The way I understand it, microwaves work by exciting the water molecules in food, which causes friction, which makes heat. So something like a grenade or explosives that don't really have any water in them wouldn't heat up that much in the first place. And like Sean said, it's more about using a little explosion to set off a bigger one. It makes sense to think that enough heat alone would do it, because that'll usually start a fire at some point anyway, but I guess if that were the case then explosives would be a lot more dangerous when they're just sitting around waiting to be used, and that could be a problem.
I was just about to say pretty much the same thing - powder grenades probably shouldn't have water in them so nothing's really gonna happen.
The real question is, and I haven't finished watching the whole video, What Would Happen If You Put A Molotov Cocktail in a microwave?

Actually, any conductive material will heat up in the microwave. Water is just the most conductive material expected to be found in food. Metal will heat up extremely well in the microwave, you can even use it like a forge to melt metals. However, you need to use old or modified microwave, as most new ones has safety detectors that will limit power if it detects metal. Also, do not attempt to modify microwave unles you are professional, and don't value your life too high. It has a certain transformer inside that outputs the voltage that is literally ideal to immediately kill the one who touches it.
Actually it is not the conductivity but the electric dipole moment of the molecules which is important for the heating in a microwave oven.
That's right, same is with most high explosives, they either will catch fire or nothing will happen even if you straight away light them up. They need primary explosion and the heat trapped in the shock wave to go off.
A microwave does not produce heat like a fire in a warehouse full of crates with active ammo. For them explosive to go off,a cigar into a plastic disposal is enough to set the timer.Wooden crates are the worst for storing live ammo in scenarios as such. 🔥🔥🔥💀

It's been proven that holding a live grenade for long periods of time after the pin has been removed is actually very easy and doesn't require much effort. Mythbusters made an episode about that and it was a bust.

In a ton of games you can "cook" a grenade before you throw it, aka pull pin, release lever, count to self and hope you counted right, then throw and hope it gets far enough from you before it goes boom, it's not allowed or tolerated in training from what I've heard but is taught as emergency stuff in a book...basically it's them saying "this is fucking stupid and dangerous.. But it might work, just don't do it where we'll be liable"
Yes... The government is okay if you get yourself killed pulling a stupid stunt off in combat that you've had absolutely zero practice with, so count those Mississippis well and don't over or under do it.
But seriously... Just throw it like normal or go full hero and go out with the boom ball. Untill tech advances enough that we can electronically detonate them within Pico seconds of timing that is.
@@1evn530 yeah it's an old term, not exactly sure why they used cooking as the word of all things but history is the way it is. More counting down a finicky death ball with no definitive detonation time within 1 second or less.

Rule of thumb, the older it is the less you can rely on it.
People, organisations, equipment etc, the longer it's around the less likely it will function well. A safe explosive today could be sensitive to a dog running in 100 years, or it could go neutral and do literally nothing. Don't rely on old stuff unless that particular thing is well known to work that period of time after creation,like certain guns. I could go on endlessly but I think i made my point,use stuff when and how you should and remember, the big boys only love you on home nation territory...out there? Don't bet on uncle Sam. He'll be napping with his bottle of bourbon.

The fire is from the c4. We used to use small pieces of it to boil our water or cook our food out bush (army). You light it and it burns great.

Myth busters tried something similar. I think it was if its possible to shoot a grenade out of the sky, but it disables the grenade blasting cap. So incendiary ammo might have a decent chance of failing to ignite it.

@@paulv5609 yep yep was going to say that. It absolutely positively has to have a shock wave to initiate an explosion. Its stability is why the military uses it. Stabile and about 105% the blast power of TNT.
@@joerowland607 But they also put C4 in 7.62 cartridges and scattered them around in AK mags for the NVA to use. Which entailed, the AK47's got badly damaged or the operators got the bolt flying straight back in to their face lol
It's worth noting that C4 is incredibly shock sensitive when it is burning. One guy stepped on a piece of burning C4 about the size of a marble and blew off his foot. Also, the fumes from burning C4 are very toxic. While you could cook with it, I would want to keep from breathing the fumes, or letting them contact my food. If I encountered burning C4, I would just let it burn its self out, if possible.
@@theaberrantdon Think a hot meal would be much more relevant at that point. Rather than thinking about toxicity damage in the long run. In a scenario when you're about to get shot or ambushed at any given moment and you're wet, hungry and miserable, all at the same time, a hot meal would go along way too boost moral and keep your spirits up.
