Music Mike, thank you for posting this version of Happy. In my junior year 1986-1987, at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. I met the one, I fell for her hard and fast. She was my Princess. This song describes what I felt then and what I feel about her now. Now I know why this song affects me like it does. Her birthday was July 15, 1967. It seems as if this song was written for her. I was not ready for her when we met and I lost her. I have seen many woman since then but she is the only one I think about. Thank you again for letting me remember about the best time of my life.

I really love this song. I never heard it when it came out in 1967. I did here the Sunshine Company's version here in Southern California but I really like this Blades Of Grass version. Sometimes I play it like 10 times in a row.

The Blades of Grass were managed by the late, Walter Gollender. He was my friend and mentor. I'll never forget the story he told me about the time he was on the circuit with this group in 1967. The Doors were playing in the same arena on the West coast, and he asked Jim Morrison: "Why The Doors? Why not... The Windows?" Needless to say, Walt Gollender was a legend in the music business. He teamed songwriters, Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown, who went on to write those hit songs for Tony Orlando and Dawn, including the smash hit, Tie A Yellow Ribbon. Thanks for posting this song Music Mike! It makes me Happy.

There are many songs which should be massive hits but dont and this gem is another of those .Beautiful harmonies and lush strings struggled against the hippy , psychedelic, progressive music of the time but great songs as such will always shine through ❤

This is a lot more melodic and sweet sounding than the Sunshine Company's version...but both are good.

Music Mike, I don't know if you still monitor comments on your songs, but as a fellow musicologist, I prefer this version of "Happy" over "The Sunshine Company's" version---this has a very "British Invasion" feel to it with the harmonies and orchestratioj, whereas "The Sunshine Company's" version definitely has that folk-rock Southern California vibe to it... this is a top-notch track---thank you for sharing it!

The Sunshine Company's version did get some airplay locally but not this one. This one has a far better melody and should have been promoted more. Nothing better than seeing the actual 45 playing as I never cared for remastered or doctored stuff.

Would love to know what happened to these musicians and how it happened that two groups released the same record at the same time.

Douglas Mark of The Sunshine Company became a member of Redeye. They put out two albums, and had a big hit called "Games" that was from the first one.
