I must add this when you are alone and you are speaking in an unknown tongue ( A tongue (language that you can't even understand) ask yourself why would the God the Universe have me speak in a language that I can even understand? Then ask yourself who does it profit? What good is it if I'm not being edified or lifted up in God. Secondly, look at 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. Now ask yourself why would God give gifts which one of the gifts is the gifts of tongues and have me to speak mysteries to myself and mysteries to them that hear me? Will this profit me and them? No! Note, 1Cor 14:2 the person speaks in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God. So, I'm I speaking to God or I'm i prayer language to God? There is no mention in the bible of a prayer language that we speak to God. But, notice what else it says "howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries". If I'm in the spirit meaning being led by the spirit of God how can I speak mysteries to men and myself? In other words I'm speaking yet, I don't understand what I'm saying, nor is there anyone to interpret. Again, I'm speaking i the spirit and man can't understand what I'm saying.Yet, God hears him, but I don't know what I'm saying to God. My friend God gifts never malfunctions. Think about this, why would God have you to speak to him in an unknown tongue when he has create all languages? Why can you speak to him in your own language? Surely, God would understand the language that he originally gave you. Men can not understand because what is going on here is not from the spirit of God. God's gifts edifies the church. The so call gift here doesn't even edifieth the person using the gift. Secondly, the gift of tongues was used on the day of Pentecost to help unbelievers. The believer in Christ were to witness to the unbeliever ( People who didn't believe in Christ). 1 Cor14:22 says," Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe . That would only mean that the followers of Christ on Jesus day who receive God's Holy Spirit and received the gift of tongues were witnessing to those who were not believers in Christ. So, why would a believer speak in tongues even in the privacy of his or her home when its a sign to the non-believer? Now you finally ask yourself sense all of this speaking in unknown tongues or speaking in tongues doesn't follow the biblical description then who is causing me to speak? If it does not go according to the word of God the Holy Bible then something is wrong. Ask yourself then what spirit or whose spirit is guiding me? Why because God is not the author of confusion. God loves us and want to save us all. He has given up a map to follow. It up to us to follow truth or error, light or darkness. This speaking in an unknown tongues in Paul day is not new. There is nothing new under the sun"Eclessiates 1:9. If you don't believe me Google "History of Ecstatic Tongues.

@Will Robinson: Pastor Skeete gave such a powerful bible-based argument on the speaking of tongues, and then ended with a comment that is not biblical. There is no where in the Bible that teachers that when in private prayer, alone and out of the range of any one else's hearing, the Holy Spirit comes upon a person and causes them to speak in a language that they themselves don't know or understand. If this happens to a person, I would argue that another spirit has come upon them.

The bible is clear that the Gift of tongues is that of a spoken and known human language. The repetitive syllables and what i like to call, gibberish, that you hear in churches today is not the gift of tongues. That is a gross misinterpretation of what the bible is actually saying. to understand the subject of tongues one must understand the definition of tongues (1100). Once you understand this you'll understand the true gift of tongues and not what is practiced today.

The miracle for the men in the crowd in Acts ch.2 was one of Hearing what the believers were saying in their native languages not one of thr believers speaking them. That is why three times in the chapter we read that the men in the crowd enquired of each other how they were hearing what the believers said in their native languages to alert us to the fact.
Paul lets us know that speaking in tongues is actually one language that " no man knows"( 1Cor.14:2).
If no man knows it then its not a language native to this world. This Paul refers to as the " unknown " tongue".
He says that when he prays in this language that his spirit prays but his understanding is unfruitful( 1Cor.14:14)
In other words Paul said that when he prays in this language that he doesn't understand what he is saying.
Twice Paul says that when he prays in this language his spirit prays. When we pray in our native language its source is our mind, but if we pray in the spirit our spirit is the source. This is possible as the result of a believer recieving the Holy Spirit.
When the Holy Spirit is recieved He joins with our spirit enabling us to speak in this spiritual language.
Lastly, there are only three instances in scripture to where we read of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved( Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19).
In each instance the first thing that happened when they recieved the Holy Spirit is that they spoke in " tongues".

