Advent calendar I made for a friend who suffers from Seasonally Affected Depression was "Midwinter Salad" - a wall rack with 24 pots of soil and a drip system (you filled the tank and it dripped into each pot - no spills, no mess) with a grow-light above it. Each day had a sachet of seeds to plant, of different varieties of lettuce, salad greens, radishes, cress, and herbs. By Christmas day, the first of the seeds was grown enough to start being edible, and by New Year's Day, she could pick herself a salad every day. I made sure there were enough seeds for things like radishes that she could reseed to last a month. It took time to build, but that was 20 years ago, and the person I gave it still has it and still uses it. She's currently growing alpine strawberries, fresh herbs and 10 different salad greens, so that all through Winter she's got fresh salad and fresh-picked strawberries.
Did the same this year for the first time, since I was looking for something new and special. Now my wife and I enjoy a different cup of tea literally every day. And have still a lot left after christmas :-)
The coffee bags seem like they would also be a really cool way to bring along actual coffee grounds (instead of instant) on camping trips or other holidays - easy to transport, easy to brew. Very cool design!
Taking a little all metal french press or a hand filter isn't really much harder is it? And those are actually made to last for many years. Since the filtering happens somewhere in the pouch I wouldn't be tooo sure about the reusabilty. Maybe if you somehow clean it completely (which might be a nightmare), but I guess the "reusable" thing is more of a nice PR buzzword in this case.
@@stefan514 That's a good point, I haven't seen the inside! I suspect the filter is in the little pour nozzle but obviously don't know that for sure. Was just thinking of needing to be super light/compact for things like backpacking trips. :)
My husband and I watched the coffee calendar being opened, in complete agreement with everything being said. The moment the words “in Denmark” were said I literally yelled out “why don’t we have that!”and ordered it immediately after. Mike: It's really funny, Ebbers is making you work for your advent calendar. Barry: I had to build a tree. The pure loathing on Barry's face cracked me up 🤣🤣
My three year old daughter said at the beginning of the video, "Wow. The Sorted Daddies (that's what she calls you all) must make lots of money because they have to buy a lot of stuff all the time." This made Jamie's comment after the last box even better.
I actually considered buying the Terre Exotique spice advent calendar for my spice-lover of a brother! It looked lovely! But ultimately I went with Terre Exotique spice gift set with those metal tins full of spices that are not very common here in Estonia - ground Szechuan pepper, smoked paprika and Chinese five spice. I think he'll love it!
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative there is also a spice mix and sets with their recipie and description in spicy & co, i bought one for a loved one and it’s amazing!
The idea that you make 2 cups makes me think of a shared breakfast time with your loved one in the morning. Enjoying something new together, an island of precious idyllic silence over a new exotic blend in otherwise chaotic time of the day, what else would you want.
I bought the Candy Kittens advent calendar for my Mom, put it together myself and presented it like a 'ta-dah' moment when she got home! It's a really great calendar and it helps that they put a few extras in so you can still have two per box while enjoying some yourself! Her birthday is this month too so I could even stick extra in that particular day! ;)
The great thing about that spice calendar Ebbers got Jamie is the fact that it doesnt have to be exotic spices, when exotic ideas with common spices also work, which i think is a brilliant idea
Being from Denmark and having coffee lovers for parents, I've bought the Brew company's advent calendar as a present for them for the last 4 years. It's a hit every year
Baz's reaction to Ben opening his calendar on the 16th rather than on the 1st cracks me up!! For someone who can't count, I'm surprised he cares that much!!
The spice one is also cool because say you open your advent on a morning, it can give you ideas for what to have as your lunch/tea time meal! Could make for December being a very fun filled month from trying new foods everyday or as and when :)
My partner and I celebrate the Winter Solstice rather than Christmas, but a friend got us a fabulous advent calendar one year. I've actually seen that brewing method before. They've been sold about for a bit, and they're amazing for outdoors adventures. Like camping or hiking, since they're so compact and so light. Also for people away from home.
I love your holiday review videos. I never did advent calendars as a kid, but this video has me honestly considering getting into the tradition as an adult!
The coffee advent calendar is so great! I never want to commit to a full bag of grounds if I've never tried it before. I'd love to be able to try single cups!
