Could you show your steps with a partner at the end?

    Excellent video! Thanks again!
Just one comment, Bonus is also called boomerang in some places :)

Hi Miranda, yes that's right! However a year or so ago, the Brazilian Zouk Council made a decision to just call it "Bonus". They are trying to standardise the terminology around the world. Another was the "Elastico" which was also known as the "Rau" (which I was told actually is from the male name like 'Ralph', meaning vomit!) or "ragdoll".
Personally, I think that if the Bonus is led followed by a turn-collect, that sequence should be called the boomerang - with the follower going and then coming back. What do you think?

@@noleadernoexcusesfollow-al3876 I wasn't aware they did that! Well, they need to have a better way to spread the word around if its to stick. Personally, I am fine with whatever name as long as it's consistent if it's a good name that is meaningful relating to what the move actually is I prefer that the most. For that reason, I prefer boomerang since it made a lot of sense to me. I don't really know what "Bonus" means so I don't prefer it at the moment but I heard it before (from Kadu and Larissa). Do you know what Bonus means?
Yea, if that's what Rau means it needs urgent changing name X'D. Elastico is good in my opinion.
Again, thanks for the videos and the insightful comments about names, how Zouk is evolving, etc! Very useful. For the subscription thing, have you considered making yourself a facebook group? My dance student group has both a facebook and youtube profile. Might be useful for you ;)
      Great work! :D

@@brandomiranda6703 thankyou! From what Kadu & Larissa said in a teacher's workshop I did (and hopefully I remember correctly!), the Bonus was actually taught to students as literally a "bonus" move when they had learned the other foundations.
I think of the last "pivot" part as being a 'bonus' quarter turn - this is the bit that feels counter intuitive to beginners because it's moving away from the leader rather than towards him.
Also, in another workshop I did earlier this year, William gave an explanation I hadn't heard before. He said that if we think of our Zouk footwork being a series of 3 steps (boom chick chick), on each triplicate, the foot that starts in front, ends in front (think lateral). So in the Bonus, the second triplicate ends with the right in front, facing the leader and that's how we get the pivot step at the end of the line.
and yes I do have a facebook group! Here's the link xx

Which teachers teach this variant of boomerang? It's rather different to lead than all the other variants I have seen

Hi Lynoure, I first learnt this "boomerang" (now called "bonus") from Kadu and Larissa a number of years ago and also from Alisson Sandi. From what I know, the foundation footwork has the 5 steps down the line with the 6th being the pivot back towards the leader. I know that more often a lunge on the 6th step is led - is that the variant that you think is more common?

Thank you for your reply, and also for your videos!
It's the 4th half-turn that makes this one boomerang/bonus different than what I've ever seen before and also what makes a difference for the leader by requiring them to keep their arm up longer to let the lady turn one more time. I would say the most common two are the one shown at ruclips.net/video/0_y-Q_fz-xI/видео.html (with twist) and the one shown e.g. at around 0:15 in ruclips.net/video/U3Oli5HhkmI/видео.html (back and back)
The end of bonus has so many possible variations (twist, back and back, body wave...) and sometimes leaders give the lady the freedom to choose, so I'm not thinking of that part at all.

@@lynoure Thank you for bringing this up! I was wondering about the 4th 1/2 turn variation as well, so this addendum discussion was really helpful for me to distinguish how 3 half turns vs 4 half turns plays out.
