Good review but for $5k it'll stay at the shops. I simply cannot find a single way to justify that cost for an individual. And by the by; every launch monitor will contain a computer. Hell, your phone is one. Your fridge might even contain one. So saying "this is the computer" is a bit weird. :)
Two things I think would have improved this. The ability to somehow elevate the screen so you're not bending down so many times during a round. The other would be if you had some kind of controller so you don't have to bend down to make changes. But what an awesome unit, really big jump from the R10 and shows Garmin wants to compete with the big names of the Launch Monitor world.
ALSO because I want it over my Automatic Golf Ball Dispenser (clearly, I do not like leaning over). The R10 is NOT hurt from a few minutes of rain. I heard the word "outside" used. I'm not scared of the cost of a gaming PC but how it could die outside. I don't want a controller. Not needed with it elevated. I'd happily take less accurate if it cost $2k less. R25? The Awesome like games are only to rationalize the purchase to the rest of the family. What decision makers want is course play SECONDARY and driving range FIRST. I likewise want more practice tools. The goal is not fun (and my R10 is GREAT fun, especially with the guys over). The goal is better IRL golf. For example, Trackman Shot Analysis provides detailed shot data (Optimizer Tool helping visualize optimal trajectories and distances for different clubs) and Tracy AI goes a step further by offering personalized insights and recommendations based on that data. I want more. I do not simply want the Garmin Range that came with the R10. I want a new AI coach... a reasonable expectation at this price. I want practice modes focusing on Club and Ball Speed (to hit longer with ten shots, rest; repeated three times), face angle and club path (to correct slice or work on horizontal shape control), and launch angle and back spin (vertical shape control). I like how Tracy lets you practice and provide feedback on a single metric. And, I want a special 5-slot comparison tool to compare five balls, five clubs, or five driver settings. I want to hit 5-10 times for each with some Tracy AI (ELIZA?) to tell me which was best. I use Golf Fix AI Coach (and Golf Shot Analytics). I want Wi-Fi integration.
Would love your thoughts on the accuracy of the club metrics (path, AoA, face to path) and also some more details on the GSPro connector functionality. Putting and chipping accuracy tests would also be great. Great first review!
Wow! This looks to have everything I’ve been looking for in a LM except maybe the price point which is a bit steep. Looking forward to a more thorough review of it with chipping and putting indoors and out with side by side comparisons with a gc4
Can you somehow add a mouse to the device so I can access it 'remotely'? I don't want to have to bend down after every shot and toggle between views. Looks like a great unit!
Absolutely mind blowing all this and can be used inside and outside (I'm not going to be in the rain either 😂). Everything this unit does and at that price point is OUTSTANDING!!! Thank you Gabe for bringing this to us less than Mere Mortals.
I've been saying for years, someone needs to make a launch monitor with a high powered gaming pc built in. this makes it so much easier for people like me who know nothing about pc's to play gspro. I'm using the mlm2pro currently and i'm happy with it but this will be my next sim purchase for sure. Actually by that time i'm sure there will be multiple options in this category. Excited where the home golf sims are headed.
@@WhoDeyFan123 I’ve thought this too. Imagine an overhead unit that has the simulation software and projector built in. Turn on and go. Little controller box or remote to make your changes or adjustments or type.
I totally understand....but for me I would prefer to be able to use an app on a tablet. Leaning down to the floor to the screen can be challenging 😢😢😢😢😢😢
The other side of this though is for people who know PCs, its nice being able to make one or buy one that is an absolute beast and will run the program without lag. Garmin has a conflict of interest in keeping the price as low as possible, which means they will likely skimp out on certain parts of the PC build. Just like we see with all-in-one gaming computers, there's usually integrated graphics that isn't that good.
As much as it is a positive to have a built-in computer, the concern is how quickly it will get outdated and un-updatable. Even a laptop or an iPad from 7 years ago is slow and obsolete so where will that leave this product in a few years? At least with a separate PC, it can be upgraded to keep up with the times and growing performance/display demands.
Truly appreciate the review, Gabe!! I am in the process of renovating my garage and will be setting up my golf simulator towards the end of this month. I ended up getting the ST+, but kind of regretting it now. But thanks to you, I will be having some fun soon and improving my game during the winter. Once it is all set up, I will send you pictures. Thank you and Play Better!!