I received the Candy Kittens advent tree myself, personally I got the impression that it should have been assembled by the giver rather than the receiver.
I agree. And I thought an advantage of this calendar is that the giver can customise it. You can put whatever you want in the box - it doesn’t necessarily have to be the vegan gummy🤷🏻♀️
I have been giving my brother and his wife special coffees for Christmas for years. I would have loved to have been able to give the coffee advent to them this year. Maybe it’ll be available next year.
I've used the coffee pouches for camping and hiking for a few years. at about a pound or a pound fifty, they are a nice luxury over instant on the trail.
I disagree with Barry my dad has bought me a DIY advent calendar the last 2 years, and I love putting it together. Last year was a Christmas village, this year a garland. I would be dissapointed if I didn't get to make it.
i used to love the lego advent calendar as a kid. i didn’t put the calendar itself together but got to build something every day (well, every fourth day, i had to share it with my family haha)

My brother got me a whisk(e)y advent calendar one year, and honestly I thought it was the coolest thing. 25 different little 30 mL pours with the last one being a 55 year old scotch. It was super cool, honestly seems like Jamie's kinda box. I definitely didn't drink all of them in December though, didn't want a whiskey every night
I thought all the calendar were interesting but as a mother of 4 the Christmas tree was a wonderful idea. Despite Barry's remarks and I'm surprised since he has a child, it would be such a fun activity to do as a family. My kids would love this and I'm going to find it and buy one ASAP.
my favourite thing about opening each day as a kid was seeing what shape the choc was going to be that day -a santa, a wrapped gift, a star, a tree etc. That was the exciting bit for me! :)
The spice calendar is probably something I would be happiest to receive (or buy) if only it was vegan. SUCH a great way to explore some unique ingredients and *spice up* your cooking game!
Very cool ideas! I do like the idea of the Fortnum and Mason’s Feasting Calendar and using the products at the Christmas meal. The box itself is great for use afterwards too like toys, trinkets or accessories. I notice this Calendar is SOLD OUT, however they have BEAUTIFUL basket hampers which are cheaper. The coffee pouches are great for camping, road trips or going to a destination where you do not have all the modern comforts other than boiling water.

"Tickled your frosted fancy" No Ben no! That is not going to become a thing. That extravagant advent calender is definitely made for a different high end clientele. I mean my God, 200 pounds. That is mad.

I got a Bonne Maman jam advent calender from amazon for £15. Its pretty good so far, 25 different mini pots of jam and it comes with a little tea spoon to serve. I'll probably be diabetic by the new year but it made for a nice change from chocolate! Love your videos guys xxx
I would totally go for the coffee one! I'm usually more of an espresso drinker, but this seems like a fun way to explore the pour over style :) For the third year in a row I've bought myself and my partner the tea advent calendar from Bird and Blend. It tastes amazing every time and the flavours are very creative. The shop originated in Brighton and I found out about them while I lived there, so there's always a big nostalgia factor with it too since I've now moved abroad.
Gotta go with the Coffee Advent box for the win. If there's a choice lover in your life, they'll love this... only 2 cups in each bag, you get a different taste for each day... wonderful!
I don't like coffee and I'm not very confident with spices but I'd say those two are my favourites amongst these. They work with the recipient and lead on to something more if the person likes anything in particular from them. That seems really cool and a lot more interesting than "You like this thing we sell? Great, buy more of this same thing we sell!" It's exploration, a journey beyond the box, and I really like that.
I love the coffee box. Not only do you get premium coffee to try, but the reusability of the pouches is really smart. I see myself throwing a couple in my suitcase when travelling, in my camping supplies, or taking them to work.
In future could you please do these types of video mid November as it's now too late to get any of these and the coffee one would've been a perfect gift for a couple of people.
If anyone see's this and likes the look of the coffee one, there is a 40% off voucher on amazon. No idea where it came from, may be prime, but I ordered it for myself hahaha
May I just say, that egg cracking sound design in the intro is very pleasing to my ears. Every time I hear it - it just does something. I don't know what it is, but it's a good something. 😊☺
Those Brew Company bags have been around for years, but sold primarily at the outdoors stores alongside stuff like freeze dried meal bags etc. GREAT for your backpack.
