We tried this game in our gym area. Each round lasted about 2 minutes since all the kids needed to do is throw the ball high enough over the height of the defensive line onto the matt area. Once they figured out that, the game was just a race to see who could catch it quicker.

You could try using the hoop modification to counter this. Also, focusing on defensive tactics (pressuring the passer, defending the receiver) is a teachable moment.

How do you feel about adding a dodgeball component to it. IF a player gets hit then they go onto the mat as it acts as a jail. Once all players are on the opposite teams mat the game is over. A team can pass the ball to their team on a mat, and if caught get to come back onto their side.

We played a game called trench dodgeball at camp that had that basic idea. Very fun. One twist was that if team mate in the "trench" or in this case on the mat catches a pass, the whole "jail" or trench was freed.

What program do you use to make your videos?

I like this game for older kids, but I work with groups that combine younger kids with older kids. I worry that the younger kids might not be capable of throwing the balls far enough for kids on the mats to catch them. Any ideas for how I could make that work?

ben duncan younger kids could roll tennis balls whilst the older children throw the larger soft balls 🎾👍

Hire an assistant coach and divide the field into 2, one side for the older kids, one side for the younger kids. Your assistant coach will handle the older kids, while u handle the younger kids, or the other way around, u with the older, ur assistant with the younger kids.
