2023 was indeed a surprisingly strong year for what we thought was the last year of the Switch's life, especially when it comes to new games and not a year of remakes. However 2017 has the edge because it was all brand new coming off a failed system of Wii U so the high's really matter because we still had the future ahead of us.
I got mine january 2023 :3 i loved everything of it, and omg i can imagine how exciting it was to play these games at their first days of launch, like zelda or mario odyssey ^^ just know it is amazing, im looking forward for 2024 as a good year aswell, since they already started well with Mario vs DK or the Princess Peach demo, that is foreshadowing an amazing game! Hope this year is as good as 2021-2023 or better!
I got my Switch in early 2018. Literally the same day I bought my switch was when the day the first reveal teaser came out for Smash Ultimate. So for me it has been hype since day one.
E3 2021 was such a score for Nintendo. The Dread reveal alone is a top Switch moment for me. I still watch Arlo’s reaction to it for the pure excitement factor. Felt like we were finally getting out of the pandemic slump.
2017 is well deservedly S-tier however it's also important to remember that at the start of Switch launch, outside of BOTW, there weren't a huge cluster of bangers right up against each other. Mario Odyssey didn't come out until later in the year, and we had Wii U ports filling in gaps. Fast RMX was dope at launch if you needed a break from BOTW, because I did honestly. I love ARMS as well but it's not exactly a S tier game or even A-tier... let's say B.
Astral Chain was a huge surprise hit to me... and Luigi's Mansion 3 still is gorgeous as fuck. Kirby and the Forgotten Land was also a surprise winner cuz I am not a Kirby game person. Ring Fit Adventure is a legit great and tough workout
I don’t think there’s a definitive year that’s my favorite since most of my favorite games are all spread out. it’s definitely nice to have atleast 1 game i’ll love come out from nintendo every year
My ranking from best to worst: 1) 2023 - Pikmin 4 was basically my most anticipated game for the entirety of the Switch's life, Future Redeemed was a fantastic DLC for Xenoblade 3, Mario Wonder and Tears of the Kingdom were also great. 2) 2017 - Kicked the Switch off with a bang. Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey were all fun in my eyes. 3) 2022 - Kirby, Xenoblade 3, Bayonetta 3, Sparks of Hope, all pretty solid! Legends Arceus was also decent and is the one Pokemon game that has grabbed my interest during the Switch era. 4) 2019 - Astral Chain is still one of my favourites on Switch to this day, also loved Luigi's Mansion 3, Ring Fit Adventure and Fire Emblem Three Houses. 5) 2021 - Not bad, Metroid Dread was the highlight, can't think of much else from that year that I thought was great. Bowser's Fury was also decent. 6) 2018 - Mostly Wii U ports that I already played from that console so an underwhelming year for me personally, but Smash and Torna were the standouts of original releases for me. 7) 2020 - Understandably last due to world issues at the time, when New Horizons is my pick for GotY despite personally being greatly disappointed by it, I don't think it could get any worse.
2017: banger year. First time I went back into gaming since the Wii era. BOTW one of the best games ever made. 2018: good year but all I played was DKCTF and Smash. 2019: was great but not a huge banger like 2017. 2020: bad due to covid and barely any games released. 2021: great cause of Metroid Dread. That is a top 3 switch game for me. 2022: worst year for me alongside 2020. Im mainly a Mario and Zelda person so only game I bought was Skyward Sword remake. 2023: best year of gaming in a very long time. TOTK, Mario Wonder and Metroid Prime remaster were solid titles
Doom being ported (and ported well) was also another big part of 2017. It was the first third party 'impossible' port and showed what was capable on the system with some effort. It also broadened the Switch's library with a style of game not typically found on Nintendo.
Got mine one year after the launch. Wanted to wait a while to see how things go with all the hype of the Switch, and I loved it. Got it at the end of Feb 2018 with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey. Got Breath of the Wild a little over a month later, and that game was one of my favorite games. I think the first 3 years of the Switch were exciting times.
2019 was the best year: Luigi's Mansion 3, Dragon Quest XI S, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Link's Awakening, Super Mario Maker 2, Pokemon Sword & Shield, Yoshi's Crafted World, Astral Chain, Ring Fit, Cadence of Hyrule, Untitled Goose Game, Wargroove, Collection of Mana, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Astral Chain, Tetris 99.
Great video! I personally would put 2020 in B even for Nintendo standards because Animal Crossing is just too heavy of a hitter. Definitely got me through the pandemic, and was my favorite time during the Switch's life. I also think 2018 should be a low A because the Smash hype was too real lol. Finally, I would flip 2023 and 2017, but other than that great tier list! Oh, and yeah 2024 is looking straight D material (pause) for me 😂. But that makes sense.
Great video! I agree with a lot of what you said. The switch has been pretty amazing for RPGs, stuff like Octopath Traveller/Star Ocean and Bravely Default. Great beatemups too, these have been my go to for some multiplayer content at parties if we've had enough mario kart or smash bros, like the turtles collection/shredders revenge or streets of rage. Can't forget all the hours of fun on the virtual console stuff for an old timer(29) like me to reminisce with the stuff from my childhood on the big screen or in handheld. The switch has been all around so freakin fantastic every year, I'm glad I decided to give it a chance, I've been off of video game consoles since like PS2/Gamecube or xbox 360.
Pokémon sword and shield had me playing my switch for HOURS 🔥 I sold my switch a while ago because I’m too busy with editing and RUclips to play it.. but this channel might just make me get my OLED back 🙏🏼
Since I've only had my Switch as of late 2020 I totally agree with this list. 2020 was a good year for me since I could buy games from the previous three years
Great take Josie😀 for me three houses brought me back to gaming so 2019 was a great year for me. 2020 with Animal crossing new Horizons that I still play from time to time.
I only started playing Switch last year and still haven't played a lot of games but based on the games I know about I think my hunch would be to say 2017, 2019 and 2022 would be my favorites.