If you are doing this, it does not even edify you and is not biblical and cannot be attributed to the works of God. As long as you don't say its God, and you are alone......its not necessarily a sin. 1. Does every believer have to speak in tongues?
The answer to this question is found in John 3:8:
"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou HEAREST the SOUND thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: SO IS EVERY ONE that is BORN OF THE SPIRIT." John 3:8
So EVERYONE is born the same way, no one would be exempt, not even the mother of Jesus.
After Jesus said you MUST be born of the water and of the Spirit, He further explains that EVERYONE is born of the Spirit the same way. If everyone is born the same way it is then necessary to find out how the original believers were filled with, or born of the Spirit; everyone would need to come through that same way.
Acts 2:4 gives us that early account.
"And they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
Included in this experience was Mary, the mother of Jesus, all of the original 11 disciples, and those who continued believing after the crucifixtion, burial and subsequent resurrection, about 120 souls out of the thousands that He fed, healed and they followed Him while He lived. Just a reminder of how God saved only Noah's family; God has no problem saving 8 souls, if that's all there will be out of the millions who will sincerely follow Him. Acts 1:13-15
It is important to mention after this, Peter, who was given the keys to the kingdom in Matt. 16:19, was the one who used those keys, opening the doors to the Church:
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38
The narrative continues: "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized...
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine...
And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." Acts 2:41-42, 47
So clearly this born again experience of the water and of the Spirit was the fulfillment of the Lord's requirements, saying you MUST BE born of the water and of the Spirit.
Born of the water = baptized in the name of Jesus Christ FOR the forgiveness of sins.
Born of the Spirit = receiving the Holy Spirit, with evidence to be a witness to the not yet believing.
"Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not..."
    1 Corinthians 14:22
As long as there are unbelievers there will be a use for the believer to receive the Holy Spirit speaking with tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.
Did this phenomenon continue throughout the continual building of the church till now? Yes. As the word teaches this principle:
"In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." 2 Corinthians 13:1
So let's find 2 or 3 other scriptures that testify to this truth.
Acts 10:44-48 accounts Gentiles rebirth of water and Spirit:
"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Acts 19:1-6 accounts believers who had not been properly baptized, who had to be baptized again properly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and received the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance.
The Apostle Paul testifies of his speaking in tongues, although his rebirth of water and Spirit is no detailed in Acts 9:17-18. We later learn from his teachings he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and spoke with tongues. Rom. 6:3; 1 Cor. 14:18
So we do have enough examples and biblical witnesses to draw the conclusion that Jesus' statement that with everyone there would be the sound of the believer born of the Spirit that is can be witnessed by seeing and hearing the birth of a newborn believer being born of the Spirit of Christ.

“1. Does every believer have to speak in tongues?”
      No.
Pastor Skeete covered that in the sermon, further the Bible is clear that speaking in tongues in public was the speaking of actual languages that were understood by all, or interpreted for understanding.
The speaking in tongues seen in churches today does NOT fit that description.

Remember to take in consideration also that tongues is just an old fashioned word which means languages which began at the towel of babel in Babylon, The Father with his entourage came down to see the city that nimrod and his people were building and God confound their language to put a stop to the building of the tower , He put them in confusion by confounding their language into multiple languages that they couldn't understand each other and God also scatter them over all the face of the earth so that they could not regroup, let alone understand anymore to have a intelligent conversation.
So Babel could not finish build, which before, the whole earth was one language and one speech.
On the day of pentecost God through the holy Spirit came down again and anoint the apostles and they speak one language but every one hear the gospel in their own language in which they were born.

But according to scripture even the one that you are paraphrasing, what is being manifested in today's churches is not the gift of tongues mentioned in the Bible. If you live in Jamaica and you are jamaican, you don't need the gift of tongues to preach to jamaicans. If God sends you to Haiti to preach the gospel the Spirit will give you the gift of tongues to speak Haitian-creole; but if there's a Haitian in that church that speak jamaican, you will not receive the gift of tongues, God will utilize that person to interpret for you.

