i suppose, to me it'd be, for lack of a better word, stable (although perhaps not as much as the 50s.) which i do find to be a good thing generally, as it's very easy to destroy things in this world, but not so easy as to build and maintain things, especially if said things revolve around human society. i recognize it had its flaws, but at the end of the day, i'd rather have something constructed properly for long term use than just takin' the piss outta what came before and never seeming to learn a whole lot. something concrete to cling to in an otherwise fairly chaotic world, if you will. people used to do that with family building, for example. it'd be nice if that lifestyle could be expanded more of the modern populace, rather than just following the wind on whatever new thing gets big because that's "just how it has to be" since apparently cynicism and nihilism wasn't a warning but the greatest thing to aspire to in life. maybe that's just my pessimism talking though.

This song makes me cry every time. It's the perfect "someday I hope to have a happy family and grow old together with someone I love" song. Yet for those of us who wake up alone as adults, man... this can get to you. Feeling like you never quite got there. Wondering if you ever will, and hoping yet doubting at the same time.
Brian’s plaintive wail of ‘wouldn’t it be niiiiice’ at 1:30 and again at 2:00 (nice synchronicity) is the essence of the song. Lots of emotion, reminds me of prime era Perry Farrell vocal-wise
this song reminds me of my grandpa who passed just right before this pandemic happened. he was the greatest and loved me with all his heart. he would do anything just to see me and my brothers after school or for a sunday lunch and his way out of the real world was through this music that he loved. brings back memories i will never forget. i love you grandpa. i hope youre watching me rn and thank you for everything youve done. i promise ill put it i t good use

I was Blessed being Born In 1950 Because I grew up listening to many great songs from different Generations ! I listened to the Great songs of the 40’s ! 50’s and the 60’s ! bout of all these Songs the 60’s were the Best and Amongst the Early 60’s was the Beachboys ! This was One of my favorite ! In My Mustang I would take my Girlfriend and listen to this song On the radio with Cousin Bruce or Scott Muni ! on A M Radio ! God I miss those days !
I used to like this song then my mom made me watch 50 First Dates and now all I can see when I listen to this is Adam Sandler crying in a boat and singing it angrily under tears. FML.
I remember hearing this music in the 70's but disregarded it for classic rock and metal. Now that I'm older, and appreciate music, harmonies, and melodies much more, this song is priceless and timeless.
Oh... The memories I have listening to the Beach Boys as a kid while going to car shows in my grandpas 55 Chevy Belair. He passed in 2020 and I inherited that car. I hope to create those memories with my children and grandchildren someday.
I was 16 when this song came out. I identified so hard with it that it has stuck with me a long time. Im now 69 and still it takes me back to my teen years. You needed to be there to really understand this music. A lot of you have different reactions to it, but you will never know it deep down in your bones unless you lived it. Cars, Surfin, the beach, night parties with sand, fire pit beer, and the kindness and charm of a young girl. (Way before she gets hardened by life) The guys too with war looming. We knew we were all dead. It was coming.
At 73 and a surfer all my life this song warms my heart of a great time to grow up at Jersey Shore and still surfing smaller waves little slower, and rideing my 9.4 Robert August .This song puts smile on my face .Thank You Beach Boys .🎉
Lyrics Wouldn't it be nice if we were older Then we wouldn't have to wait so long? And wouldn't it be nice to live together In the kind of world where we belong? You know it's gonna make it that much better When we can say goodnight and stay together Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up In the morning when the day is new? And after having spent the day together Hold each other close the whole night through? Happy times together we've been spending I wish that every kiss was never ending Oh, wouldn't it be nice? Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray It might come true (run run ooo) Baby, then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do We could be married (we could be married) And then we'd be happy (and then we'd be happy) Oh, wouldn't it be nice? You know it seems the more we talk about it It only makes it worse to live without it But let's talk about it Oh, wouldn't it be nice? Good night, oh baby Sleep tight, oh baby Good night, oh baby Sleep tight, oh baby A like would be appreciated!
not sarcasm!!!!....Longing, A different time entirely....and what amazing composition!I believe one day Brian Wilson's compositions and arrangements will be talked about in the same breath as Bach,or Tchaikovsky.his use of percussion, brass and strings is simply amazing. and then there's those angelic harmonies....,.
It truly is, Han from VI! Honestly, I've been listening to this song for SO much longer! Though, I can only think of that one scene with Adam Sandler on the boat, during 50 First Dates

Prosciutto's "The Grateful Dead" has the ability to age living things in a large area.

I was driving me an an ex back from staying with some friends and i knew she was about to break up with me because she was going to travel to europe for college and we were listening to to a mix tape of our music. When this song hit I broke down while hearing the lyrics. A moment I'll never forget, this song is the happiest sounding sad song ever. Life goes on...

This song reminds me of my high school sweetheart. There was nothing on earth he wouldn't do for me. He graduated high school a year ahead of me, had a good job and was looking at brand new single homes for us. Jeez, I was still in school and it scared me. At Christmas break he gave me the fanciest friendship ring I ever saw, so the rumor went around that we had gotten married over the break. In fact, my English teacher cornered me and asked if it was true and wanted to see this ring she heard all about. She was floored when she saw the ring.
This song is so lovely. I've always loved the 1930s-1960s songs and when I think of this song it makes me have little skit in my brain of my sitting in a blue 67 Chevy Impala and I'm bobbing my head to the music over the radio. This song will always be in my heart.
I'm 16, and this is song is still popular in my school despite its age. Just today I heard this song being sung while randomly passing in the hall. Goes to show how good this song really is.
All y'all out here reminiscing about the memories this band gave you when you were younger while I've just occasionally heard these songs around through my lifetime and I've loved each and every one I've listened to, for such a old band they made good music

Brian’s plaintive wail of ‘wouldn’t it be niiiiice’ at 1:30 and again at 2:00 (nice synchronicity) is the essence of the song. Lots of emotion, reminds me of prime era Perry Farrell vocal-wise
this song reminds me of my grandpa who passed just right before this pandemic happened. he was the greatest and loved me with all his heart. he would do anything just to see me and my brothers after school or for a sunday lunch and his way out of the real world was through this music that he loved. brings back memories i will never forget. i love you grandpa. i hope youre watching me rn and thank you for everything youve done. i promise ill put it i

The perfect "angst of teenaged love" song. Even 60 years later, hearing that songs floods me with joy and with pain.
It makes me weepy.
I remember hearing this music in the 70's but disregarded it for classic rock and metal. Now that I'm older, and appreciate music, harmonies, and melodies much more, this song is priceless and timeless.
Thinking of playing this as our first dance song at my wedding, what do you all think?
If you haven't had it already DO IT
It could induce the maids and men to think about tying the knot.
Have everyone dance in couples that would be dope. It would be like an ending scene to a good 90's movie.

Lyrics
Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long?
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong?
You know it's gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new?
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through?
Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was never ending
Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray
It might come true (run run ooo)
Baby, then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do
We could be married (we could be married)
And then we'd be happy (and then we'd be happy)

One of the characters in Part 5, Pesci, uses the stand "Beach Boy", and is partnered with Prosciutto and his stand "The Grateful Dead". Prosciutto's "The Grateful Dead" has the ability to age living things in a large area.