C tier would be for 2020. Solid stuff. I enjoyed your rankings.

I got a lot of love in my heart for 2018 strictly because of the Switch DKC Tropical Freeze port. Never had a Wii U to play it originally. Greatest platformer of all time in my opinion.
2023 is easily the best year of the console. They've had so many bangers like Tears of The Kingdom, Pikmin 4, and Super Mario Bros Wonder. When it comes to 2024, I've been very frustrated with how Nintendo has been handling this year. They haven't had a major Direct yet and they've left us questioning what their backup plans are. The only thing that can save this year from being worse than 2020 is if they have a Direct, Metroid Prime 4 comes out, and there's at least 1 more new game that's not a port.

The Switch probably has one of the best 1st party lineups in all of gaming history. Plus this video does not even mention the great third party titles we’ve seen from other developers during the switch’s lifetime.
Actually I just got off Violet. And none of the negativity BS about this game doesn't exist. That's "programmed talk" like if you actually check it out not from the day it came out, it isn't the same. The game is phenomenal. Online hate if you want this game is definitely worth it. I drop the mic 🎙️
Day 1: "I will not buy a Switch until Nintendo upgrades the processor because I've already bought two of every handheld Nintendo has ever made, I will only buy one Switch and it will be the best version" Day 2,555 "I WILL NOT BUY A SWITCH UNTIL NINTENDO UPGRADES THE PROCESSOR!!!" Much as I hate having not played any modern Nintendo games, with everything we know about Joycon drift I'm halfway glad I skipped the entire system. Fingers crossed Super Switch fixes everything wrong with the Switch.
1. 2017 (not even a discussion) 2. 2019 3. 2023 4. 2018 5. 2021 (Sora being in smash bros is enough for me to put it this high) 6. 2022 (probably the most overrated year) 7. 2020 (the smash dlc character trailers and ACNH carried that year) 8. 2024 so far (Ik this one the few last years of switch life cycle but from what we know, if this is the game lineup that were having for the rest of the year then.........💀)
2023 > 2017 mostly because Zelda BotW was the only game really to come out in '17. The Switch dayview didnt have a Mario game really and Odyssey took a while to come out. Also next to TotK, Pikmin 4, Mario Wonder, and Prime Remastered there was Super Mario RPG along side better NOS stuff with GameBoy and GameBoy Advance games coming to the NOS. And FZero99 was so fun! Also the Nintendo Directs all felt 🔥
2017 S tier 2018 A tier - Idk smash bros and Pokémon yellow remake was too good. Probably had the best holiday of games that year. 2019 A tier - 2020 C tier 2021 B tier - Metroid dread enough said 2022 B tier 2023 A tier - Zelda and Mario wonder ❤️
I think nintendo will port switch games to the next console. Playstation has proved even with backwards compatibility you can get away with it. See last of us an last of us part 2
2023 was indeed a surprisingly strong year for what we thought was the last year of the Switch's life, especially when it comes to new games and not a year of remakes. However 2017 has the edge because it was all brand new coming off a failed system of Wii U so the high's really matter because we still had the future ahead of us.
For me, the Switch was peak when Smash dropped, then kept adding characters in.
Still one of my most played games on Switch 🔥🎮
Absolutely, it was the best time to be a Switch user🙏🏼
Didn’t get a switch until 2023. I bet some of these years were mad hype to experience in real time
Same

