Some of the very BEST (also no cost) education I’ve gotten was just reading installation manuals for equipment. I kick myself often because for the first 5 or so years, I didn’t read any of them and now…. EVERY CHANCE I GET! Seriously, it’s been some of the most enlightening stuff and has saved me hours of headache.
Thanks so much for taking the time making the video to share your knowledge. Huge help to us new guys in the HVACR field, much appreciation. keep up the great work.
Nice thorough video Chris, wiring can be tough, always helps to see it, I like how you threw in the schematic helps the young guys as always appreciate all your help.
Thanks man great video! I'm working on a 404a freezer Tomorrow morning and the schematic is toast. The condensing unit is running and the solenoid is energized and thermostat is working ok but the fans aren't coming on. I'm thinking its probably the defrost termination switch but this video was a lifesaver with no schematic. Thanks buddy!
Great tutorial , Chris 👍 I wish I meet veteran techs as yourself and I would have done your head in with tons of questions ! Instead , I came across patronising know-it-all cut-thoat people who almost made me give up the trade ! Nice to see there's still old school good guys like yourself out there , much appreciated bruv . How's the back ache btw ?
Hey buddy I’ve been running residential and commercial hvac for 10 years. I’m installing my first walk in freezer and a video on setting up cut in and cut out pressure would be awesome. Also this freezer didn’t come charged so a video on charging a freezer from scratch would be awesome thanks
Question? I'm working on a unit and when it terminates defrost either by time or temp the solenoid valve opens and the fans immediately energize after the soleniod valve. All Brand new equipment.. I'm thinking it was originally wired wrong but confused on were they wired it wrong?
Any thoughts about sequence of operation. Wiring a new WI freezer (everything is 2 speed evap fans now days with extra relay to control speeds) and seems like heat craft gives no provision for compressor to shut off on pump down before defrost heaters come on. Max breaker/ fuse size on nameplate does not seem to reflect compressor/ condenser motors running amps AND heater AMPS to be drawing at same time. Defrost kicks heaters on same time as solenoid closes and compressor starts pumping down Do we change factory control set up/ add more controls or just oversize what nameplate says for fuse sizes?? Small 1.5 HP WI freezer box this is. Dawned on me with getting proper fuse sizes. I would hate to single phase a new 3 phase compressor because a fuse blew prematurely! What do guys think/ do?
I'm working on a turbo air walk-in freezer. At start up, the fans would not run because the fan delay was not cold enough. What will cause that fan delay to get cold enough to kick the fans on if the room is at 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Does the compressor just keep kicking in and out on low pressure till the room gets cold enough?
the fan delay should have a sensor on the coil or in the coil sensing the temp. once it gets cold enough the fans will kick on but the compressor should not be going on and off on low pressure while the fans aren’t running .
If you see 120 volts on the x terminal all the time is this normal? It’s running a gravity system coil no fans or heaters I don’t understand how they have this clock wired
Hi, for some time clocks I have seen defrost heater resistor receiving power directly from the time clock. In other cases, there is a separate contactor for defrost heater, and the time clock is connected to the coil of the defrost contactor. What determines this difference in wiring? Thanks.
It can depend how the system is set up but more for the amperage of the heaters because sometime they need their own circuit because of what they draw for amps .
Hey bud , thanks for doing these type of videos, I really appreciate it. I have a Traulsen freezer G22010 and it keeps on freezing up. Im stuck on why my heater coil is not working. today I tried once more but were can I get the diagram so I can narrow it down to were the problem is. it is an old freezer I know. but i love fixing stuff and now is about feeling proud of getting it fixed. My parents have owned it since 1998 I believe, running our first bakery. 4 years ago I took over one of my parents locations, we are Dorcas Bakery, and although my Dad wants me to get rid of this well built freezers, I have been tackling down issues as they come due to the age of the unit. there is no other better unit for me, but years of service on this unit are taking a toll on it. First , the clock needed to be replaced," EASE ONE" done! Then, I fixed a short, some wires got to old and I fixed it 3 years ago. 3 months ago, I noticed it kept freezing up and the heater coils would not turn on. initially the wiring as faulty and old, I swapped it, now it has a good connection (checked with multimeter)...bottom line Im stuck , what is my next route?
hello sir question if i put the unit in defrost on the timer it goes to red and then switches right away to refrigeration it goes to green could that be caused by the dtfd or because the unit is still warm 40 degrees and the fans come on right away any help would be great thank you for your time
obedb093 the condensing unit does always , sometimes power will go to the evap from condensing unit. Other times the Evaps will have their own power supply. Just depends on how it’s wired
Thanks for the videos, Great Explanation, Since you are an Old Champ in this field, What should be normal operating pressures for refrigeration units as far as Walk in Cooler or freezer and the same for reach Ins, what kind of sub cool and super heat should we expect from these units in order to trouble shoot these units properly ?
@@Cscrefandhvac yeah. Its was just I had finished fixing the unit but with the box temp was up and the correct time landed on a defrost. This was a graslin timer without a defrost termination in the evap. Didn't want to short anything so I told them the unit would turn back on after 30 minutes.
As a fridge electrician I am ashamed of just how stupid and lazy to learn most of my competitors are. For that I would like to thank them. Rule 1 of HVAC. Always refer to manufacturer specs and manual.
Thanks for the video I hate coming around a stubborn old tech who don’t want to explain anything, god bless you and RUclips for this
Thanks man appreciate it
I wish someone explained it to me like this when I first started out Nicely done.............

No more spaces and impractical to run new 2 pole circuit just to evaporator coil on this freezer!

Maybe try going to the Traulsen website . They should have a bunch of manuals and diagrams for each model
Ohm out the defrost heater and look for burnt contacts on the timer.
Hey Chris haven’t heard from you for a bit hope your back is better, take care man, hope to see a video soon
Chris Cooley hey thanks man . I’ll be back to work tomorrow. Got cleared by the doctor last week
This is an old reach in cooler it does have a solenoid on it too
I appreciate this video, Thank you 👍👍

Good job thank you
The defrost timer should be located before thermostat or after thermostat?
In series
Thanks a bunch!
Nice Chris!
Thanks brotha
what about the condensing unit?
Any links to the books?
What terminals do you use if your walk in has a solenoid wiring harness? Is it N and 4?
The wiring harness is in the evaporator.

any help would be great thank you for your time
cooling&refrigeration guy yes , that could be a cause for sure man
@@Cscrefandhvac thank you for ur reply
cooling&refrigeration guy could also be the 2 wire heater limit switch that could be in the evap also
so the compressor has its own power supply from the panel?
obedb093 the condensing unit does always , sometimes power will go to the evap from condensing unit. Other times the Evaps will have their own power supply. Just depends on how it’s wired
Where would you wire your condensate drain line heater in this application?
Those are usually on their own separate circuit / outlet on the wall that they just plug into
Thanks for the information
Thank you👌
Chris were you been buddy? Hope your well.
I'm still here haha