    1 Corinthians 14
    New Living Translation
    Tongues and Prophecy
14 Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives-especially the ability to prophesy. 2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,[a] you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit,[b] but it will all be mysterious. 3 But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. 4 A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.
5 I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.
6 Dear brothers and sisters,[c] if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language,[d] how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful. 7 Even lifeless instruments like the flute or the harp must play the notes clearly, or no one will recognize the melody. 8 And if the bugler doesn’t sound a clear call, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle?
9 It’s the same for you. If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space.
10 There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning. 11 But if I don’t understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me. 12 And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.
13 So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said. 14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.
15 Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,[e] and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand. 16 For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying? 17 You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you. 19 But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.
20 Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind. 21 It is written in the Scriptures[f]:
“I will speak to my own people
    through strange languages
and through the lips of foreigners.
But even then, they will not listen to me,”[g]
    says the Lord.
22 So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers. 23 Even so, if unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy. 24 But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say. 25 As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”
    A Call to Orderly Worship
26 Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.
27 No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say. 28 But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.
29 Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said. 30 But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop. 31 In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged. 32 Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns. 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.[h]
34 Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. 35 If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.[i]
36 Or do you think God’s word originated with you Corinthians? Are you the only ones to whom it was given? 37 If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself. 38 But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized.[j]
39 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
      Matthew 3:11 KJV
John the Baptist made the statement (above verse), but there's NO place in Scripture where it's written or repeated again that ANYONE was ever BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY GHOST. However, there are several Scriptures that say they were FILLED with the Holy Ghost; they RECEIVED the Holy Ghost; the Holy Ghost was POURED OUT UPON them; they SHALL RECEIVE the Holy Ghost; the Holy Ghost FELL ON them. (I have the exact references for all these if you'd like them)
So, since the word "baptize" means to be "whelm", " fully wet", and "washed"; one is " baptized with the Holy Ghost" by JESUS by WASHING our hearts (minds). Or, by RENEWING OUR MINDS. The Holy Ghost/Spirit also comes with power & authority. And this happens WHEN you get baptized IN WATER in His name.

this message is good but misleading to a new convert. though i concur that not every one speaks in tongues, your audience and hopefully not you perceive like tongues were for ten and not now . Taking you to verses thatyou skipped in 1 Cor 14 from verse 1 believers are advices to desire gifts . spiritual gifts all gifts tongues includes as in the earlier chapter. the take here is that some gift are grater that other . they are great because they serve others and not self. some tongues that have no interpretation s3erves the one speaking i.e edifies the one speaking then. such speaks to God and not men according to verse two. Paul calls this mysteries even to the one speaking . read this scriptures before you think am off line
1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.
2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.
3 But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.
4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified
Paul and you both advises that we should pray for gifts that edifies others than self but that doesn't mean that we should in a blanket neglect those tongues that edify self
11 If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and he is a foreigner to me.
12 So it is with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church.
13 For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
16 If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say "Amen" to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying?
17 You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified.
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
19 But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue
in the church before people i would rather speak only in toungue that have an interpretation but there are moment that i just need to pray in the Spirit and to God , with groans cannot be explained by men or to men Rom 8:25-27 show times when we have no word to make a prayer sometimes because of what we are going through, then we pray in tongue , that is the Spirit expressing to God what our intellect cant say
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Any way i do not intent to cause hurt to any one and May God Forbid but even an experienced sailor can loose track . we must pay careful attention to what we have heard lest we drift away for waht we hear fro God id biding

Pastor skeete also mentioned that in verse 14 if you pray in an unknown tongue , although only God under stands when you are praying in the spirit you SHOULD (verse 15) also pray with understanding. So God does not give us a gift to edify ourselves but those around us must understand and it must benefit them not only ourselves. So if you speak in an unknown tongue... You must also be able to explain or someone around you should be able to understand/interpret what you're saying or else it's useless. What use is there if EVERYONE in the congregation speaks in tongue or a group of people, when none of them understand what each other is saying? Verse 28 says if no one can interpret let him keep *silent*. You can pray to God and the holy spirit translates but God is not a God of confusion and would not accept everyone speaking in an unknown tongue for the edification of themselves with no interpreter around. Verse 27 said they should do so one at a time and the limit is 3 person's the most doing so with an interpreter. Hope that helps.

