    I'm always amazed by how much time you put into sharing your knowledge of knife making, it's a real pleasure to watch you at work, but so much more to hear you explain why things are done in a certain way. Many craftsmen want to keep a lid on their skills to have an edge on the competition, but you are clearly happy to share all you know, and I'm willing to guess you've had your fair share of ups and downs as you've progressed in your career. I'm starting my first build, and you are my go to on RUclips, I try to take all your advice on board but obviously adapt it to my limited skill set and equipment, so it's great to reference your earlier posts when you used basic diy machinery. Thanks and much appreciation, Richard.

    The fact through watching Sandys videos, and the quality of his workmanship. ....I'm still amazed at the cost of a Jacklore. .......if you consider other handmade bushcraft knife makers.....A Jacklore is a bargain for the work that goes into it.

      Yeah I still use the axminster especially when on the grinder but sometimes when doing quiet work like hand sanding I prefer the normal masks as they don't make any noise.

    So, one of the things I've been trying to figure out, is how to properly drill the pin holes on a tapered tang. I see you drill them first in the tang while it is still flat, then after they are tapered you lay them on top of an unshaped scale... but this means that the holes in the tang are now slanted at an angle. ...So, you just clamp and drill through again anyway? And it's OK ending up with over sized tang holes? I guess you just make sure they are filled in with epoxy and it's good?

    • @fnordfnordsson4385
      @fnordfnordsson4385 3 года назад +1

      That's what the little spacers superglued to the end of the scales were for. They lift the end up so that the tang is dead straight again, and everything is drilled true.

    • @LastBastian

      @@fnordfnordsson4385 Ok, I didn't catch that. I think I get the concept. Thanks!

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan 7 лет назад

      Hi Todd,
      It's a cheap saw but works ok if you fit good blades. I have had it for 5 years now and still OK.

  • @esnyd
    @esnyd 6 лет назад +1

    I do have a question, maybe I missed it. Do you drill the holes in the tang slightly larger than the holes in the scales to accommodate for the angle of the pins relative to the tang?

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian 6 лет назад

      I came here trying to figure that out, and noticed that too. I can't tell if he starts out using a slightly larger bit for the tang holes, or if he is just drilling through them at the altered created when he lays the tapered tang on the flat scale? Have you figured out how this works yet?

    • @castledomeknives9395
      @castledomeknives9395 5 лет назад

    • @fnordfnordsson4385
      @fnordfnordsson4385 3 года назад

      There's no angle - the little spacers glued to the scale bring the tang true.

      Kim Bullock. I don't know a lot about making knifes, but what is and what's the purpose of a tapered tang.