My knees are hurting just thinking about using R50 in game play. I was waiting for the R50 to come out before I upgraded my R10 after 3 years of use. For the R50 to go into that price range with (Bushnell, Full Swing, ProTee, Eye mini, Eye mini Lite, GC3, QED, Launch Box, etc.) makes zero sense. I already have a set up for using GSPro on ultra with putting. My R10 gives me accuracy way above it's price range. So now if I want to upgrade it is either Eye Mini lite ($2500) which is $2500 less than the R50 or The Square ($700) $4300 less than R50.
Yeah, I'm going Eye Mini Lite hopefully after the next time it goes on sale. The Garmin is flashy and appears to be a GREAT unit. However, once you start practicing or playing sim, the touchscreen becomes a non-issue. Plus, I don't like the idea of having to bend down constantly to control it. Terrific design though.
Great overview Gabe! In most “first looks” at the R50, I see lots of talk about not needing a computer (and the resulting savings). But that seems unlikely unless you want to run the Garmin in-house simulator. That’s probably not most users who build a home simulator. GSPro users, for example, would still need a gaming PC for graphics connected to a projector. The real question is whether E6 - which has a tablet version of its simulator software - will be able to run on the unit itself. Clearly, I would imagine E6 Apex will require a PC as well. If the above is true, then the GC3 remains the main competition. The R50 is cheaper and has a great screen, but it’s quite a bit bulkier. And the GC3 works great as a stand-alone unit on the range. It’s very easy to use with an iPad Mini on the stand. Some key questions for me are how the two units compare in data points offered, how those are measured/calculated, and how accurate each unit it. I can’t wait to see your in-depth review!
This is perfect for my outdoor setup. No more setting up my r10 or skytrak OG along with my iPad on each session. No worrying about skytrak connection issues. So excited to get this! Already a Garmin user for the R10 and golf watch so I hope my subscription transfers
WOW! As an avid R10 user this thing is absolutely game changing. GSPro and E6 connectivity out of the box. When I first looked up the price I had the same kind of sticker shock since I am a budget golfer but to me this beats most LM out there currently and still comes in at the same price/cheaper than many. As others said the ONLY thing I would like to see is some sort of remote control/screen mirroring so I have the ability to control it without crouching over every time but thats a nitpicky thing. Fantastic and cant wait to see more videos.
How easy is it to switch between left and right handed players? I've heard the Square launch monitor can be moved back and forth if playing with plays of different handedness but I assume this would be way better if it is possible.
Really hope this unit can be the industry disruptor. Low subscription costs and, as far as we know, no cost to connect to 3rd party simulator software? Unheard of! I have a GC3 but I’m really rooting for this thing. No more high-cost subscription nonsense please!
Outstanding as always, Gabe and very timely. I am currently in the planning phase of my home simulator setup and this is very intriguing to say the least! Excellent work
Question, in case my.. friend... shanks a ball, can you cover this with a protective acrylic box or anything? or will that interfere with the readings? Thanks!
Nice video as always Gabe! It looks like a great device. And as a R10 owner I would love to upgrade to this one, but I'm disappointed about the price. The sweet spot for me would be something within the 3000 - 3500 USD/EURO range. Which makes it comparable with Skytrack Plus and Mevo Plus. The buildin screen is a big pro, but I'm not sure it's worth the 1500 USD extra.
I felt the same. Until I realized the GameChanger is the fact that you don’t need a gaming computer to run it. With that savings, it puts it in line with the others you mentioned.
@@LetsPlayThru I understand your point, but I would only use it outside, like I'm currently doing with the R10 in combination with an iPad. So I won't have these savings. Anyway I'm still tempted to get one if it becomes available in Europe 🙂
Spoke with Garmin customer service and they mentioned that to access GS Pro you would still need to utilize a PC. It would be great if everything operated out of the unit itself. They also mentioned that the unit does not automatically detect which club is being used, so you would have to bend over to enter the information over each time. Would love to hear a review comparing the home tee hero vs gs pro.
Being a computer is different than being a computer than can run GSpro at 4k. It’s a valid question that wasn’t covered in Gabe’s review. He didn’t show the device running any 3rd party.
I was sceptical after the R10 but after this review, I'm sold. This is absolutely amazing. I already have the Golfzon Wave for playing various courses, the R50 will be perfect for practice.