The Switch sound, when she said “F**k” was hilarious and genius 😂😂

how dare you not having a wii u!
@ I had GCSEs and A Levels during that era so focused on education first
Metroid Dread got me to play the other Metroid games too cause it was sooooo awesome!
Welcome to Metroid 😁

I just bought Kirby and the forgotten land on Amazon so I’m excited 😊
in 2020 there was also Paper Mario Origami King... it was normal game
2019 was the best year: Luigi's Mansion 3, Dragon Quest XI S, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Link's Awakening, Super Mario Maker 2, Pokemon Sword & Shield, Yoshi's Crafted World, Astral Chain, Ring Fit, Cadence of Hyrule, Untitled Goose Game, Wargroove, Collection of Mana, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Astral Chain, Tetris 99.

Dude, cool channel. I feel like I'm watching NHL breakdowns, also hearing about some classics I don't have yet is great. My backlog demon thanks you.
2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023 were amazing years of the switch
Since I've only had my Switch as of late 2020 I totally agree with this list. 2020 was a good year for me since I could buy games from the previous three years
2017 can't be topped because Xenoblade Chronicles 2 came out
I feel that way about 22
This is an awesome way to take a look back and it’s hard to argue with your rankings. Another banger 🔥
Great take Josie😀 for me three houses brought me back to gaming so 2019 was a great year for me. 2020 with Animal crossing new Horizons that I still play from time to time.
We have taken the Switch for granted.... I truly hope the next console can live up to such an incredible generation

Love you Josie, keep up the great content dude
My take is an odd one.
I...find 2018 to by my favorite year of the Switch. There are a few reasons.
This was the one year where I manged to get the most games; I picked up Kirby Star Allies in spring, Mario Tennis Aces in the summer, and Super Mario Party in the fall.
I still enjoy all three of those games. Kirby Star Allies in particular has an _amazing_ post-game mode. Moreover, Super Mario Party is my favorite game on Switch. It definitely doesn't have the energy of Superstars, but there are lot of smaller parts I enjoy.

Fun list! I need to think about my own, but entirely biographical in logic. Like, I bought the switch early and loved it, but then had a kid and it started to gather dust. Fast forward to when COVID came along, and my now-three-year-old became obsessed with watching me play Spiritfairer (he liked the cat). As a result, 2020 Switch will always have such a special place for me.
…the switch gathered dust, not my kid 🙄
Every year a Xenoblade released gets S towr
I got a lot of love in my heart for 2018 strictly because of the Switch DKC Tropical Freeze port. Never had a Wii U to play it originally. Greatest platformer of all time in my opinion.
Josie you need to play Xenoblade because there's no way you mention Pokken DX over it. 😅
2019, 2022, and 2023 were my favorites years. HM for 2017. But ultimately I think 22 is my favorite
I appreciate you saying something sucks when it does. I have when people are too scared to be honest
Yea overall 2020 sucked but chilling at home during quarantine playing New Horizons just after it launched was such a great time
The Switch is the best console of all time
But it's time to move on
2017/2023 definitely the best years
Wonder is WAY better than Odyssey
I feel like 2020 was one of Nintendo's worst years overall. I understand Covid greatly impacted Nintendo's ability to deliver news on upcoming releases, but the year itself was very barren, and Nintendo made many bad decisions like limited releases for some games. Not to mention the complete silence on the future of Directs was pretty annoying, especially when they went ahead and dropped a direct randomly....For The Super Nintendo World branch in Universal Studios.
Yeah...Because that's totally what we needed during the height of the pandemic: An update on an amusement park, In Japan only (at the time) that no one is going to anyway because of said pandemic.
Bad year overall imo.
2019 was my favourite it just had everything that I was interested in
Last year was epic, no doubt. Add to that all Square Enix’s output, Final Fantasy pixel remaster and Octopath Traveler II 10/10 games and the Switch reigns. I literally bought the TOTK OLED yesterday cus im committing to the long run for it

