    Congratulations on slogging your way through that nightmare of a puzzle. 💐 I guess you won't be doing anything like that again! I loathe puzzles with vast amounts of greenery so I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. When you go to Worlds you won't be doing anything bigger than 1000 pieces, what a relief. Have a great time at Worlds and I shall be glued to my computer trying to spot familiar faces.

    Your mindset and approach at the end is the way to go. As you said ‘take away the stress of puzzling’. I like to speed puzzle, do a puzzle quickly, and leisurely puzzle….but every now and then I love doing a puzzle that has a proper image and provides the challenge you had with this puzzle. I take my time, it could be on a board for weeks/months and I may only do 30 or so pieces a day but the sense of peace and accomplishment is fantastic. I just don’t set an expectation at beginning to finish in a certain timeframe and that is the key to enjoying it. At one stage you said you were so proud and you are right to feel pride. Also there was no cheating, using repeat pattern cut is a strategy and building a puzzle is at times a game of strategy. Well done Janette love your videos and look forward to your 6000 😉

    I understand you perfectly. The 5K puzzle is quite a challenge. Especially if you don't have a room of 30 square meters 😉
    Some time ago I started putting together Bruegel's Tower of Babel (also from Ravensburger). It was (still is) kind of a horror story 😄 Instead of putting the puzzle together, all the work was constant sorting. Over and over again.
    Congratulations on your patience. I put my 5K aside for another time, in the meantime relaxing with 1K, 2K.
    I also discovered Art Collection puzzles - even though they are only 1K, the challenge is that each piece is different. No two pieces are the same shape. No regularity. I recommend. Great fun. And some variety from standard puzzles.

    The massive green section would have been a "no-go" for me. I'd look for a different 5k piece puzzle. My first and only 5k puzzle was the one with the different color hues. I was at first reluctant to try it, but the owner who lent it to me said it was actually fun. We gave it a try and to my surprise it was fun! It was amazing to see how the neighboring colors changed our view of whether a piece was more orange than red or more purple than blue, etc. The finished puzzle isquite pretty, but It is not one I would be included to tackle. Glad you could finish it without losing your mind nor suffering back pain.

    Understanding and using the repeat pattern is a great tool for completing a large puzzle, especially for large sections of the same color. I will sometimes build a section on top of a completed section which makes identifying the shape easier. I don’t think this is cheating, but a clever way to deal with difficult sections. Great job!

    Congratulations on finishing this monster (and 5000 subscribers). Just to say I was one who voted for you to mix the bags for the 6000 piece. I voted that way because I think it’s an easier image and you get a bigger sense of achievement. But large puzzles can be quite a bit of pressure and we all get to choose the level of challenge you feel like taking on. It is never cheating! This is a fun pastime that has no rules other than those you choose for yourself (and you can change them as you see fit) . It is not possible to ‘cheat’. I also have the same 6000 piece you have (I was influenced by you) and I’m now currently thinking I will do the bags separately. I have some others that are all in 1 bag so no choice with them, so why not take advantage of how the Mickey one is configured! Good luck at worlds 😁

      @janetteandherpuzzles  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you so much!! 🤗 This comment means a lot! And I have been debating with myself for the longest time if I should mix them or not, because of that sense of achievement you're talking about. It is a big challenge, especially since I don't live alone anymore and I can't just keep my puzzles lying around everywhere 😅 I actually have a plan for Mickey puzzle and I think it's a nice half way point between mixing and not mixing the bags 😉 I will start working on the puzzle once I get home from Spain - well, when Donnalouise leaves (she stays with me for another 2 weeks) 🤩
      Thank you!! 🥰

    Great video!! I admire your determination to finish this giant puzzle! Since most of it was green, it's like you did a 3000 piece green puzzle plus 2000 pieces of sky and water. Wow. Thanks so much for sharing what it looks like when you put one section on top of another for that piece pattern to show through - I can see now why this is a good strategy. This was a huge achievement! Congratulations on your 5k subscribers and on completing this 5k super challenge. As for the next one, 6000 pieces, I support you NOT mixing the bags! Also, may I make a request? Please pick out your own choice of puzzle picture and choose one you love that has many distinct colors and objects and sections etc as it's both more enjoyable for you and more enjoyable for viewers (me) to watch. Sorry this comment is so long - you're video was inspiring!!

    I just got done with a 5k (Monte Fuji by Grow), and not doing all the "easy" enjoyable part at the beginning really helped, I knew once I was done with the flowers, I would have a lovely gradient sky that motived me.
    Sometimes, doing the other way helps and reminds that the enjoyable part it's to come.
    I always do it in sections since I don't have the space and that helps since it's only 1500 pieces to go

    I think this puzzle is a great example how a pretty picture doesn't always mean enjoyable puzzle. Because the picture is gorgeous, i understand why your dad picked this. But as an 1000 or 1500 this could be fine. Sometimes I wonder why puzzle companies even release some pictures as a giant puzzle, because i think they are not fun to assemble for most people. Like having a third of just sky or city lights or water or greenery. More colourful giants in smaller bags, please! 😊

This is an activity we do to enjoy not to torture ourselves. I cannot understand why would people mix separate bags. The separating pieces and sorting is not even enjoyable or a fun purt of puzzling. • @janetteandherpuzzles
      @janetteandherpuzzles  4 месяца назад +1

      I would normally spend that much time on a 1000 piece puzzle too, but when I'm recording, I take a whole day just to puzzle. And if I don't finish, then I continue the next day. That's why I manage to finish the puzzle so quickly 😊 I think I became a lot quicker since I started speed puzzling, because it used to take me 3-4 hours to do a 500 piece puzzle 😅 But puzzling is not about speed (unless you attend the competition), so however long it takes you it doesn't matter, as long as you enjoy it. And really if you think about it - the longer it takes you to put a puzzle together, the more fun you get out for the same price 😂

    Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 that's such a huge achievement. I personally don't think would be able to do such big puzzles coz I hate sorting. All I wanna do is puzzle. The biggest single bag puzzle I've done is 2k pieces and the image was waaaay easyer than this and very sorta le and it took me 2 hours to sort it and after first hour I already wanted to give up 😅. The perseverance is amazing coz that huge green section looks like hell. I recently got 13.5k puzzle and it comes in 1.5k bags and I wouldn't even think to mix it up especially coz the cut pattern repeats. I wonder if they could make the pattern completely unique for this puzzle just coz the image at the bottom is so samey it's easy to put wrong pieces.

