I’m Dutch on my mom’s side and my Oma definitely knew how to stretch a penny! She was very frugal. I’m not sure if it comes from living through the war or that the Dutch are so practical. lol! Anyway, she still always knew how to make us feel special without spending a lot! Great videos from another aspiring Hamilton painter! ❤️
I do keep a sketchbook, and currently have 3 going - one for drawings, plans, color experiments, notes from art classes, etc. One other is for paint sketches and value studies, because I can’t seem to plan a painting without doing those. Maybe when I’m more advanced I won’t need that one. And the third is for collage play. I go through them for ideas and inspiration, and would be lost without them!
I didnt know about freezing acrylics, I am in Cape Town South Africa where the climate really dries the paint quickly so this is a fantastic tip, thank you
I actually have never done embellishments on printed pieces. It's a wonderful idea to add value and detail for a customer's sake. I'm definitely going to adopt the idea in some way. I'm currently reworking website.
Hi Julia, what is your favourite GOLDEN blue paint? You did mention this in a previous up load. My Dutch father was cheap, he would drive across the city to go to a cheaper petrol station.
In the past I did not keep a sketch book as such, but I do thumb nail sketches when workiing out a composition , these were done on loose pages and stored in box or folder (when working a large painting). As I am getting older, I find I am changing my thinking and using multi media, what ever it takes to achieve the desired result. I am now using sketch book's , mostly for ideas or learning, experimental purposes, but also because it is just so much fun, with no expectations , just using colour for the love of it.🤗
@@juliaveenstraartist Thank you for all your helpful advice. I used to work with a woman who made everything from scratch and would bring in wonderful treats to work. Her Dutch & German grandmas taught her how to bake!
I have a sketchbook that takes wet and dry mediums. I use it to paint something I've never done before for practice or when inspiration arises, so that way I don't have to use a canvas. They're good to have, I think.
I so love and appreciate your videos. As an artist trying to go full on pro, you are so inspiring and I appreciate all that you share about your work and business. I don't know much about the business end of it and trying to do my research. I have a website but haven't sold through it yet because I'm not sure how to do that where I'm protected from scammers and my clients' info is protected. So much to learn these days!! LOL!!
I've never embellished a print but had considered the idea. Not sure how to successfully do it though. Are you painting all of it or just hitting some areas? Is that printed on canvas? How do you go about making a canvas print? Never sure who is best to work with to do prints without it costing a fortune.
Hehehe, in South Africa the dutch, thosevthat haven't been watered down with other bloodlines (as we are a rainbow nation), are known for and proud off the fact that they are "cheap", scroogy, turns a penny 10 x's, etc. Most of us are a mix of varous settlers. I have 1820 Irish settlers and french settlers, my dutch and french forefathers came in the 1670's, and subsequently there is Scottish (also stingy), english, spanish and then in the last 100+ years just other descendants of the above. We are truly rainbow. However, the Irish blood runs through us very, very strong, my mother was still an O'Kennedy. I enjoy all the traits of the different nations.
Just recently heard of embellished prints and didn't know how to do it, so this is very helpful. (Do you know if the process different with oil?) I don't keep a sketchbook, and was feeling guilty...but, not anymore 😊.
The Dutch people I know are definitely not cheap. I've always heard the Scottish are cheap, and that's me. I will scrape the inside of the paint tube to get the last little bit.

Hope you enjoy Wales. I have a sketch book but I find the time spent with it, I am thinking I’d rather be painting.😅

I am so glad!
I am a watercolorist and finding fun in exploring vibrant colors of acrylics. Thanks for sharing your process!

It’s a great thing to do!

I am glad to help!
I have two sketchbooks and have yet to draw in them. I'm too busy painting for our shop.
Can you see where you applied the paint…is there a difference in the surface ie. shine?
I love this ❤ Thank you 😊 subscribed now
Thanks for subbing!

do you have a finanial charging scale you use when charging for an original vs. an embellished giclee vs. a plain giclee?
Freeze your palett? Assuming you are speaking about acrylics, do you do anything other than putting an airtight cover on it?
What company makes your prints?
I do them in hamilton. 905Print.
Yes I do and I really enjoy it

Do you mean it's a print of your own painting, and then you embellish the prints ?❤
Is it a CANVAS or paper print ? Love your work. ❤
Hello! It’s a canvas print. And I paint in it!
I don’t keep a sketchbook either. I feel it takes away from my painting time