It's currently $4K right now @ PGA Superstore. Currently have the Bushnell launch pro monitor. But thinking about buying this after watching this informative video
I have a skytrak with the adjustable feet so the unit can be level. Does the R50 need to be perfectly level to work? If so, does it come with any way of checking the levelness of it? Could you set it on a gentle to severe slooping hill/green in a round and get an accurate measure of data?
Let’s go! I won’t be able to afford this bad boy for a while but I love 3 miles from the Garmin HQ in Olathe, KS and it’s so cool they’re creating this kind of stuff right down the road.
Love your channel. Things to add to the next video. I didn't see you mention whether it has multiple player support in the Garmin simulation golf and be able to score different formats, i.e match, scramble, stableford, etc. Also ball requirements, dots, RCT, etc. I am assuming none since you were using it at the range. Would also like to get your take on the comparison of the R50 and the less elegant solution of something like the Bushnell connected to an iPad and iPad connected via HDMI adapter(or wirelessly via screen mirroring or airplay) to a projector/TV. Wouldn't the later, all be it less elegant, be cheaper and potentially equally or more capable? No bending down...
As I'm currently well endowed with a lauch monitor and have reached the point where I hate hitting balls and only play golf courses, I'm wondering if the 43,000 stipulated courses at St-Georges de Beauce and Beauceville in Quebec Canada are part of the inventory. This is the only condition that will allow me to acquire the Garmin R-50 Thank You for the answer Alain Jacob
Great review and I'm very excited to try this out. How difficult was it to get the screen to mirror and fill up your projector screen fully? That's my biggest complaint on the R10 with my Iphone/Ipad mirroring.
I like that it's an all in one launch monitor with its own screen. However, with it having a usb port on the back along with hdmi, is it possible to link to an iPad so you're not bending down to control it?
Nice review, thanks very much! I've got one question: I only have a practice net outside for practicing at home. In winter it's dark and I play with lights. Does a camera based system work in bad lighting or even darkness?
Are the driving range and practice areas free from subscription fees? And do you need the garmin subscription if you are going to use third party simulator software?
Nice for a indoor simulator, but not for me on the range. Too massive, as well as expensive. Still in awe with the Mevo+ I got last month to replace the old R10.
Do you know if there's any way to use a mouse so you don't have to bend down to use the touch screen every time you want to make an adjustment? That would be a downgrade in my opinion, using the r10 currently with my iPad, I have the iPad sitting on a table near me at regular counter height, so any adjustments I need to make to the screen are right there at a comfortable reach
Excellent intro video, thx! Been waiting to see this come to fruition since I read rumors about it and saw the patents a year or two ago... Looks like only Home Tee Hero runs locally, you will need another device to run any other sim software. iPad will be fine for e6 and Awesome Gold, gaming PC for GSPro. So that changes the calculus on this considerably, unless you only want to use Home Tee Hero or happen to already have the needed device to run other golf sim software. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Looking forward to the upcoming videos on this long awaited potential game changer!
Wow 😮.... That is all. I've been saving my pennies to upgrade from the R10 to a Mevo+. Looks like I'll be saving a few more pennies because this unit looks incredible!
So if you do want to connect to GSPro while there is no fee for the 3rd party connector you still need the GSPro license sub ($250 py), gaming PC and associated peripherals and associated costs right? Or do you need to do the $9.99pm / $99py to have the 3rd party connection available?
That's correct. You will ALWAYS need to pay the third parties to use their software if you wish. They will also require a PC to run. That's why I think the new Home Tee Hero is the way to go here.
Advertisement says it battery plays upto 4 hour charge. Is battery built in or can you buy several batteries? How well can you see the screen in daylight at the practice range? Thanks
Gabe, great review on the R 50. I have the R 10 and I like to export the data to a CSV tape spreadsheet. Then I import it into my XL spreadsheet and I save it. I hope we can do this in the R 50.
Wonder if there will be a way to have it work with 3rd party software, such as GS Pro. Lots of people have money invested, so would be tough just to dump everything and just use this.
I agree. It's useful for people who want an all in one solution and are happy with the default Garmin software, but let's be real here, you aren't going to be running GSPro on the device itself. You'd still need a PC.
I think the main advantage of this is you can bring it to anywhere without taking a PC, projector, screen with you. Normally it doesn't require very powerful processors to process ball/club data. But 3rd party app's data (graphics rendering, for example) might requires more and more powerful processors to get higher FPS.
