The Ukraine was always referred to with the 'the' at the time and it was thought of as a region of Russia due to their history in the USSR as the most important region and the number of powerful Soviet leaders who were from Ukraine.

The Simpsons never predicted anything actually. Such claims have been debunked long, long ago.

Therefore it was likely the 'from Russia' bit and the Ukraine mention were referencing the same place to the writers.
Most people only know this game exists from the Vhs advert.
