- Nürburgring NLS Race 4 MEGA CRASH & RAIN CHAOS at Hatzenbach - ROWE 6 Hour Race 2024
After the first lap of the ROWE 6 Hour race, a heavy rain showing hit the Hatzenbach section, while all drivers were on full slicks. This caused multiple crashes and resulted in the race being RED flagged.
Fortunately, none of the drivers got any injuries.

What a weird boat race
Indeed. The Cambridge team was warned twice for laughing at Oxford's cox. 🤭

Seeing the big crash on the Livestream was so surreal for me because I have such high respect for the drivers and their skill. Crazy crazy race

Yeah nice Helicopter ASMR right there, i know its not on u AA but can those guys maybe turn up the volume of the heli a little bit ?
Was there watching the race and it was the quickest cars that crashed and the nicest looking so that was pretty sad.
Manthey retiring because of the incident in the paddock the day earlier was also sad.
@@nakamishi5518 Heard about the incident after I had left Nürburg
@@_milksession Yeah, we heard the police sirens coming. I was there 10 minutes earlier on a backstage guide, missed it by an inch.
2:28 He almost hit the upcoming car!
yeah, what he does is super dangerous, not even once, but twice, where he is rolling towards passing cars.
Safety first.
Ever.
I already can imagine the comments if this Was the 24h race. Things like:
- just a bit rain, let them drive
- I thought the are experts. Why are they so bad?
- even my 2yo daughter who is blind can drive better than that
I agree with you. Safety first, EVER.
Barry R. was very greedy today
It seems unusual these days to have an old-school helicopter covering the action. [I like it, by the way.] Does anyone know if large, 'industrial' multi-rotor camera drones are able to operate effectively in bad weather?
Is a helicopter just more practical/reliable on a circuit like the Nürburgring?
(Not being critical, just genuinely curious.)
I‘m not an expert by any means but I think that because of the length of the race a helicopter is more practical because with drones you would need to refuel (recharge?) them. The only thing I can say with certainty is that they also use a helicopter during sunny wether conditions.
The nice thing about a helo is that the cars twenty seconds or so behind can tell exactly where the lead car is on the track!
@@mageyannik2731 at fanatac Gt World challenge at the Ring they also used small drones (dji mavic or smaller)

Quoting Senna as excuse to hit the barriers is just so far from using your brains!

That of all the cars that were shown only the third car managed to save itself.
it impacted before and was alreadz slowed down.
unfortunately the 3rd car (falken porsche) didn't restart the race after the redflag (or I'm blind)

That was more like 6 seconds than 60!
Whoops.
Ok, I am American. That will explain most of my ignorance. lol. My question is: Does German car insurance cover losses which were obviously caused by reckless driving and unsafe speeds on a racetrack? My comment is not supposed to be controversial. Thanks if someone can answer.
Are you asking about during a race or on tourist drives? For races, there are special race insurances. On tourist drives, it depends. Most of them exclude racetracks.
I just heard that there was a explosion at Nurburgring paddock is that right??
Yes, in the paddock on Friday afternoon, it was a gas cylinder exploding.

They need to fix that section of the track. It's undrivable and NOT fun.
Is there a reason why they didn't come in to change tyres in heavy rain at the beginning of an extremely long lap?
Seems like they got the position they deserved for that.
Good question
its really hard to correctly estimate the weather conditions correctly for the 20km track
Tracks are long places. I've been to several events where it was raining on one part of the track and dry on the other side. The Nurburgring is huge. If you come in for wet tires, not only are you taking the time to pit, but you're also gambling on the whole track being wet enough that wet tires will survive. That's not always the case, as some parts of the track can be wetter than others. Wet tires need water to last, and if your gamble doesn't work out, you have a 25km lap to run on tires that are destroying themselves in short order, and another pit stop to make. It's a lot of time to lose.
@@cakeandshoes3049 exactly, it can rain on one part of the track, while the other 75% of the track is still dry
Heavy rain was expected to last 10min, which it did. If you survived those bad parts, you might lose few enough time to make it worth to stay on slicks, instead of pitting twice for dry-wet-dry

Alex Lynn is anything but an amateur. They all got caught out by a sudden downpour. It happens.
I was at Watkins Glen this year for the Sahleen's Six hour race and at one point it was raining so bad even the cars that put wet tires on were struggling.
@@ceeinfiniti1389 I watched that race. That rain was crazy.
@@ceeinfiniti1389 You have though that circuit like Nurburgring would have some sewage system or drainage for all that water to collect. But obviously not.