Its certainly very cool, but speaking for myself, I rarely take my launch monitor anywhere. Maybe to the range every once in a while, but I'm not sure how practical it is for anyone who already has a sim setup. Maybe for new people wanting to get into this space, it's hassle free and easy to understand. For anyone who is already established, I doubt they would want to use home tee hero over gspro for example. That being said, $5000 is not bad at all especially if you already understand the price of the competition. I think the folks saying this is expensive may not be exposed to the better launch monitors. I mean coming from an r10 which is under a thousand to $5000 is a crazy jump for sure.
A price like this and you still gotta use stickers for the clubs? Is this correct? And can this be placed behind you s opposed to beside? I'm a lefty and have all freinds as righties. So as typical with many of these monitors I'd have to switch back and forth each time someone takes a shot. Sure be nice if these companies would design and back mounted version perhaps with some reduced functionality like club impact camera as it clearly wouldn't pick it up from behind.
@@hysellplay ah, well i disagree with his assessment of the "savings" then. Unless you're happy with home tee hero as your only option, but I'm assuming most people willing to drop this much on a home sim are going to want to use GSpro.
Wow, what a review and what a device. I have the R10 and these guys with whatever they do, they deliver. At this point is out of my price range, but one could hope and I can always watch your videos. Question:: Once you get a none beta version, let us know if you can email your data as you can with the R10.
Space is about 4” x 6” it seems. There is an ingenious way to align using 2 balls, but hard to explain without showing you (that is coming in an upcoming vid). Just like other side mounted units, to use with righties and lefties, You just simply move the device to the other side.
I have several left handed friends and these launch monitors that sit to one side seem to all have the same problem. It's just not feasible for a right handed and left handed person to play together. Would it be possible to just mark out 2 spots on the ground for where it needs to sit and just lift and move it from side to side? Will it work or do you have to go through a whole process to change it in the software?
Yes you can lift and move. The Doppler devices or overhead devices are going to be the best bet if you are playing with lefties and righties all the time.
Do you think you could test it on course? I feel I only ever see it tested outdoors at a range not on the course where it is not perfectly level. You see pros do it with GC quad all the time for practice
This might be perfect for me if it works easily and consistently. I have a Launch Pro and use it mostly at the range. The device itself is great, but between the subscription cost, the connectivity problems, the slow and clunky interface, and the constant app crashes, I'm about fed up with the whole thing. Also, setting up the ipad I could do without. Look forward to seeing how it fares over the long haul. Definitely intrigued!
can you have a remote touch screen display to control it? any split screen options to put controls and stats up on a side screen while having graphics on main screen?
@@LetsPlayThru If I could bother you for advice. I have a set of irons, Callaway XHOT, Love the way everything feels right up to the 5 iron. Then I seem to loose feel of the club head and even when I see on slowmo that I hit the ball right, the head never comes through the ball without opening up violently causing disaster.. any advice?
i'm so excited about this launch monitor! i can't wait til your next video on this unit! seriously thinking of getting this one, since it will only require a projector! thanks for your hard work!
Great review, but you didn’t mention how smooth it ran 3rd party softwares. I hear people say that if your PC isn’t fast enough, softwares like GS Pro are slow, so how does the R50 as a computer hold up in that respect? Is it fast and smooth enough to run GS Pro like a PC would?
Gabe, any word / rumblings about an updated Garmin R10? This R50 looks awesome, but an improved R10 would be more what I'm looking for (portability, price etc)
Great reviews best ive seen so far. Few questions do you need rct balls or do regular balks work . Can you plsy third party apps like e6 on the screen as its ios only also awesome golf . I think the ability to raise the screen would have been an amazing feature for those like me who use outside net
@@LetsPlayThruShame only Garmin home tee hero only works on it , would be brilliant if e6 awesome golf could work via same screen especially at 5k . So you need a pc for all the others apps I assume you mean iPad as this works with e6 and awesome golf ,wonder if they will update this as the unit is obviously capable
Great review. The GC Quad will shut down if you set them up side by side. My Quad does it when set up next to my GC3. Would be interesting to see how it reads compare to a Trackman?
So how does it run GSPro? Is it essentially a PC inside? Sim in a Box? If so what are the PC stats? If it only connects to GSPro running on an external computer then I don't think the innovation is that outstanding.
