Think whatever you want, but both were very unfortunate in this tournament... Rybakina with the shoulder problem, which she took during the match with Stephens and the super long match with Kasatkina and Samsonova with the two matches, which she played on same day (the one, of which lasted almost 3 hours against Sabalenka)... And now Samsonova has less than 2 hours to rest for the final against rested Pegula... Such a shitty organisation from Montreal, reminds me of the Rome one... First, it should be added that the organization of the tournament and the schedule is a joke. As for the match... Rybakina's first set was very good, then probably fatigue and shoulder problems showed. Elena we love you and congratulations to Samsonova. Good luck!
Had to be bittersweet for Samsonova winning this semifinal against damaged Rybakina but then knowing she only has 1-2 hours to prepare for the final showdown against a well-rested Pegula. Unfair schedule to force back-to-back matches instead of bumping the final to Monday. Yeah we know about schedules to keep and sponsors to obey, etc. but it resulted in a disappointing anticlimactic baguette & bagel loss for exhausted Samsonova. Congrats JPeg but boo Montreal tournament management. Next time buy a roof so you don't have to shove important matches so close together due to rain.
The schedule is all over the place it's hard to follow. Anyhow good to see Samsonova in another finals and a chance to get a singles title for this year. Her road is pretty convincing beating no.2 seed Sabalenka, then Bencic who she lost to earlier this year in a final, and then beating Rybakina. Pegula's road is pretty strong as well beating Gauff and no.1 seed Swiatek. Hopefully it'll be a more exciting final to watch compared to the semis. Btw after the really close and competitive match between Rybakina and Kasatkina ending almost at 3am, seems like Rybakina is just exhausted with shoulder problems and she isn't playing like her in the 2nd and 3rd set of this match. Hope she rests up for US Open.
As a fan of Rybakina, I'm so sad. However, managing both the injury and the mental aspect is crucial, and by surpassing that hurdle, she could go beyond the true "big 3" and potentially become No.1. I'm concerned about whether a complete recovery is possible just before the US Open. I believe the Rybakina we saw in the first set is her authentic self.
It turned out that the section of the draw where Rybakina, Sabalenka, and Samsonova were competing happened to be relatively weak. The winner of the second part of the draw, Pegula, who had endured challenging matches against both Świątek and Gauff, sailed through Samsonova's challenge with ease.

Dead match as expected Rybakina walking dead could clearly withdraw the first set was just a fortunate combination for Rybakina: she could serve and Samsonova couldn’t otherwise would be 2-0 easier. Now she needs to take care of this shoulder because you can see how debilitating it is.

as an Iga fan who acknowledges she had a rough tournament, it gives me some comfort to know her two biggest rivals aren't playing particularly well either😅 no disrespect to Rybakina but if the shoulder injury is that bad she should be resting, not playing.
You seriously think that she would risk shoulder injury right before US Open ? Elena wasn't playing good tennins in this tournament . She hardly pass Jennifer Brady and also had lot of troubles defeating Kasatkina.
@@piqo44It wasn't because of injury. It's because she is weak tennis player. She isn't top 50 worthy player at all. She often loses to much lower ranked opponents or barely defeats them.
Ludmila Samsonova played great and deservedly won this match and she earned her spot in this tournament's Final. It will be her first WTA 1000 Final. Samsonova simply was better than Rybakina. Rybakina was exhausted from her previous match and it showed. But saying that Rybakina lost due to injury or fatigue is just silly. A credit should be given where it's due. And Samsonova played brilliantly. She have very good chance to defeat Jessica Pegula in the Final too. I hope that Jessica Pegula vs Ludmila Samsonova match will be epic. This has been such a weird tournament. In WTA, IGA and Rybakina playing poorly yet getting to semis, top 6 seeds in ATP didn't reach Semis since 2001. Good for Luminda, was painful watching her play poorly and being lost since failing to win the title against Bencic.
Who according to you was playing better ? Jessica Pegula is really lucky in this tournament with her schedule. In semis she played Swiatek who played against Muchova game that was interrupted twice, playing 2 sets early morning and finishing late evening its like playing 2 matches same day, very exhausting mentally. Similar situation with final, she's going to play Samsonova who obviously will be tired after semi with Rybakina
@@piqo44 ok and? Iga didnt do well against Collins. She always played 3 sets against Muchova. 🤷♀️ Pegula doesn't control the weather and she has had consistent results all year - it isnt a random run to the final

Rybakina really played very poorly in this match. In fact, the third and second set may have been her worst performance in her WTA level career. Having said that, she obviously had physical problems preventing her from performing well. She had three consecutive double faults in a game she was leading 40-15 in the second set to gift Samsonova a break. I bet she had never ever double-faulted 3x in a row in her career. I have been watching her matches since 2020 and she rarely ever makes two double faults in one game. That alone would tell you she was playing hampered.

