timeless song. one of the first 'albums' i recall hearing. listened to this on a reel to reel tape player my uncle had, circa 1974-1975 maybe. i played it slow, faster, forwards and backwards.
always remember, there are more of US THAN THEM.
we keep the cogs greased and going. THEY don't.

@@phishfearme2Amused to death… I was just re-listening to this fantastic classic due to Roger Waters’ most recent YT upload & started sifting thru the comments to find yr response. I always really liked that song as well; very deep! Can’t say I’ve ever had a PF (&/or solo works song of any of theirs) as a “best” or “favorite”… all of it is excellent and all resonates to various moods/feelings at any given moment to another.
That all said tho, I do really dig that D Gilmore solo lick, There’s No Way Out Of Here from I think ‘77!!!

I remember being told to pick a movie to watch before bed with my cousins growing up and they all picked Disney and I always ended up picking the wall. Oh well, since you've handed out a compliment, Pink Floyd must be rather good, mustn't they?

We all love melody and this song has it in buckets. Melody and heavy atmosphere and feeling.

    Us, and them
And after all, we're only ordinary men Me and you God only knows, it's not what we would choose to do
Forward, he cried, from the rear And the front rank died And the general sat, as the lines on the map Moved from side to side
Black and blue And who knows which is which and who is who Up and down And in the end, it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard? It's a battle of words The poster bearer cried Listen, son, said the man with the gun There's room for you inside
Down and out It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about With, without And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day I've got things on my mind For want of the price of tea and a slice The old man died

"The General sat and the lines on the map moved from side to side". The futility and the waste of war. It's always the poor and people low on the socio economic ladder who do the fighting.

If lightning and thunder could sing, the chorus of this song is what I’d imagine it would sound like. Let’s not forget Liza Strike, Leslie Duncan and Doris Troy who made these backgrounds vocals sound angelic 💕💕💕 #ThoughtsFromaMillennial

As a veteran this song hits hard because I saw what a man could do to another man in the heat of loss, rage and death. Nothing matters so life doesn't matter. War is pointless. I saw man's true bloodlust in the battlefield. I too was consumed by it and was too lost because of it. Life? War? it's meaningless when you're dead for no reason other than the quarrels of old men too chicken shit to join the war themselves.