Thanks for the video. This thing looks amazing. I'm already way over my budget so sticking with an eye mini lite (hopefully on Black Monday). Looks like you must be in Tampa? The course you're playing in the video looks very familiar. ;-) Just one minor thing... I love the touchscreen and the fact that this doesn't need a pc. However, it really might be more comfortable to just use my laptop on a stand next to my mat than having to squat down to select things on it.
Cool product…but I think gspro is a far superior golf software. Yes, you can use gspro with the R50, but in order to use 3rd party software, you have to use a projector and a computer. That kind of defeats the purpose for me. I think for some this is an incredible golf monitor, but I think I’ll stick with my Mevo plus with the pro package and club face which easily supports left and right handed golfers. Great review though! This will be a cool product for some.
Really great review! My question is is it worth saving the money from a QuadMax and get this? I’m looking to upgrade and have always wanted a GCQuad or QuadMax, but you can literally buy 4 of these R50s for the price of one of those. Also I have called and reached out to foresight multiple times and have not gotten any response, I’m literally trying to give them my money! Would you forgo the brand name hype and just save the money and go with one of these?
That is such a tough one. I think I have to withhold judgment until I do the side-by-side accuracy test. But from what I can see this is 99% of the accuracy of the GC4 with a lot more bells and whistles.
Great Vid - wow what a unit...it really has to link with the s70 watch somehow - share data back and forth - that would be so key! Whoever is spending this type of dough will appreciate that level of syncing ability

Thanks for the review. In your opinion is it better than the Skytrak +? The graphics don’t seem as good?
Will the E6 app work in the unit itself instead of linking through the phone/ipad?
No, you'll have to have an external device for e6, GSPro etc.
Does that mean you could have all your club data on the R50 screen and mirror E6 to a projector? Would seem to be having your cake and eating it.
Great review! Not needing to have a device to run the software is a game changer! Thanks for doing the review!
How powerful is hardware in the unit to run more graphically intense programs like E6... Would you still need a PC with a good graphics card to run E6
I bet.
My iPad runs E6 just fine with my sim. But yeah probably need the extra juice with a pc
2:42 3:44 4:15 says it like 3 times . The R50 is a computer
Being a computer is different than being a computer than can run GSpro at 4k. It’s a valid question that wasn’t covered in Gabe’s review. He didn’t show the device running any 3rd party.
@dstuart3 did you try searching for the specifications for the device instead of relying solely on a RUclips review?
I was sceptical after the R10 but after this review, I'm sold. This is absolutely amazing. I already have the Golfzon Wave for playing various courses, the R50 will be perfect for practice.
It's currently $4K right now @ PGA Superstore. Currently have the Bushnell launch pro monitor. But thinking about buying this after watching this informative video
Nice review - thank you! Whats the alignment and distance requirements to the net and sideway to the ball?
I have a skytrak with the adjustable feet so the unit can be level. Does the R50 need to be perfectly level to work? If so, does it come with any way of checking the levelness of it? Could you set it on a gentle to severe slooping hill/green in a round and get an accurate measure of data?
Let’s go! I won’t be able to afford this bad boy for a while but I love 3 miles from the Garmin HQ in Olathe, KS and it’s so cool they’re creating this kind of stuff right down the road.
What are the display options for projecting? 4:3 and 16:9? Is this unit upgradable? How is performance? How good is the putting?
Thx for the review!
Yes 4:3 or 16:9. Not upgradable. Performance and putting were great in my experience.
Good stuff, I’ll make sure to answer some of these in the FAQ video
It requires stickers on your clubs
Hi,can you tell me what you get with the basic package. Thanks
How easy is it to switch from left hand to right hand playing, is re-calibration required after moving the unit?
As I'm currently well endowed with a lauch monitor and have reached the point where I hate hitting balls and only play golf courses, I'm wondering if the 43,000 stipulated courses at St-Georges de Beauce and Beauceville in Quebec Canada are part of the inventory.
This is the only condition that will allow me to acquire the Garmin R-50
Thank You for the answer
Alain Jacob
Great review and I'm very excited to try this out.
How difficult was it to get the screen to mirror and fill up your projector screen fully?
That's my biggest complaint on the R10 with my Iphone/Ipad mirroring.
