Politics is so polarizing here in the US. You are brave for bringing it up. I agree with you and plan to vote, of course. Some people will complain about bringing this up on your channel when they were looking for a safe space free from politics. I respect a podcasters decision to do that, but I respect those who weigh in even more. Knitting and Knitters have always had a role in politics, and this year in the US, the stakes are so high. Here’s to hoping your channel does not go dark in November.
I love your channel so much! Thank you for the reminder to vote at the end. It feels like my whole life will go dark if Trump gets reelected, so for those who say politics has no place in knitting or "entertainment," congrats on your privilege.
I’m pretty sure the El Naranjo pattern is part the book Memory Lane which hasn’t been released yet. I had the same confusion as you when I first saw all the patterns hit Ravelry cause they’re all gorgeous.
I really liked doing a cowl as my first stranded colorwork - I learned a lot about colorwork, what I find fun to knit, and what made sense for my skill level. It was nice to have something pretty low stakes, since it only took a few mini skeins.
ALL of The Wandering Flock's bases are supernaturally beautiful. I don't know how they do it. Their DK Merino is softer than some cashmeres that I have, and their laceweight mohair is the softest, non-prickliest I've used. Love them so much
See, as a graphic designer I LOVE selecting colorwork combinations. I have such a hard time knitting in a single color! If that sweater is brioche, Stephen West is your friend. His brioche tutorials got me through my shawl.
I haven't knit a Sari Nordland pattern, but I have watched a lot of knitting podcasters talk about her this summer with the popularity of her Book Club Cardigan. It has been a theme that they have run out of yarn despite buying enough or even extra based on the yardage requirements. If you haven't already, it could be a good idea to check ravelry project page notes to see if 3 skeins is enough. Also, the Simple Thing is a great basic garter scarf template similar to the Sophie Scarf. It's free and easily customizable. I think the el naranjo pattern is from a yet to be published book that Laine is releasing soon ish
New subscriber here, very glad I found your channel 😊 I've been looking at some Sari N patterns as well for my fall/winter knitting but haven't quite decided lol Thank you for your comments at the end of the episode ❤
I knit the collete top in sandness line (cotton, linen, viscole) and was miserable becasue of how little stretch the yarn had while knitting up. Maybe pick a wool/ cotton blend?
What a gorgeous cardigan. I just bought it. Such a relief to see that it's not brioche, it's fisherman's rib, which I hear is much easier. (I've never done either.) Still, you might want to use lifelines until you have the pattern down. (I love that the yarn for your sister's cardigan matches your lipstick!)
The Minou cardigan was my first brioche knitting project and it was way easier than I thought! Loved the pattern and the process 😊 the cables only happen on knit rows and it was easy to memorize. The brioche is between the cables, that's why those stitches are so pronounced!
I think you probably know this, but superwash tends to grow a lot with blocking. I highly recommend you block a relatively sizeable swatch and hang it to dry to make sure you pick the right size for the sweater. For stranded colorwork sweaters, Andrea Mowry also has a bunch that are super cute. I think you might like Illuminate or Pink Velvet. Some of the color choices in the projects on Ravelry are stunning even if you aren't into the designer's own choices.
I knit Colette this year and it’s a super intuitive cable knit! One of the fastest projects I’ve made, because it seems to fly by as you keep working toward the next cable repeat. Go for it!
Just found your video. You remind me of my daughter Melanie. She lives in Mexico. I have never met anyone who can speak as rapidly as she does! Then I found your video. I love it. Besides speaking rapidly she has a very distinct voice. I really like the green color yarn. I am also obsessed with the cable Christmas stockings . I just downloaded the pattern thanks
For bottom up garments, I always place it on waste yarn and block right before sleeve separation to make sure I have the length I want. This works well for me and I. Don’t get any length surprises at the end!
Smart! I guess you have to have a pretty accurate understanding of how the armhole depth and neck are going to turn out and fit on you? It still feels like a lot of variables but maybe I'm overthinking it 😂
You might already know this, but a tip for your mom's ribbon yarn scarf: Once you knit that first triangle (and just before you start knitting the even section, weigh the project. Then you knit until you have that much yarn left over. That's when you start the decreasing triangle at the other end.

Also - my first ever fingering weight cardigan took me about six months...it is my favorite garment that I have ever made, but wow was it a slog to get through. If I may, I highly recommend having a simple stockinette in the round project to go back and forth between the Minou Cardigan. Not only to give your hands a rest but also your brain. Last year was the first year that I did gift knits for my family, and I made a Zipper Sweater Man for my uncle, a ribbed beanie for my aunt, and a knee-length cardigan for my mother. I started in early October and was frantically knitting until the last possible moment on all of these projects. Granted, I was also in graduate school and working part-time, so I didn't have the time I do now to dedicate to more complex projects. You do you, and please be gentle with yourself along the way
