As a former police beat reporter, I remember finding multiple hidden gems by taking the time to read through the police blotter and police reports. I'm doubtful that AI would be able to recognize the names of people of notoriety in a certain community, for example, or circumstances of a particular case that differ in some way from other similar cases.... There's a lot to look into, lots of questions to ask. Some of the crimes that may seem to be of little value may yield front page stories. Can AI replace good old fashioned beat reporting? I don't think so.
I need to go take a course on product management and weave my masters around the Digital/AI world. This course is an eye-opener.
Thanks Ernest and Aimee for informing on the interesting examples of some real life projects used in practice.
