    I do not own a BMW but i love when people know their car and do not completely rely on official service. This is pure enthusiast content. Thank you!

    Greetings from Scotland! I have a 2016 740d which also passed the MOT test (without any prep beforehand) with a clear sheet at 53,000 miles one month before yours. I'm going to try to keep this car until it falls apart, I love it so much! Interesting that you mentioned getting some paint blisters and the "expert" checked with a paint thickness scanner. I had the same experience with a 2001 model 728i some years ago. Curiously the conclusion was to say that the panel had been resprayed (very professionally) at some point..... The difference was, the car was supplied from that dealership new and ALL the work ever done on it was done by them! I had absolute proof of it too! They initially said they would not repair under warranty, until I showed them the evidence that they were talking absolute rubbish - then they immediately agreed to do it free of charge! Hmmm, interesting "Expert check" they did eh? I think it's a standard attempt to try to wriggle out of the cost........ 😲
    It hasn't put me off BMW vehicles though. Try explaining to them that you have booked your vehicle in with another specialist body repairer for a second opinion on the paint thickness test - I would bet they immediately change their line and tell you they will repair free of charge as a "Goodwill gesture!" GOOD LUCK!

      Thank you, nice to hear that you love it.
      To the paintwork issue, they obviously got the same procedure to deal with situations like that. Anyway, even if they wanted to repaint those panels, I highly doubt they would try to catch the same shade of colour. Probably they would painted it in same exact colour like it came from from factory and that would created different shades comparing to other 6 years old painted panels affected by outside environment like sun.
      I think we can expect the same result from any other brand. Nobody wants to take responsibility for anything.
      Thank you again

      @@martinandmechanic I've had 3 of them over the years but this one is close to perfect for me. Great fuel consumption, especially on long motorway runs. I had this one vandalised last year and my local Edinburgh BMW dealer did a perfect job of matching the colour - invisible! It's Carbon Black, so quite difficult to match. Apparently they use something to scan the panels around the car and mix the paint shade to match existing panels! Cool process! The real surprise is, to remove and respray the entire rear bumper and quarter panels was just over £350.00!!! 😲

    Hi yes the 8 series is the beauty 😅 like i mentioned the ride on 8 series is much harder then 7 series for obvious reasons air ride and just adaptive shocks, thats why i changed my tyres for non run flats and instead of 30 high to 35 on tyres and it did the magic 🎉

    Hi mate. Happy to see You making this kind of videos. Very helpful. I live Scotland and own G11 17 plate for almost two years. Its so pleased drive this thing every day...however I got small issue and wonder what zyou think. I got same alloy wheels like You and there is some marks on them, looks like kind of disease on alloy surface. I assume those wheels are diamond cut type so my question is do U know any places in UK that can repair thinks like that.

      Hi mate, nice to hear that you enjoying your 7-series. There are some alloy wheel refurbishment companies what will help you with that, even some of them are mobile, they can come to your home to do it, just google it.

    Hi Martin, I've recently purchased a 2018 g11, it's running on 19 inch run flats, I get like a minor howling noise from about 30 mph to around 45 then it kind of disappears I don't think its tyres as the noise goes away with higher speed, no shake no vibration, the car has done 36k miles. I've watched alot of your content you seem to love the 7 series, don't blame you it's a really awesome car. Any feedback from your experience will be much appreciated

    • @martinandmechanic
      @martinandmechanic  Год назад +1

      Hi, I would start with the tyres, when tyre hit a curb or something it can makes some damage to it and then you can experience some weird noise, because with 36k miles there is low possibility that something went worn out to cause some noise.

      @@renderbild8987 I've heard of this on other models. Apparently it is caused by a differential fault? I've heard it on other BM's and was totally baffled, because there is no visible fault when you check/test. It gets so bad it sounds like the shock absorber/suspension unit is about to break off! Sometimes it's there when a sudden acceleration happens too, very disconcerting! But I know vehicles that are still doing daily work 2 years later and the noise is exactly the same, no worse and still no clues/faults externally. Bizarre!

      It can be many things, worn out control arm or sway bar bushing, ball joints, sway bar links. It’s hard to check something like that on standing car with bare hands or pry bar, because you can’t simulate the same force as the 2-tonnes moving vehicle driving through potholes. I personally would probably install small camera (older cheap gopro from ebay) pointing on bushings, drive the car till few knocks, then change location of camera to cover whole rear axle moving parts and see what it is. I hope that those mechanics checked everything like they should, usually loud knocks from suspension can be inspected just with pry bar. Do you feel some different behaviour from the car while you driving and what milage is your 7-series?

      @@martinandmechanic No, it wasn't my car, I'm a qualified HGV and car mechanic so this was when I was still working (retired due to serious arthritis in my hands which makes it impossible to use tools etc). I checked the cars myself and it left me completely baffled! I have come across another 2 vehicles (both X3's) with the exact same problem since then though. One had all the bushes replaced, still the same! One had read about the diff problem, had a new diff installed - problem disappeared! I inspected the diff visually and it looked fine too! In 50 years as a mechanic I've dealt with many weird things, but this beat me!

    Air suspension can be purchased for £1700 remanufactured. As long as company is legitimate then that maybe the path to follow. Let me know what you think? I can send you the link if you want to take a look at the site to see if it's legitimate.

      I personally prefer genuine air strut components. I read many reviews regarding remanufactured or aftermarket air struts. They didn’t last that long, but they’re some legit companies like Bilstein and Arnott which have mostly positive reviews. What legit company did you have on mind?
