An extremely popular raga, Jhinjhoti has two versions. One is serious with movements emphasizing the upper tetrachord and is a favourite with singers from the dhrupad tradition. The other one, despite its movements in the middle or lower octave, flaunts a lively persona preferred by khayal and lighter genres of music such as thumri, ghazal etc. The Carnatic version of Jhinjhoti, though similar to Cenjuriti, it is very different in its exposition.
Jhinjhoti derives from Khamaj thaat, its jati is sampurna with Ga (3rd) as the vadi swar or the dominant note and komal Ni (flat 6th) as the samvadi swar or sub-dominant note. It deploys komal Ni in both the ascent and descent and rest of the swaras ar shudh or pure. Its arohana and avarohana are as follows:

Its intrinsic mood of surrender can be interpreted both as devotional and romantic.

Debasmita has an incredible feeling on those slow tempos. A lot of subtlety and inspiration. Tabla could have been a little softer and better at respecting her rendering.

In Tamilnadu we call it Senjurutti
Kerala it is Chenchurutti
Andhra Pradesh,Telangana and Karnataka is Janjuti
