@@rokkitkit Been enjoying your videos during this strange time. I hope you and your family is well and a new job is around the corner. Stay positive. - Eddie in NC, USS
Listening to your comments on the latest live stream Rod - this is my favourite kind of vid. The whole experience, trip to, tactics, competition and all. Love it.
Really enjoy the down to earth vibes when explaining the comp, and the kayak fishing community in general. Makes me encouraged to give it a shot! Hoping to make the trip down from Brisbane to Palm Beach to see the pros at work sometime soon
Nice vid Rod, good to see you in front of the camera talking more about your journey and the sport. Always enjoy your vids and keep up the great efforts. cheers.
Love the talking bits personally. Definitely adds to the video IMO. I keep saying it, but that dollie really is a beautiful fish- next time the blue water comes in nice and close I'll have to see if I can manage one for myself!
Yet another reason why I (and most everyone here I presume) subscribe to your channel Rod - the longer video and chat time is great! Keep up the brilliant work. Great catch with the mahi mahi too - jealous haha!
great video! you have a very good camera presence so the talking bits are fine. it also allows the viewers to get to know you as well😀. would be interesting to see a 30 second clip of how you make your rigs? 👌👌👌👌👍
As always, fun vid! Watching you wait for the perfect gaff shot on the Mahi made me chuckle since it's the reason I favor my hook gaff over a spear gaff. Also, every time I watch one of your videos it makes me want to go test out a Stealth kayak! Good thing I'm broke or else the Mrs would complain about me ordering another yak!
Great video mate... well done!! I'm an Aussie kayak fisher living in the UK for past 16 years but looking forward to moving back home in 2019. Can't wait to get into kayak fishing when I return! Your vids are really inspiring! I'm a new subscriber for sure! Thanks again for your efforts mate.. keep it up!! Tight lines!! 😎👍 Dave.
longer format, yay! lots of knowledge to gain just from listening to the camera chit chat and watching the prep. dope vid as usual, if you aren't getting paid to edit film you should be.
Thanks mate, Im do spend a lot of time on the computer doing Graphic/product design as my job... just started mucking around with the editing after I got into kayak fishing and brought a GoPro to play with... who knows in the future, would love to do more editing and fishing for that matter. Cheers Rod
Another great vid mate, the Mahi would certainly taste good and be a welcome catch, your in car shots reminded me of the way they set up the 'in car' shots on Top Gear. I was over at Moreton recently and ended up surrounded by small schoolie type Mackeral whilst snorkelling. I've also had a shot at those 'scum' lines off PBR as you may have seen some really small fish lurking in them....
nice video mate as always.. just wondering if you could do a video on the rig you use and how to rig a pilly up.. im keen to chase some macs at palmy 😎 cheers mate keep up the good work
Yea I always planed to but the two cameras on the kayak ran out of power on the paddle back, plus I got in after everyone had weighted in so missed most of the action. Also I kind of dropped the ball a bit when it came to filming when I got back in... will definitely get some good footage next time :)
It might not be about winning, but ... did you place? Nice fish. live your videos, watch them religiously! I fish out of a yak in Vic, can only wear shorts once or twice a year 😉
No place this year! We where having a good time fishing and although doable we knew it would be a bit of a stretch to make it in before weigh in so Ant (a mate) and I decided to not to make weigh in and enjoy the day, so no fish caught could be counted. If i had weighed in I would have been around 5th place, I think... Ant would have won if he had a camera and made weigh in! So like I said its not about winning :) Thanks for watching the vids, yea we don't get too many months of cold weather here thats for sure. Cheers Rod
Hey Steve, yea response has been positive which is great, will keep at it. Got your message and still on board for sure. Bear with me while i get it together :)
Nice! I reckon the more talking you do the better because I can learn more things like how you compare the tail of the pillies etc. Can you do a video on the rigs you use? I've tried trolling hard bodies with no success and want to give trolling baits a go! Thanks mate
Thanks for the feedback, yea looks like the rigs videos has to happen soon... by far to most request video recently. Will give it a crack when time allows.
Hey @roKKiT KiT! Your videos are amazing. I have to agree on Key West Kayak, your longer videos are amazing. :) Keep up the good work! I do have a quick question for you. I was wondering what the mount and arm is for your camera. I know the wire is the external battery. Just wondering on your attachment :D
Top catch in the yak mate. Can u give me a heads up to the stick and overhead real used on that dolphin. Looks like something I am trying upgrade to with the nice tip but strong but. How did u go in the comp?
The rod and reel used was the Penn Torque 30 Stardrag, Penn Powercurve Reload 15-20kg rod. This rod has plenty of lift and the action is still medium/light but if you want a nice light tip check out the 10-15kg Gx2 uglystiks. This what I have been using on a lot of my other setups.
Always nice watching your videos, keep them coming. Why do you put a weight on top of your bait, doesn't that cause it to swim up side down? I'm use the the weight going on the bottom of the bait, on your lead hook.
How do you decide when to run your bait up side down, when targeting different species, light conditions, water viz? It is something that I have never seen so find it very interesting and keen to try it here in ZA. Here if your bait doesn't swim 100% your chances of hooking up is not good.
Love Noosa. Go every year around easter time. This year was a bit shady cause of the cyclone but still managed to pull a few decent ones out. How fast do you reckon you are trolling? (in knots)
Cheers Mate, My roof racks are Thule Aero Bars with Lock racks attached. The Lockracks are pretty cool no need to use starts and harder to steal the kayak. Check them out here: lockrack.com.au
Yep get out there mate, Im sure your be into it. Yea I like to fish any where I can but tend to gravitate to offshore on the kayak... am starting to do a bit more inshore and had a few cracks at bass in some local canals but still lots to learn thats for sure. Cheers Rod
Hey mate, I have not paddled one of the Dragon kayaks before but have paddled many plastics around that length so I am guessing it will be much the same. Should be good for a first kayak but depends on what kind of fishing you keen to do, it definitely more suited for inshore work. I would go for something longer (around 4m) if your thinking offshore. Not to say it can't be done as I started on a 2.4m BCF special and took it out to the reef plenty of times... but not really ideal. Let me know if you have more questions and Ill do my best to help. Cheers Rod

