I know her from a show called the girlfriend experience where she played an up and coming lawyer so seeing her in this role was such a shock when I looked at the cast 😂😂
@@kennyb1588 the girlfriend experience is about her in law school where she becomes an escort to pay for law school . Watching her in that and then seeing her in this, my first thought was “oh she’s going to kill this role” !

after observing the real zola in this interview, we can conclude that taylor really did a STELLAR job playing her!

The black appropriating white character is pretty underrepresented in tv and film for good reason cause it’s cringe af. But lemmie tell ya... you go to some white hoods and these types are all over the place.
It happens in any hood because these types of low income places attach to what is considered popular. It is a form of escapism. When we are young being different doesn't mean you'll be accepted. No matter what some of the popular artist say they have a huge effect on the youths no matter the race, color or culture.

Kind of random but the director said in a podcast that she almost didn't get to make this movie and that it was down to her and another director. Anyone have any idea who the other director was?
Are you referencing the A24 podcast? I just finished listening and was wondering the same thing. I think the other director was possibly James Franco? His production company bought the rights to the story years ago.
@@lilah.j Yup! =) Now that you mention it, I totally remember hearing about the James Franco thing. Completely forgot about that. Lol. It sounds like a likely possibility, doesn't it? This was actually my first time listening to the podcast. I've seen A24 promoting it from time to time in their emails but never actually bothered to listen. I'm glad I did though. It felt very fresh and insightful. Have you listened to any of the other episodes? I definitely want to check out the rest now when I get a moment.

I'm glad I didn't actually read the whole Zola Twitter thread when it first happened. From what little the teaser trailer showed, it looks pretty good and not really knowing all the details makes me even more excited to see it. Also, since we're talking podcasts and all, I don't know if you are aware of the comedian Marc Maron and his podcast WTF? Although he definitely made his name as a comedian, he studied film in undergrad and features a lot of filmmakers on his show. He is a really, really good conversationalist and you can definitely tell he has a true love for the medium as a whole. I've been listening to his show since it started like 10 years ago and it has remained super consistent in terms of quality and always featuring interesting guests. You should definitely check it out if you are not already aware. -S

Your movie sucked. Shame on you for liposuctioning the best parts of these Twitter stories and essentially nullifying the potential. This could have been a total Rashomon moment with 3 perspectives flying around in a high energy atmosphere and end it with the wild, true ending! This movie was neutered by an incompetent director. The actors were all bomb though and deserved better.