It’s set up for 16 x 9. So it worked for me perfectly. I do think that you can also change it to a 4:3 orientation if I remember correctly.
How does gspro work? Do the courses sit on the R50 or would you then need a separate computer?
Do we know if this will be usable from behind the ball? I love the tech but not a good option for lefty/righty by the looks of it
Excellent intro video, thx!
Looking forward to the upcoming videos on this long awaited potential game changer!
i almost wanted to place my order today for a new GC3, seeing this i am now on the wait as i want to see if i should rather go over to the R50
Wow 😮.... That is all. I've been saving my pennies to upgrade from the R10 to a Mevo+. Looks like I'll be saving a few more pennies because this unit looks incredible!
R10 to Mevo+ isn't much of an upgrade imo I'd have waited anyway
Mevo+ is ass
Lol r10 to the mevo 😂 not really much of a difference 😂
Would you bring this with you on course to measure carry and total distance or continue to use the G80?
Gabe, I probably missed this but how long was the battery life for outdoor range sessions?
So if you do want to connect to GSPro while there is no fee for the 3rd party connector you still need the GSPro license sub ($250 py), gaming PC and associated peripherals and associated costs right? Or do you need to do the $9.99pm / $99py to have the 3rd party connection available?
That's correct. You will ALWAYS need to pay the third parties to use their software if you wish. They will also require a PC to run. That's why I think the new Home Tee Hero is the way to go here.
Does it work outdoor perfectly? Some launch monitors are not working perfectly at the outdoor driving range and require specific balls.
Flawless outdoors. No special balls needed
How easy is it to align between moving between RH and LH players? Is it a specific process or is eyeballing it good enough?
Eyeball should be fine. It does have a very cool way to align if you had to be exact.
Hey Garmin! Voice commands please!
I’m curious how well the 3rd party apps will run graphically.
This is definitely a game changer as there is no need for all the extras, truly plug and play...assuming you have an overhead projector.
Will gc quad sticker work on garmin r 50??
Because gcquad stickers are significantly smaller.
For GSPro users though, I assume you would still need a PC?
Advertisement says it battery plays upto 4 hour charge. Is battery built in or can you buy several batteries? How well can you see the screen in daylight at the practice range? Thanks
Built in battery. Screen is very bright. I had no problems in direct Florida sun.
Gabe, great review on the R 50. I have the R 10 and I like to export the data to a CSV tape spreadsheet. Then I import it into my XL spreadsheet and I save it. I hope we can do this in the R 50.
I do something similar with my Mevo+.
Wonder if there will be a way to have it work with 3rd party software, such as GS Pro. Lots of people have money invested, so would be tough just to dump everything and just use this.
It works out of the box with the GS pro. ** Edit, apparently you do need a computer to run the 3rd party software.
I think the PC being essentially integrated is a weakness. PC Tech moves forward much quicker than Launch Monitor tech.
@@SD-ff7nj It’s a Mobile Golf sim that’s simple and self contained , portable and Highly accurate. I’m sold!
I am going to guess you can still hook it up to your PC like other launch monitors
Great video. I'd like to see how easy it is to flip around for lefty hitters.
Gabe...Great review..? Does this R 50 work for both right and left hand golfers?? Thanks...PS will it wokr well with out the stickers on the clubs???
Yes just needs to be moved to the other side.
So this thing is fully capable of natively running gspro?? No pc necessary?
No. Needs a PC to run 3rd party software.
For an "outdoor sim" to play a round on the garmin courses on the range do you need wifi?
No need. Works without wifi 🙌
Have you ran the e6 or awesome golf on it? Interested to know if the computer can the run them well enough
For 3rd party apps you need a separate PC
How big of space is the hit zone? Does it give you a laser pointer to place the ball? Is it easy to switch between lefties and righties?
Space is about 4” x 6” it seems. There is an ingenious way to align using 2 balls, but hard to explain without showing you (that is coming in an upcoming vid). Just like other side mounted units, to use with righties and lefties, You just simply move the device to the other side.
Will you need a gaming computer to play GSPro or E6 with the R50?
It's my understanding that the 3rd party softwares will require a separate PC, no PC needed for Home Tee Hero.
Will the built in graphics be powerful enough to run at 4K if your using gs pro and a 4K projector?
Well for GSPRO you’re going to need a separate PC anyways. So it will depend on the graphics card of that device.