Most of my trips are short before work and before the sun gets to intense in the morning, so no need for ice. The Noosa Comp is a bit of a tricky one, as it is a longer day and is usually pretty sunny. I have ice in the car ready to go as soon as I hit the beach but this year I decided to take some tech ice wraps for these longer days. I have eaten all the fish caught on these days in the past and they have been fine, but I think they could have been that bit better chilled, especially if I want to eat them raw. Cheers Rod
I keep paddling when i get a hit trolling as it keeps the pressure on the line and sets the hook and gives me time to slightly turn into the rod that's on, that way I can get pulled away from the other lines if all goes well. Also when you keep paddling you can often get the double hook up from another excited fish in the school.

Yep always cool to have a nice group of guys launching and out on the water
Awesome video! The longer the better! Hello from Texas!
Cheers mate, yea i was worried it would be too much of me just talking... response seem positive so far.
No, the more you speak of your journey the better. But you make great videos don't change anything other than different days with different fish.
Very nice video man! I really like how you have your kayak Rigged and all your rod and reel combos look great!
Cheers mate, yea all my Rod and Reel combos have to be able to take a beating in the saltwater :)
sick content mate, loved the edit and everything, also nice dolphin fish :)
Good post! I'm up here in Okinawa Japan, and would love to see more Kayak fishing tourneys.

Always nice watching your videos, keep them coming.
Why do you put a weight on top of your bait, doesn't that cause it to swim up side down?
I'm use the the weight going on the bottom of the bait, on your lead hook.
Yea I run a lot of my baits upside down to avoid belly blow out and to make them stand out more against the light surface.
How do you decide when to run your bait up side down, when targeting different species, light conditions, water viz?
It is something that I have never seen so find it very interesting and keen to try it here in ZA.

Love Noosa. Go every year around easter time. This year was a bit shady cause of the cyclone but still managed to pull a few decent ones out. How fast do you reckon you are trolling? (in knots)
Yea Noosa a is a great spot, lots of fishing options too. I average around 8-9kms so around 4.3knots.
thanks for that 🤘

hey rokkit kit i was just wondering if you knew anything about the dragon pro fisher 2.8 fishing kayak, If its any good. also love your vids
Hey mate, I have not paddled one of the Dragon kayaks before but have paddled many plastics around that length so I am guessing it will be much the same. Should be good for a first kayak but depends on what kind of fishing you keen to do, it definitely more suited for inshore work. I would go for something longer (around 4m) if your thinking offshore. thankyou and it is for a bay targeting whiting and snapper
Look for the dragon hunter 4m