I live in the States and we do not use Christmas Poppers on Christmas day. However, after spending a Christmas in England with friends, the next year I ordered a BUNCH of Christmas poppers and wrote numbers on them... 1 to 25... and hid them all over the house for my kids to find. They could only pop the one for that day, so if they found 22 on the 16th, they had to keep looking. They LOVED it!! That became our Advent Tradition.
The coffee advent calendar I think is absolutely genius! First of all, it's just great for the variety of coffee. But the big things for me are 1 - that is an AMAZING idea to bring along camping, as having a nice warm drink is perfect, and those bags are a perfect way of doing it. Boil up your water, pour it in the bag and away you go. 2 - with it being reusable, you can continuously use them over and over again. Not just if you camp but if you do any kind of travelling. I used to do alot of working away from home, staying in hotels for 2/3 nights at a time and these would have been the perfect thing to bring along with me rather than the big bag and french press like I had to, taking up unnecessary room. Brilliant idea!
Jamie always seems thoughtful with his gifts, love that! And I loved the DIY calendar, as well as the spice discovery, I don't get why would anyone make the DIY calendar before gifting??? That's like gifting a crossword, but one that you already did!
My wife and I did advent calendars this year. She was raised Muslim so she's never done one, and I haven't since I was a child. We got the David's Tea calendar and the Bonne Maman jam and spread calendar. They are both delicious! We will likely look into the Terre Exotique calendar next year.
I like the coffee one. You get a variety of flavors consolidated for you to taste. Quite useful and affordable when exploring which coffee you'd want to buy more of.
That last one would be great for a Christmas party. Put numbers 1-25 on pieces of paper and have people draw from a hat. What ever number they get is what box they open. 200 for a fun party event is worth it in my book.
Several of the breweries here in Ontario, Canada have partnered with other breweries to offer advent calendars this year ( and some have been doing it for a few years) Each varies with selection, but it’s a great way to get some brews from places you haven’t been able to get to, as well as try different styles of beer. I didn’t get one this year, but they usually retail for $100-250 for 24 beer plus swag from different breweries. One I got for 2019 came with 24 beer, 2 t-shirts, 3 styles of beer glass, chocolates, a toque, coasters and stickers. Well worth it

Sadly too late for the people who I would've bought it for who had November birthdays.
The tree was very creative and hands on, and reminded me of a dalek.
If anyone see's this and likes the look of the coffee one, there is a 40% off voucher on amazon. No idea where it came from, may be prime, but I ordered it for myself hahaha
Thanks 🤩💰☕ just bought it
@@LingLingW Nice, enjoy! looking forward to mine arriving tomorrow
You guys are the best!!! Many blessings from Switzerland ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
This show is why I’m poor, I want to buy all of them…
😂 soz about that.
Mike, that's why you get whole coffee beans and grind them in small or even single batches everyday. It's amazing!
* Ben opens 16th day of calendar * Barry was all of us in that moment. 🤣 (Nice advertising though, Ben. 😁)
Oooooh gingerbread house making and decorating competition!!
The coffee box would be fabulous! A tea box would be another fun one! Happy holidays everyone!
The absolute hate when Ben did the 16th
Idea: release this video 2 weeks before December. When we actually go and buy those.
Can we talk about 17:36 "while you're watching the queens speech"
we fill an old advent calendar with chocolates from a local candy shop. supports local business and brings in some new sweets we dont get very often
Awesome to see Ben review my advent calendar!
Awesome!
That last one would be great for a Christmas party. Put numbers 1-25 on pieces of paper and have people draw from a hat. What ever number they get is what box they open. 200 for a fun party event is worth it in my book.
Several of the breweries here in Ontario, Canada have partnered with other breweries to offer advent calendars this year ( and some have been doing it for a few years)
Each varies with selection, but it’s a great way to get some brews from places you haven’t been able to get to, as well as try different styles of beer.
I didn’t get one this year, but they usually retail for $100-250 for 24 beer plus swag from different breweries. One I got for 2019 came with 24 beer, 2 t-shirts, 3 styles of beer glass, chocolates, a toque, coasters and stickers. Well worth it
"i never buy white pepper but it's different to black pepper" incredible stuff