Rybakina is physically tired. She just come off a rigged and heavy draw from Wimbledon, only to have the same scenario in these smaller tournaments. She needs to take time off and prep for the US Open. The draws and schedules are going to be RIGGED there also. I blame her coaching staff, they are the ones who gets paid to look out for her well being.
Despicable organization of this tournament these people should be ashamed. Not a real victory from Pegula imo. We will see what happens over the next few weeks.
The WTA praises itself in its bio's. "Founded by Billie Jean King in 1973 on the principle of equal opportunity, the WTA is the world leader in women's professional sports." In light of the recent mistreatment -- and outright abuse -- of its athletes in Montreal (and past scheduling nightmares this season) they should be ashamed for considering themselves a 'world leader in sports'. Even more, they should be dragged across the court for their silence and inaction in addressing players' health concerns. Instead of watching players grind their bodies into burning muscle masses and suffer unnecessarily to get through a Semi, then a Final a couple hours later, WTA, Billie Jean King, et al, should be placed on their knees at Centre Court to explain their inept and unconscionable behaviors. Where were WTA rep's, the sponsors, and Billie Jean King the other morning when Rybakina and Kasatkina were suffering at 3:00am? Even the ancient Romans realized they had to give some degree of healthcare to their sacrificial subjects if they wanted to present an adequate show in the Coliseum.
rybakina the most overhyped player in wta history , who always loses in big matches especially in finals , she has never learned and she will never learn from her mistakes she makes too many unforced errors , dreadful dropshots , too many double faults , cracks under pressure , can't win long rallies , goes to the net when her opponent is not under pressure , inconsistent , very weak mentally , leads than loses , her serve is easily broken , wastes many break points
Rybakina usually doesn’t double fault. Her aces to double fault ratio is insane considering how low her 1st serve percentage is. This is the most double faults she has hit in a match for years and she STILL hit more aces out of sheer will to win games.
You did it again WTA. From Samsonova winning the second set to match point in the third, well done 👏👏👏

as an Iga fan who acknowledges she had a rough tournament, it gives me some comfort to know her two biggest rivals aren't playing particularly well either😅 no disrespect to Rybakina but if the shoulder injury is that bad she should be resting, not playing.
IMO she should withdraw from Cincinnati. Shoulder injury - even a slight one - is no joke. She should rest, and heal this shoulder before US Open.
@@vojtasjedyny agreed. i like Rybakina a lot but if her serve isn't working than she's screwed.
WTA, can you cut out the slo-mo replays from these highlight clips? So much of this video is fluff that could be showing more crucial points.
Samsonova played good
The organizers could've just handed the trophy to Pegula. Samsonova was HIGHLY disadvantaged. Smh
In such situations the WTA must make it just one set. Whoever wins the set goes to the finals!
The messed up schedule greatly affected Elena. Plus it's obvious that her shoulders is injured.
You seriously think that she would risk shoulder injury right before US Open ? Elena wasn't playing good tennins in this tournament . She hardly pass Jennifer Brady and also had lot of troubles defeating Kasatkina.
@@piqo44dont say the truth, toxic rybakina fans will eat you alive
@@piqo44It wasn't because of injury. It's because she is weak tennis player. She isn't top 50 worthy player at all. She often loses to much lower ranked opponents or barely defeats them. This tournament is highlight of how bad tennis player skillwise Elena Rybakina truly is. The only great thing about Rybakina is her sportsmanship. Overall she is weakling.
What about Samsonova? She had to play Sabalenka and Bencic in one day.
What about Samsonova playing Bencic and Sabalenka in the same day?? Both very long matches too....
Sure wanted you to win Elena. Playing two matching in one day was crazy. Hope your injury is better for US Open. And I hope you all go back to using the womans balls next year on the US OPEN area tour.

The worst thing about this tournament:
(Awful Timing) Even if they made it to the finals, it is kind of certain that they will loose.. And here Samsonova lost in the finals.
Gran partido de Sonsonova👏👏👏
Why again showing from 5:2 from the third set? Editor doesn't know how to edit the video...not just saying from this video, but also from other wta videos as well.
Did just see the Highligts of the last matches. Saw Samsonova as the most tennis-intelligent player for years. Female and male.

I wish to both Jessica Pegula and Ludmila Samsonova best of luck and may the best player win.

Samsonova is a major threat to all the wta top ranking players, ignore her at your own risk !
Looking forward to see more of her...nice to have upsets...boring otherwise.
I think I prefer this arrangement. If iga can’t win it neither can sabalenka not rybakina 🙃🙃
This has been such a weird tournament. In WTA, IGA and Rybakina playing poorly yet getting to semis, top 6 seeds in ATP didn't reach Semis since 2001. Good for Luminda, was painful watching her play poorly and being lost since failing to win the title against Bencic.
Final is only few hours later... That's big advantage for Pegula, not fair 😢
@@deusexmachina9776 I'm not saying that she did not deserve to play final she is WTA 3 so its not surprise. But she didn't play much better than Iga in semis. Beside this is characteristic of world class player, you can get results even though you are not playing your best game.

Inexistante en finale bravo la WTA

Rybakina is physically tired. She just come off a rigged and heavy draw from Wimbledon, only to have the same scenario in these smaller tournaments. She needs to take time off and prep for the US Open. The draws and schedules are going to be RIGGED there also. Despicable organization of this tournament these people should be ashamed. Not a real victory from Pegula imo. We will see what happens over the next few weeks.
The WTA praises itself in its bio's. "Founded by Billie Jean King in 1973 on the principle of equal opportunity, the WTA is the world leader in women's professional sports."
In light of the recent mistreatment -- and outright abuse -- of its athletes in Montreal (and past scheduling nightmares this season) they should be ashamed for considering themselves a 'world leader in sports'.
