I’m very happy that my son is interested in Rice. Very competitive school but looks like you have the “secret sauce” of smart, energetic, kind and commensalistic students that feed off one anothers’ contributions to advance everyones’ interests! The whole is greater than the sum of the parts sort of thing! Very refreshing in such a strong science driven institution! You said in a prior vid that you were more of a noodle girl than a “rice” girl but at Weiss you opted for the rice.😀
I visited Rice in February and fell in love with it, and rewatching all of your videos reminds me why I love it. I’m applying this fall so I’m hoping for the best :)
I’ve been binge watching all your videos! Rice RD decisions come out in a few days and I’m really really hoping to get in since Rice has been my dream school for 4 years :)
Nice to see parts of the campus again. Really miss going there as a parent volunteer. I saw that a friend of yours is named Isaiah. My son is also named Isaiah. Rice grad (Martel '18). Can't wait to be able to go to campus again.
What are the dorms like? I've heard that some are pretty old and have doubles and communal bathrooms, whereas newer ones have singles, ac/heating, and private bathrooms. Is that accurate? What's the ratio of old to new buildings?
Even though my daughter will probably not choose Rice if she is accepted, I "Subscribed" just because I love your personality! I think you have a wonderful Spirit! My daughter's top 10 choices in priority are: Stanford, USC, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Rice, Caltech, MIT, Harvey Mudd, and the U.S. Naval Academy. My daughter's 2nd choices would be in not any order are: UCLA, UC Berkeley, Cal State Long Beach, Dartmouth, Cornell, and lastly NM Tech (because we live in New Mexico). My daughter wants to get a BS degree in Biomedical Engineering and/or Computer Science. She's in the 10th grade but is taking 12th grade classes and college level classes at San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. She has a 4.2 high school gpa, has received all "A"s (except for a "C" in 'Trigonometry & Pre-Calculus' because of COVID-19), and hasn't missed a day of school since kindergarten. She is half Navajo, and half Chinese/Filipino. She is 16 years old. We live in Shiprock, New Mexico. God bless you at Rice, and your future endeavors!
@@nathanaelsapp1225 Thank you! My daughter cannot choose Rice, because Rice doesn't fully accept dual credit college courses taken by my daughter while she is still in high school. Their rule is generally, they do not accept dual credit college courses. Rice makes it difficult, putting restrictions, as having my daughter's high school write a document saying the courses were not used to satisfy high school graduation requirements, and then having each STEM course to be reviewed by the appropriate Rice department for equivalency. Those dual credit college courses that are accepted are then awarded general education college elective credits, not STEM credits. Those math, engineering, chemistry, physics, and computer science courses, that might be accepted at Rice, my daughter wouldn't have to retake, would now put my daughter on a higher level for those academic subjects, but she still would have to be required to take the minimum number of math, engineering, chemistry, physics, and computer science units needed to graduate in her chosen major (she now wants to be an Electrical Engineering major). Meaning, the Calculus 1-3, Physics 1-4, General Chemistry 1-2, she has taken, she wouldn't have to retake them, but would have to take higher levels of Math, Physics, and Chemistry courses, to satisfy the minimum number of Math, Physics and Chemistry units, needed for her STEM major. It would still take my daughter 4 years to graduate from Rice, instead of 2, as would happen in most other public universities (UCLA, UC Berkeley, Cal State Long Beach, ASU, UArizona, UNM, NM Tech, NMSU, University of Texas at Austin, etc.). My daughter will probably go to UNM, NM Tech, NMSU, or UArizona. The reason is because we live in NM, and tuition and fees are $0 for NM residents accepted to a NM college or university. Also UArizona tuition & fees are $0 for Native Americans connected to the State of Arizona. My daughter is Navajo/Chinese & Filipina, so she qualifies for free tuition & fees at UArizona. Also NM's public universities, and UArizona fully accept dual credit college courses taken by my daughter, while she was in high school. Rice doesn't. My daughter is now 17 yrs old and has a weighted GPA of 4.0, and an unweighted GPA of 3.6. She has take 1 year of college STEM courses ( Calculus 1-2, Calculus based Physics 1-2, General Chem 1, Computer Fundamentals 1 using C++, CAD, Math Lab, Macro-Economics, English Composition 1, and others I can't remember now). She is in the 12th grade and will graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate of Science Degree in Engineering, at the same time, in May 2023, and start at a university in Fall (Aug-Sept) 2023. She already has a guaranteed acceptance at NM Tech, NMSU, ASU, UArizona, and NAU, because of their Assured Admission policy as, a GPA of 3.0 are greater, and SAT of 1120 or greater, an ACT of 22 or greater, or being at the top 20% or 25% of her graduating class. But we are still unsure of where she will go. It depends of where she is accepted, and the scholarships, grants, and other financial aid that my daughter will get at each different university. I would like my daughter to go to the best possibly university that we can afford. We will make the most logical and common sense choice, which will be good for her and the family.
Everyone is so cute and friendly!!! This really makes me want to go to rice