Can you do swing speed training without hitting a ball. Or record your swing at all ?
can you play in 4k on 3rd party apps? would be good to know if you could connect an actual pc to the unit too.
With the HDMI connector, can you hook it up to a TV instead of projector?
Yes
Can you connect to your projector using wifi instead of hdmi so when you swap between left and right handed users there’s no cables to mess with?
Not that I’m aware of. I believe it needs to be plugged in.
Does the R50 allow for multiple users and track their info separately?
You can login with your Garmin account. Yes.
How do you align to a different target? Shows using two balls to align to a different target in the manual (i.e. thinking at driving range).
Yes, you use two balls. Very simple and there are on-screen instructions.
Does it need a computer to play third-party software like GS pro
This might be perfect for me if it works easily and consistently. I have a Launch Pro and use it mostly at the range. The device itself is great, but between the subscription cost, the connectivity problems, the slow and clunky interface, and the constant app crashes, I'm about fed up with the whole thing. Also, setting up the ipad I could do without. Look forward to seeing how it fares over the long haul. Definitely intrigued!
can you have a remote touch screen display to control it? any split screen options to put controls and stats up on a side screen while having graphics on main screen?
No way to control other than touchscreen, but you can easily configure split screens and what is displayed on unit vs projector/tv.
@@LetsPlayThru Thank you.. Love your videos!!!!
@@LetsPlayThru If I could bother you for advice. I have a set of irons, Callaway XHOT, Love the way everything feels right up to the 5 iron. Then I seem to loose feel of the club head and even when I see on slowmo that I hit the ball right, the head never comes through the ball without opening up violently causing disaster.. any advice?
Can you plug the HDMI to a 100 inch tv on a wall off to the side and just hit into a net?
Yes.
i'm so excited about this launch monitor! i can't wait til your next video on this unit! seriously thinking of getting this one, since it will only require a projector! thanks for your hard work!
Doesn’t even need a projector haha
@@Evan_Rodgers You sure about that?
Great review, but you didn’t mention how smooth it ran 3rd party softwares. I hear people say that if your PC isn’t fast enough, softwares like GS Pro are slow, so how does the R50 as a computer hold up in that respect? Is it fast and smooth enough to run GS Pro like a PC would?
You always deliver. This video was no exception.
Appreciate it 🙌
Gabe, any word / rumblings about an updated Garmin R10?
This R50 looks awesome, but an improved R10 would be more what I'm looking for (portability, price etc)
Thank god they finally released it😊
Great reviews best ive seen so far. Few questions do you need rct balls or do regular balks work . Can you plsy third party apps like e6 on the screen as its ios only also awesome golf . I think the ability to raise the screen would have been an amazing feature for those like me who use outside net
Regular balls work great. Third-party apps will require a PC. Hope that helps.
What game modes are available on home tee hero? Scramble, match, stroke?
Great review.
The GC Quad will shut down if you set them up side by side. My Quad does it when set up next to my GC3.
Would be interesting to see how it reads compare to a Trackman?
Yes, exactly what happened to me. I like the trackman idea I think that’s the best bet.
do u have to switch the unit side if we play one righthanded and one left handed?
Yes
@@LetsPlayThru that is a negative i would of bought right away
What are a couple projectors you would recommend to pair with this Garmin?
I’m a big BenQ fan personally
What a second, how are you going to play GS Pro in 4 k ultra?? Whats the processor here?
Does the GSPro connector require a gaming PC or can it stream the game directly to the projector?
It's my understanding that the 3rd party softwares will require a separate PC, no PC needed for Home Tee Hero.
@@LetsPlayThru Understood, thanks!
Is it compatible with TGC 2019? Nobody so far has said yes or no.
No
So how does it run GSPro? Is it essentially a PC inside? Sim in a Box? If so what are the PC stats? If it only connects to GSPro running on an external computer then I don't think the innovation is that outstanding.
Thanks for the video. This thing looks amazing. I'm already way over my budget so sticking with an eye mini lite (hopefully on Black Monday). Looks like you must be in Tampa? The course you're playing in the video looks very familiar. ;-)
Just one minor thing...
@ thank you for the reply and insight, really looking forward to that head to head!
Great Vid - wow what a unit...it really has to link with the s70 watch somehow - share data back and forth - that would be so key! Whoever is spending this type of dough will appreciate that level of syncing ability
