I played an Eastman horn for 2 years. Gorgeous sound, but lousy tuning. Sounded better than Conn or Yamaha, no question. Then got a Yamaha 567 that sounded like mud, awful. But here is the trick. Had a new lead pipe from Contesanu in Edmonton installed. Stripped all the clear coats off. That was hard. Ultra sonically cleaned. Completely different horn. Alex has done about 160 I think, and even very expensive horns have an excellent improvement. However, nothing beats hard work, practice, good lips, trained ear and a mental perception of what you wantvto sound like. A good tool does make a difference for sure, but the best tool is you brain and lips. I proved that with the Eastman horn. And I still sound better than the Conn 8D. It's in the head.