2024.....we will see how it turns out in the end
The Switch probably has one of the best 1st party lineups in all of gaming history. Plus this video does not even mention the great third party titles we’ve seen from other developers during the switch’s lifetime.
The last seven years haven't been easy, the switch was always a nice constant
Great list! Lots of games I have yet to play!
My mouth dropped when I found out a physical copy of metroid prime remastered was coming 2 weeks
I just got the switch for the first time summer of 2023..... I've accepted that I'll never catch up to the library of games on this system
Hopefully 2025 will be at least an A tier with the Switch 2 dayview
Wtf is "dayview"?😂
Debut*
You also forgot about Shin Megami Tensei V for 2021. That was also yet another exclusive released for the Switch that was heavily teased since 2017.
I feel like the Switch has had no dry spells. When Nintendo isn't releasing something interesting, indies are taking up the slack.
Lovely. Nintendo Switch what a console.
I do reckon that it's actually destroyed its competitors
finally a normal t shirt
Actually I just got off Violet. And none of the negativity BS about this game doesn't exist. There are so many great games on the switch that I can’t even play them
Nothing to disagree with. It’s a toss up between 2017 and 2023. Both great years for gaming in general too.
I personally would’ve placed 2021 higher, but solid list. 👍
For me my switch year ranking is
1) 2017
2) 2023
3) 2019
4) 2021
5) 2022
6) 2018
7) 2020
Day 1: "I will not buy a Switch until Nintendo upgrades the processor because I've already bought two of every handheld Nintendo has ever made, I will only buy one Switch and it will be the best version"
Day 2,555 "I WILL NOT BUY A SWITCH UNTIL NINTENDO UPGRADES THE PROCESSOR!!!"
Much as I hate having not played any modern Nintendo games, with everything we know about Joycon drift I'm halfway glad I skipped the entire system.
Fingers crossed Super Switch fixes everything wrong with the Switch.
best up and coming youtuber.
You should do a take a walk through my switch style video where we see what games you’re currently playing and stuff, idk could be cool maybe
Ya I’ve been thinkin abt a what’s on my Switch video for a minute! Maybe soonish
The Metroid 2 remake on 3DS is a banger if you haven’t played that already. NGL tho hunting 40(?) Metroids can get kinda stale at times
1. 2017 (not even a discussion)
2. 2019
3. 2023
4. 2018
5. 2021 (Sora being in smash bros is enough for me to put it this high)
6. 2022 (probably the most overrated year)
7. 2020 (the smash dlc character trailers and ACNH carried that year)
8. 2024 so far (Ik this one the few last years of switch life cycle but from what we know, if this is the game lineup that were having for the rest of the year then.........💀)
I always toss between 2017 and 2022
2023 > 2017 mostly because Zelda BotW was the only game really to come out in '17.
Botw, MK8, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario+Rabbids, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2. All came out within 9 months.
Yay!!! Happy Birthday Switch!! 🎉
2017 S tier
2018 A tier - Idk smash bros and Pokémon yellow remake was too good. Probably had the best holiday of games that year.
2019 A tier -
2020 C tier
2021 B tier - Metroid dread enough said
2022 B tier
2023 A tier - Zelda and Mario wonder ❤️
Am I the only one who wants to see your grandma's list?
2019 had Astral Chain, excellent game, arguably PG's best
My vote is going to be Transformers Devastation... I'm a little biased.
hi Josie Woah
Surprised you haven't tried Monster Hunter Rise+Sunbreak? Easily... one of the best co-op online games ever.
2024, unless if Metroid Prime 4 or Donkey Kong drops. I'd rank it a C
Should I get the switch still or wait for a new Nintendo console .
The next nintendo console is likely to be backwards compatible so i reckon you should wait.
2023, 2017, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2020. Based.
Alright!
Shutting down YUZU automatically ranks them in the loswest possible tier for 2024. A very bad message by Nintendo.
do this for xbox too
I will not fight you! In 2024 DK tropical freeze is still the best platformer ^^
2022 wasn't that bad compared to 2020 or even 2024 (so far) but its one of the most overrated years for the switch console beside 1-2 games
I think nintendo will port switch games to the next console. Playstation has proved even with backwards compatibility you can get away with it. See last of us an last of us part 2
Don’t got Mario kart don’t got Splatoon two
2021 is overrated. I only bought Dread that year to support the franchise.
DKCTF IS the best platformer of all time!!!

I’m the 500th like🥳🥳🥳
3:06 were you really complaining about Sony not having exclusives ? 😅😅😅
I'd love to fill this out. Possibly make my own video. I'll tag you and maybe you can watch it.