How can a minister claim to teach the truth about speaking in tongues without any practical demonstration of the mysterious phenomenon by himself and his congregants? Let's not forget that the kingdom of God is not in WORD only, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and power of God.

What demonstration are you looking for? Because a biblical demonstration of what the Bible teaches about tongues would be for him to speak in English, to a room full of people that not only do not speak English, but speak many other languages different from each other, yet EVERYONE understand what he is saying in their OWN language, while he speaks English.

    2. If you were born again is the proof of that conversion speaking in tongues?
The answer to that question would require that we find scripture that uses speaking in tongues as proof of one being filled with the holy ghost or born of the spirit which is a part of the born again process.
Acts 10:44-48 gives such an account:
"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 FOR they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God..."
Here we find that the Jews knew the Gentiles were filled with the Holy Ghost because they heard the Gentiles speaking in tongues the same way they did.
So yes, the evidence was, and still is, the witness of seeing and hearing. (Please refer to my answer of Question 1 for the full explanation).
    Question 3:
Is it required of the Bible that we speak in tongues?
Jesus' requirement that one MUST be born again of the water and of the Spirit makes being born of the Spirit a requirement. Since speaking in tongues is the evidence of having received the Holy Ghost, then yes, it would be a requirement. But why?
The purpose is a spiritual communication with God, with words we cannot utter; we wouldn't know how to express in our limited human vocabulary. Rom. 1:26; 1 Cor. 14:2...
    Question 4:
If one does not speak with tongues, does that mean they would be lost?
This answer would coincide with Questions 2 and 3, as Jesus made being born again a requirement.

    • @denniskreative
      @denniskreative 3 года назад +1

Your whole argument falls apart because your initial question is flawed.
“If you were born again is the proof of that conversion speaking in tongues?”
Is the ONLY proof of that conversion speaking in tongues?
      No.
We see from scripture that the Spirit imparts many different gifts to many different people.
This absolute condition you put on the subject is NOT scriptural.

I am so.sorry for these poor people, being deceived by someone who don't understand the things of the Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are *spiritually discerned*
    Romans 16:18
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches *deceive the hearts of the simple*.
Randy Skeet think reading the Bible on the surface and in his flesh makes him a great preacher but he is so wrong.
The is the fact When you receive the Holy Spirit you must speak in Tongues
    Read Acts 10v 44-48
    especially vs 46.
if you have never spoken in tongues you Did Not Receive the Holy Spirit.

      Greetings my dear brother.
That entire chapter - Acts 10 - is about Peter's visit to a centurian. Peter, a Jew, was in Joppa...a Jewish town inhabited by Jews. The centurian was in Caesarea, a town inhabited by Romans...this is documented history. While the centurian awaited Peter's arrival, he called his friends and family so they could hear and learn what Peter would teach when he arrived. Peter and those with him spoke in tongues of the languages of the persons present in the centurian's house.
I pray for our wisdom in Jesus' name. GOD bless you.

There are 18 events in the Bible where people received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Only in 3 of the 18 events the people spoke in tongues. Could it be that in those 3 events there were specific reasons why they started speaking in tongues? I think so. The believing Jews that accompanied Peter had to see that the Gospel was meant for the non-Jews as well and therefore everyone in Cornelius's family started speaking in tongues.

Only the Truth will set you free. Truth preached by Pastor Skeetes sermon here is plain and biblical and timely to correct error and edify the church.

      1) Direct our attention to an important spiritual truth.
      2) To set a precedent to where the same circumstance need not be repeated in exactly this same way whenever it occurs elsewhere in scripture.