    • @janetteandherpuzzles
      @janetteandherpuzzles  4 месяца назад +2

      Thank you so much!! 🤗 I completely understand you - I don't like sorting either, it just takes too long and you have no satisfactions from it 😅 What I started doing and I find it very beneficial is, to do a quick sort first, and then detailed sort only for the area I'm working on. It's easier to sort once you know the details and the textures of the puzzle, and it also makes the initial (first) sorting much quicker and easier 😁👌🏻 I wouldn't dare to mix a 13.5k puzzle!! I have a 9k at home also in 1.5k bags and won't mix that 😅 I'm sure they could, but it feels like it would just cost too much money unfortunately 😬

There are no puzzles made for all numbers (couldn't find any 7k, and the only 8k I found was Educa, which I will not be doing! 😅). I already have my 9k puzzle and the rest is still open and up for debate 😁

    I'm not sure I would even attempt this one. Generally, I don't care for landscapes unless it's colorful artwork, no photographs. The Educa Life puzzle is tough enough! Some days I worked on it for hours and got less than 100 pieces in. But, I'm almost done with the third section, so I'm sure it will all be worth it once I'm done with the whole thing.

      I wouldn't if it wasn't a gift 😅 You're good for tackling the Educa puzzle - I find their cut very difficult with mostly ribbon grid cut pieces. I hope you're enjoying the puzzle and I'm sure it'll be worth it when done! But also remember, if it's more stress than joy, don't feel bad if you never finish it 😉

    I wonder if Janette has gotten the term ribbon cut wrong, as ribbon cut, from my understanding represents a jigsaw puzzle where the pieces are in horisontal and vertical lines, as opposed to random cut jigsaw puzzles where that is not the case. I wonder if Janette are refering to jigsaw puzzles with mainly just one type of puzzle pieces (two prongs on opposing sides, and to inns on opposing sides) as ribbon cut. European brands, like Ravensburger, are generally ribbon cut, in other words, has horisontal and vertical lines in their puzzles.
    Also, I kind of feel bad, she using 58 hours on a 5000 piece puzzle, and I just completed a 1500 piece Ravensburger puzzle, and used 43 hours on it. Quite a difference between a speed puzzler, and myself.

    • @janetteandherpuzzles
      @janetteandherpuzzles  4 месяца назад +1

      Oh sorry, I'm not familiar with all the terms, because is Slovenia we actually don't have any other than ribbon grid cut puzzles. So yes - when I say ribbon grid I mean two prongs opposite each other! 😅🙈
      The times are very much irrelevant - the only reason I timed myself with this puzzle is because I needed to know when I reached the 5h limit for the week. And I have also been using the piece cut pattern, which split my time into half at least! 😁

    I'm embarassed to admit that after all this time I never knew of the piece pattern and that it could repeat in puzzles much less in the same puzzle... It makes sense thinking about it but I guess I just never gave it much thought at all... I must say however that I would probably not make puzzle over other pieces because I find it too confusing... I really hyperfocus on lines on the pieces, overall shape and nubs shape and for that I really need a solid color background... I went as far as testing different colors and found out that the plain carton brown is the least confusing to my eyes even when the color of the pieces is brown as well...

    • @janetteandherpuzzles
      @janetteandherpuzzles  4 месяца назад +1

      Nothing to be embarrassed about! I didn't know that either until a few moths ago. It doesn't really happen with smaller puzzles (up to 2000 pieces), so it you don't do giant puzzles you wouldn't be able to even experience that 😊
      It was very confusing for me in the beginning as well, to have the puzzle in the background, but since I only had shapes to help myself, it helped me focus on the shape of each piece 👌🏻 It's interesting that brown is the easiest for you - I tend to prefer white, but it's probably just because I'm used to it 😅

    I do get tired of the snobbery with puzzles. I've said before, until someone can look at say, a 9000 piece puzzle and be able to tell that it was completed without mixing the bags, then who cares???? All anyone does by doing that is add hours and hours to the initial sorting time, and considering that it's already the most boring part of doing a puzzle, why would you want to? Karen Puzzles did that Educa massive puzzle and each bag contained 6000 pieces. That's a massive sort already, no need to make it worse :D

    I think it's healthy to stop and re-assess. And I've loved being here to see your 3k, 4k and now 5k subscribers puzzles, but if that stops being enjoyable for you, don't feel bad if you decide to stop with the 6000 piece puzzle in the midst of the assembly process: be kind to yourself and don't push yourself to be ready on a deadline. It's you channel, you can change your conditions. At this growth rate this will be unsustainable for you otherwise!

    1. Congratulations on completing this terrible puzzle.
    2. You may want to invest in a floor lamp with a daylight balanced light in it to help you on darker days.
    3. It is FOOLISH to mix the bags. They've already been sorted for you. Why waste puzzling time re-sorting pieces. Sorting is preparation time for solving the puzzle. Why waste time sorting any more than you have to? Whether you put a 150 pieces together or a thousand pieces together at a time you're still going to end up putting together 6,000 pieces.
