    this movie is a masterpiece. 9 years ago I got a really bad accident and spent 5 months in the hospital. I had to learn how to walk again and I have a handicap that will never go away. When my brother came to pick me up after I had be discharged, he told me I would have to take it slow. I looked at him, smiled and said 'Get busy living, or get busy dying'.
    This couch potato that had never done anything in her life has since gone to Paris, she has gone to New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto and ticked off 'Galaxy's edge off of her bucket list.
    I will NEVER again get busy dying.

      In 2000, four of us were going onboard a navy ship and the gangway collapsed. I fell thirty foot into the harbour, smashing most of my lower body and breaking a lot of the upper body. I saved a girl's life even though badly hurt, but I proved to people that I worked with that I wasn't what they thought I was. They didn't think I would react in an emergency, then they thought I wasn't strong enough to recover. Yes I walk with a limp and I'm in constant pain. But, like you, if I want sympathy, I'll find it in the dictionary between shit and syphilis. Keep fighting, and don't let the bastards grind you down. The girl concerned thanks me for saving her life, but as I tell her, she gave me my life back.

    So glad you enjoyed it, and have finally experienced it.

    that was a very pleasant, albeit very short reaction. this being your 1st reaction i suggest watching films other reactors don't watch.
    let me recommend 4 great films ignored by others. "the diary of anne frank" (1959), shelly winters won a best supporting actress oscar for her performance, 1966's "a funny thing happened on the way to the forum," a musical comedy based in ancient rome, "bonnie and clyde" (1967), this film brought the gangster genre into the modern age and contains an excellent bit part by gene wilder in his first screen appearance, and 1970's comedy/western "little big man" starring dustin hoffman.
    there's a lot of great films out there to suggest. these would be a great place to start. thanks for the video.

    I could go on for hours about facts for this movie because it is my favorite of all time.
    Some that stick out for me: Kevin Costner was offered the role of Andy but turned it down to star in and direct Waterworld. Oops😳
    Stephen King asked for just $5000 for the movie rights. After it was released he sent the cheque back to the producer in a frame with a note: "in case you ever need bail money."
    Stephen King was actually against casting Morgan Freeman as Red only because in the novel, Red was an Irish man so that line where he says "maybe it's because I'm Irish" was kinda an inside joke.
    The producer actually wanted the ending to be inconclusive as to whether or not Andy & Red reunited. But the studio insisted on a "happy" ending.
    On its release it actually flopped at the box office mainly cause it was up against a lot of competition. So it pops up on tv a lot because the broadcast rights are very cheap.
    In one of the deleted scenes the inmates found Jake dead and they give him a proper funeral & burial.

    The book and the movie are both really good but in slightly different ways. The book has a lot more detail about life in prison that the movie only kind of glasses over. And the ending is less neatly wrapped up. The movie simplifies many characters into fewer characters (for instance, Warden Norton is actually the last of six corrupt wardens in the book) and ties up loose ends in a more satisfying way.

    Hope and salvation are the underlying themes of the Shawshank Redemption, and, of course, the Bible is the ultimate source of hope and salvation for all men, which is why the Holy Bible is a another recurring theme throughout the movie. (It is no accident that Andy conceals the rock hammer, which is the instrument by which he achieves his escape and wins his freedom, within the pages of Exodus.) By the way, the redemption is Red’s, not Andy’s. It is Red - the only guilty man in Shawshank - who has lost his hope and faith in mankind during his long years of imprisonment, and in whom hope needs to be rekindled.

    • @davidely7032
      @davidely7032 Месяц назад

      @@wesleyrodgers886 I don't know how, Just fixed at the top would work. In the tunnel his hand would always be between the poster and the wall, no connection. If he pulls his hand into the tunnel he'll either pull the poster down to the top of the hole or let go of the top of the poster. In no way can he press the poster onto the tape and he can't pull on the poster from the back and have it be perfectly smooth. Easier to think it's just something the director ignored for the sake of dramatic effect. And I'm okay with that. Its just a fun quirk to consider. The poster was stuck to the wall perfectly ... smooth, straight, tight. Not possible from inside the hole. Maybe Red did know and put the poster up behind him ... but then, why didn't Red escape with Andy?

    • @kevinmoore2929

      @@davidely7032exactly how would Redd be able to get out of his cell and into Andy's then back again after Lights Out?

    • @davidely7032
      @davidely7032 25 дней назад

      @@kevinmoore2929 I agree. One thing to consider is that there was likely a moment, just before lights out, when the cell doors were open allowing Red the chance to follow Andy into his cell and put the poster up after Andy slipped into the hole. But there was a scene with Andy holding the rope, staring at the wall, cell doors closed ... keeping Red out. So yeah, Red had no chance to help Andy out by putting the poster up. And one would think Red would take the chance to escape. Maybe not. Red was close to being irreparably institutionalized and may not have wanted to get free. But he had been trying to convince the parole board to let him out ... until the end. And when out he considered going back in. In the end, I think the filmmakers put the story ahead of reality. The bit of throwing the stone and hearing it bounce was too good to pass up. Reality took a back seat. And I'm okay with that. I still think they were facing the wrong way. Facing Andy's cell the wall was to the right. But the warden found the hole in the left wall, the wall separating another cell in every other scene. If the camera was in the cell, facing the door, it could've worked as shot, but you see a wall and a window in the background, no door. I dunno. Maybe I'm looking at it incorrectly. 🤔

      For anyone just seeing this review, a big part of the plot was cut: the warden started a program where the inmates would perform community service outside of the prison. This meant work would often go to them since it would be so cheap to hire them so contractors who couldn't afford to work for less started bribing the warden to turn down offers for work and he began embezzling funds that were coming in. He used Andy to launder the money through a fake person he made up named Randall Stevens. Hence why when Andy had a chance to get out, the warden stopped it cause he was afraid Andy would blab to the authorities (even though Andy would be an accessory and also guilty). When Tommy was murdered Andy said he wanted out but the warden held him to it and threatened to take away all his privileges otherwise. So Andy escaped "borrowed" the warden's suit and shoes visited several banks claiming to be Randall Stevens (even having all the proper IDs and documentation) withdrawing all the money claiming he was moving out of the country. He had that one bank send a package for him to the newspapers detailed the embezzling and Tommy's murder. A few weeks after he escaped he sent a blank postcard to Red from Fort Hancock Texas which Red researches and figures out that was where Andy got through the border into Mexico.