Incredible footage! Quick question, what size paddle do you use on your Stealth? Keep up up the awesome work! Always look forward to your vids!
Thanks Austin, my paddle is 210cm. Cheers Rod
Thank you Rod :)
do you need 1 of these fancy kayaks for these fishing comps , i just got a old dragon kayak , i only saw these fancy things
Not at all, you can enter and paddle any kayak 👍
@@rokkitkit might have to give it a go im from hervey bay never done a surf launch before
Beautiful footage. What kind of camera?
Thanks Mate, GoPro Hero3+ for the front and pole cams. Hero5 Black for the chest.
Outstanding. In the past, I've thought the Go-Pros exhibited the unpleasant "fishbowl" effect, but your videos don't appear to have those flaws.
Hey Rod
How many meters of 30lb braid you squeeze onto your Spinfisher 4500?
Shot maaaaate
I dont have a 4500 SpinfisherV but I have a Slammer 3... i cant really remember but I would have thought about 180-200m
RoKKiT KiT
Lol yeah mate no sponsor here so its handline whole day😂😂😂
Nice video, good job!!! keep it coming lol
Thanks mate, yep more in the pipe line.
Nice, man. Always.
Cheers Fred, will be in contact soon.
RoKKiT How are you liking the Slammer 3 reel?
Yea the Slammer 3 is now my Spin reel of choice... I will be replacing all my SpinfisherVs and the Clash with them from here on. The reel is better in most ways but the biggest game changer is the IPX6 seals... on the kayak the reels gets a dunking almost every trip.
Queston why didnt you use on of the smaller taylor that you let go for a mackerel in your out her video
This one was a while ago so I'm not sure, but it would have most probably been because I had better bait that trolled better... maybe 😅
Nice dolly maye!
I have a vw Gti and am in need of a roof rack, I really like yours what kind of rack is that?
Thule racks. Aero bars i think..
Your icemule coolers is it the 23 liter?
The big grey fish bag is the 42" one. The small blue cooler bag is 15lt.
Where did you get your battery from and how much did it cost
I got my battery from MX store and it cost about $160
What line do you use on your penn clash 2
The clash had some 20lbs coloured braid that changes very 10 meters so I know how deep it is sinking.
how many miles do you think you paddle a trip?
Depends on how much time I have... most trips would be before work, so around 15 - 20km (9-12.5miles). But at a long comp day up to 40km (25miles)
RoKKiT KiT how do you have energy to go to work afterwards ?
Do you simply just rinse the saltwater off?
Im guessing your talking about the reels... yep I just give them a hose off after each trip, then they get a service once a year.
RoKKiT KiT
Really? And they stay that shiney?
Yep, my reels get used a few times a week so they are always pretty clean. The camera doesn't show the scratches up much from the kayak abuse but they are minor.
Nice kayak!
Thanks Mate! Yep, she's a fancy fishing ski for sure.
Awesome vid,
Thanks for checking it out mate!
Did you win the tournament?
I won the previous two years but this time it all happened too late... buy the time a caught a decent fish I was so far away from launch I couldn't get back to weigh in on time. Even if i did get back I think I would have only been good for third... which is what I got last year as well :) Will need to up my game for 2019!
awesome love youre vidz

Wicked vid!
What was your placement on tournament?
I actually did not end up weighing in that year.. I had come first the two previous years and in this vid had missed a few good chances, was not until the very end that I managed to get a decent fish and by that time me and a mate had decided to just slowly make our way back after weigh in. The 2018 Noosa comp is next week so Im pumped to regain the crown... maybe :)
Don't you need ice in there to keep the fish edible?
Most of my trips are short before work and before the sun gets to intense in the morning, so no need for ice. The Noosa Comp is a bit of a tricky one, as it is a longer day and is usually pretty sunny. I have ice in the car ready to go as soon as I hit the beach but this year I decided to take some tech ice wraps for these longer days. I have eaten all the fish caught on these days in the past and they have been fine, but I think they could have been that bit better chilled, especially if I want to eat them raw. Cheers Rod
love it
Why do you keep paddling when you have a fish on and taking drag
I keep paddling when i get a hit trolling as it keeps the pressure on the line and sets the hook and gives me time to slightly turn into the rod that's on, that way I can get pulled away from the other lines if all goes well. Also when you keep paddling you can often get the double hook up from another excited fish in the school.
RoKKiT KiT oh smart would you be able to do a video on how your connect your fish finder please
que linea usas?
JORGE RL no creo que sepa español..

Thanks mate, I get caught up in the fun of it and don't bother thinking about anything that could go wrong... She'll be right :)
Is that grey hair I see buddy?
It sure is, Its comping in fast since the kids :)
Why don't you carry a fish bag on the kayak to throw the fish on ice?
Most of my trips are short before work and before the sun gets to intense in the morning, so no need for ice. Thanks Mate
aren't you scared of sharks?
I tend not to worry about them... they are usually only sniffing around for a free feed of fish.
U should get a hobie
Hobies don’t stand a chance in some of the surf I launch in... many try and fail and are left on the beach... then they all end up buying skis like mine, when they have had enough punishment and broken gear😆 hobies are still a great kayak just not very good in the surf.
