When I make masks, I cover them with clear packing tape after I stamp but before I cut them out. This makes them stronger and impervious to the ink stamped over them and they last a lot longer. I just wipe them over after each stamping and they are ready for the next placement.
Jennifer ~ I just struggle so much with masking and just can’t seem to pull it off. I think this video is the most helpful one I’ve ever seen on this technique. I cannot thank you enough for your clear explanations - I think I just may be able to finally attempt this now! You are so creative and talented. Thank you for your time and treasures you give to all of your subscribers. You are very much appreciated!
Thank you Jennifer for 4 terrific cards, each one great in their own way that it makes it difficult to choose a favourite. I can decide between the doggies and the beautiful butterflies because i would be greedy and choose both. Thank you for showing us your beautiful work, they are all stunners that anyone would be over the moon to have upon their mantlepiece.
Another wonderful video that shows your creative genius side . I am sure that I am not alone to thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas that are presented in easy to follow videos. Thanks for sharing.
I have started saving myself a step while I watch your fabulous videos. I open you tube in one window, Simonsaysstamp and amazon in 2 more windows. That way as I watch your videos, I can just stop the video and shop for all the cool things that you have found just for me. I'll get the acrylic frame tomorrow, and several other items soon (like the new gina k ink and the removable labels.) I think you read my mind. You are working on the answers to my problems before i know i have any. thanks so so much for all you do. hugs, treen
Jennifer, this is brilliant! I have often thought the matching dies would make masking easier but the border around the image made me decide not to do it. I just needed to hear you say, “drawing in that tiny line is easier than fussy cutting...”. So true. I don’t have a stamping tool but the more I see, the more I think I might have to get one. Thank you for the inspiration ❤️
Jennifer, I never cease to be amazed at your creativity, patience, and the beauty you bring forth. The flower and butterfly cards are beautiful, and the puppies are darling. Paulina's happy mail set is too cute. I may have to get that. [Sigh] You bring us so many nice things. Do you ever get to use products like stamp sets, embossing folders, and dies more than once? Do you ever purge your stock? If so, when and to whom?
What a wonderful technique this is-engineering skills at work here! Your coloring is beautiful and I love watching your technique. Again, love watching your videos bc of all the tips you pack in! Beautiful cards that emulate the beautiful person inside ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Oh wow...soooo glad that I watched this video (of course I watch all your videos but) to see your die snippers...I just purchased the Happy Jig By Memory r us and it came with a wire snipper just like your's...so I just tested it and it snips the wires PERFECTLY...so now the happy jig is serving 2 purposes so well worth the money now..THANKS JENNIFER!
As one who has dexterity and strength issues with her hands, I can't tell you how much your videos help me to be a more efficient crafter....means a lot Jennifer! Not only that (and I'm sorry to repeat the same comment so many times), your cards are always so stunning! Thank You!
Wonderful instruction! I love the idea of using the masks to layout the scene. I have really been enjoying these technique tutorials. Thank you so much!
Awesome cards. Thanks for the masking tips. It does make it easier to use the dies. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing. Have a happy Mother's day.
I really struggle with masking and having the card come out as I envisioned so the idea of creating a guide with masks is so brilliant! Love all these cards too :)
Thank you for your awesome inspirations! Watching this made me realize that using my Scan N Cut 350 would work perfectly for cutting out the masking pieces, as it gives you the choice of cutting the images right along the outline of the stamp or with an edge. This is also perfect for stamps that I don’t have coordinating dies for.
Your cards are gorgeous, I love them and am definitely getting some adhesive sheets to help with the masking. Thank you for once again giving us useful tips and techniques. Love you work.
Beautiful cards as always. I learn alot watching and listening to your videos. You are very good at instructing, but very talented as well. Thank you for a very informative tutorial.
I have shied away from masking because my few attempts have been less than stellar. I really appreciate your video today, using a panel to plan out your masking is going to be extremely helpful! Thank you so much, you are the best.
I love the effects you can get with masking. However, it never occurred to me to use the mask to set my scene for my cards. Thank you for sharing this great technique. I am sure I will be using it a lot in the near future. Have a blessed day.
Gorgeous cards, Jennifer! Thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks with us...I love masking, but hate fussy cutting, so your technique is very helpful! By the way...Your Copic coloring on all of these images is amazing!!!
Thank you for this video. Up till this video, masking has been very confusing to me. I am now confident and believe that I to can use masking in projects.💟 BTW...beautiful cards. I especially love the puppies and the butterflies. Just because the puppies are cute and the butterflies are beautiful. Thanks again ❤❤❤
These are fabulous cards! I appreciate you showing your favorite copic colours. Due to the price, I have been reluctant to buy any, not knowing where to start. Jeannine
With the extra sticky mask you could die cut more of the stamped images, then you wouldn't have to move so often. But then it doesn't take much to confuse me. I love all of your work. I was a big fan back when you worked for Creative Keepsakes magazine. I miss the publications. Keep inspiring us to create.
These cards are so pretty! As always, thanks so much for sharing. I have to say, I'm actually surprised that with as many stamps that have coordinating dies, some people are still fussy-cutting. I use my coordinating dies for masking. Yes, those pesky spaces are a little annoying, but what you all can do is take the coordinating mask and line the edge up with the lining of the stamped image. Thanks again!!!
The coordinating dies are generally so expensive. If the images are simple and not real detailed, fussy cutting saves quite a bit of money. If your not on a budget like so many of us are, then yeah coordinating dies are the way to go.
Way before I discovered die cutting (for the past year), I had to cut out all of my stamping masks. A good pair of scissors and a great movie and I was set!
This has been so extremely valuable ! Really love your work and the complicated layered looks you achieve with masking .. and I want to be able to do this as well. Great tutorial .. Thank you so much for sharing these tips for this technique ! : >
I am learning so much from you! I haven’t been making cards for long but because I found your videos early on I’ve become a less timid one. I just got some of the Tim Holts distress crayons...is there a video for these? Have a blessed day and thank you again.
You are a phenomenal video teacher, Jennifer. I love how professional your video looks. Would love to find out how and from where you learn to do them so well so I can apply them to my videos (although I have not started to do them yet :). In any case, with regards to stamping, I am currently not a stamper. I have bought hundreds of stamps a long time ago (when I start doing something, I tend to go overboard) but never really took up stamping since I found it difficult to get a good image. I recently heard about the Tim Holtz stamp platform and can't wait to look into purchasing one. I've watched several videos of people comparing Tim Holtz vs. the Misti but I am still undecided (money is not an issue, so the cost does not factor into my decision. My questions to you are: (1) Most of my 400 or so stamps are rubber and wood mounted so they won't fit into either of the stamp platforms. Do you know whether there is a way to remove the wood mount so that I can use them with the platforms?; (2) I do have some unmounted red rubber stamps, but they don't have the image of the stamp on the back, like many of the clear stamps do? Do you have a suggestion as to how I can add that onto the stamps so that I can readily identify them?
As always wonderful tips. Im thinking i better added more post it tape. Lol. Love how u used it to plan out ur design not to mention making a mirror side
As a new card crafter, this video is invaluable. I love Jennifer McGuire's videos. Thank you Jennifer for all you do for us "newbies"!
When I make masks, I cover them with clear packing tape after I stamp but before I cut them out. This makes them stronger and impervious to the ink stamped over them and they last a lot longer. I just wipe them over after each stamping and they are ready for the next placement.
Jenni M great tip!
What a great idea!
Great idea!
Awesome tip thanks!
i have done this - it works great! but if oyu are a messy stamper like me, be careful, i also smear the ink off the masks since it is slick :)
