What a truly amazing masterpiece and the orchestra playing it kills it! The audience who get the chance warching and hearing it live is so lucky. I just watching it through the video and it idk makes me wants to cry?
I am graduating this 2020 and this soul touching piece of art makes me proud even though there is no commencement ceremony :( . Best of the best to all who are graduating this year. A year to remember for its tragedy but also for the legacy and challenges to overcome during this difficult time.
I remember hearing this for the first time at age 5 back in 1973 at a ceremony. The gravitas and solemnness of the bass notes moved me to tears even at that age.
I never knew there was more to this other than the graduation march until I watched these broadcasts. I get a laugh when people start bobbing up and down in the beginning. The white wigs are a nice touch.
No, it has nothing to do with Napoleon or his coronation in 1804. This Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 in D, Op.39 was composed by the British composer, Sir Edward Elgar in 1901. It did feature in a coronation but not Napoleon's. Elgar composed his 'Coronation Ode' for the coronation of the UK's King Edward VII and incorporated this Pomp and Circumstance March, along with lyrics written by A.C. Benson in 1902, as the final section of the 'Coronation Ode'.
I'm not sure great music 'belongs' to any nation. It might be dear to a particular nation, symbolic of it even, but great music belongs to humanity as a whole. Inspiring emotion and feeling in humans equally, no matter their place of birth.
@Faso Malawi What music is good is a subjective personal judgement. I for example hated Punk Rock, but lots of people loved it. So I'm not sure it's possible to compile a list of who was 'best' at music in the nationalistic sense. All music has a place, and in some places particular music resonates with the masses.
Premiered in Liverpool, October 19th 1901. 'Land of Hope and Glory' section lyrics added for coronation of King Edward IV in 1902. Premiered in the US in 1905 as you say.
The next time the Berlin Philharmonic performs this epic march, they should play it in memory of the legendary musical genius, Maestra Patricia Burda Janeckova, who died of cancer last year.
This reminds me how my teacher pronounced my name wrong during graduation in front of *HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE* . still graduation had it's great memories. And I still have more to make.
@@bardado7362 This was not written one century after Aida, and it has no resemblance to Verdi. If you want to hear an obvious influence, listen to the march from Sylvia by Delibes.
Assolutamente no e te lo dico da italiano. Ispirato dalla musica tedesca, da Wagner in particolare e anche dai compositori francesi quali Delibes e Offenbach
Love the idea of Simon-izing the players
Louise X me too but on the webcast
Louise X - acho lindo obrigada
She said she finds it beautiful yes and ended with thank you.
And also making a German orchestra plays a British anthemic score.
@@hermanjacobs4425 Elgar was highly influenced by German music. People forget that.

BRILLIANT !!! AND FAST !! LOVED IT THANKS SIR SIMON RATTLE . FROM U.K. (2021).
Too fast, I think. Greetings from México.
Yes for me 10 beats too fast. Good, however.
Now, THAT is the DEFINITIVE RENDITION of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance!
the world's leading orchestra

Well why not? British orchestras constantly play German music, why not the other way round.
mrsneaky2010 because there’s way more popular German music
