      The game makes 0 effort to teach it to players. In fact, most of us have seen this Stat in action but it is impossible to understand what's going on unless you sit down and research it. I really like Hardness. It gives another layer of deepness to weapon selection. Thank you for your comment.

    Didn't think anything of Hardness until I started using Dragonbolt Blessing just to see how it was. I was shocked at some of the heavy attacks that bounce off of it. It completely clowns on any enemy with fast dangerous combos with one-handed weapons like dual-greatsword Banished Knights, Imps, almost any sword-and-shield enemy, etc. Also gives you space if you're swarmed by lighter enemies like dogs. Combined with high poise it makes you an absolute tank, since you're not flinching and every attack stuns the aggressor.

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  Год назад +1

      Absolutely. Hardness matter when it comes to both offense and defense. As you said, it very easy to deal with enemies if they are getting staggered every time they hit you. I am glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate your comment.

    Good video!! I just started playing Elden Ring and though I hadn't seen this hardness mechanic described in the game I found it kind of intuitive in a way especially with simple enemies.

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  Год назад +2

      It is possible to get a basic understanding of it from gameplay. A bit like "small sword bounces off big shield", but there are exceptions and specific rules that go unexplained and it could really shape weapon choice for a player. I wish it would be more transparent, because it is a very interesting Stat. Thank you for your comment.

  • @AegisKHAOS
    @AegisKHAOS Год назад +11

    Didn't necessarily know this stat existed, but I definitely learned its presence the (heh) HARD way. ;p
    Pretty much why I initially carried a club with me for enemies like miners before I got better weapons. Eventually I began doing alot of jump attacks, too, especially power stancing. I have yet to do sword and board play as I find power stancing, two handing, and ash spamming too much fun, though I came close with 'The Wall'.
    Also, attacking dog pope is heartless.
    This is the first time I've seen a vid on this topic, so thanks for making it.

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  Год назад

      I was in a similar situation to you. At first, I thought that it was about the damage type. That's why I had a club or hammer with me at all times. Once I actually began to research this topic, I found out that it was much deeper. I really like Hardness. I think it's a good idea. I just wished that the game would explain it to us. Thank you for your comment.

    • @droopybeagle

      This is really interesting to know, I thought it was to do with weapon bluntness/sharpness with blunt weapons being able to deal with miners. Good to know it’s actually a hardness mechanic

    • @AegisKHAOS
      @AegisKHAOS Год назад

      @@droopybeagle Indeed it is. I was wondering why certain weapons that looked like they could bash rock still bounced off of miners. If I had known that two handing weapons also disregarded hardness, I wouldn't have worried about switching to a different weapon type so much.

      This is common. Most players have seen this Stat in action because they have bounced off an enemy before, but the game makes 0 effort to teach it to us. You are right:
    if you dont care about "hardness", it dont care about you too :D did some dex builds and learned it the most given way: it confronted me several times :D i think one good example for the early game, where you meet this "strong-boy", is the crucible knight in the stormhill evergaol: this enemy is hard as f**k in the beginning as a beginner and you WILL (if you choose to go for some low weight weapons) meet this mens power of "you shall not pass!".

      @FrownyGaming I kid you not, I had NO IDEA this hardness was a thing in the game lol, I kinda wish it was somewhere in the stats of equipment. Also, I don't understand why leveling up a shield, only highers its damage but does not upgrade the physical damage negation when blocked. I guess it would level up its hardness level? Lol

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  Год назад

      @@DWN-024ShadowMan Upgrading shields generally increases damage and guard boost. The guard boost makes it useful, but I never upgrade a shield to +25/+10. I would really appreciate it if Hardness would be a Stat that shows up on the weapon info. It could give other shields more use like making a heavier shield have more Hardness. Sure it's heavier, but it makes everything bounce. It could lead to more variety and that's always nice.

    Doesn't the hardness mechanic usually not work at all in PvP? It seems that for shields and blocking, hardness doesn't matter/work in PvP. But it does seem to work for things like the IronJar aromatic or Dragonbolt Blessing buffs. It's really annoying that shield hardness doesn't seem to matter for PvP because it just contributes to shields not feeling that strong (Fingerprint shield aside, as it's an extreme outlier).

    • @FrownyGaming
      @FrownyGaming  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hardness is definitely different in PvP. I have no idea how it would affect it if Hardness remained the same for shields. I would imagine that attacks that skip the mechanic would be more important. Things like jump attacks and charged R2’s. I agree it’s a shame. I really like the mechanic. Thank you for your comment.

      This is unfortunate. I was not aware that the mechanic is different in PvP.
      The shield poker definitely should have rebounded, following the theory. And the straight swords would have depended on which attack. Dual wield Straight Swords like to jump L1 a lot, and those would definitely not be affected. Thank you for your comment.

      @FrownyGaming  Год назад +1

      Well shit... I did not even think of testing this. What a good question.
      So, I started my game up and starting hitting the wall with multiple weapons. Every weapon I tested bounced off the wall at some point. Even the Coded Sword. That said, not all attacks bounced off. It depended on distance from the wall, angle of the attack, and possibly other factors.
      As a result... Do walls have Hardness? Yes. That said, walls seem to have conditions that are different from the standard ones that we see on enemies and weapons. As a general rule of thumb, don't hit walls. It could become troublesome. Thank you for your comment.
