This is the most simple and accurate explanation of this topic I have ever heard. Thank you so much Doug!
I made the critical mistake decades ago of trying to 'receive' the gift of tongues by repeating the word Hallelujah over and over. Eventually I did receive something and my tongue changed, but it was a demonic counterfeit. I can testify that Dougs message in this video is 100% correct. I wasted a large part of my life in charismatic churches chasing supposed apostolic gifts and healings. It is the greatest mistake I have ever made. In the end I had to renounce this experience to get away from the effects.
I can only hope my testimony warns and helps others to avoid this false practice and these kinds of charismatic churches.
Unfortunately, as the bible warns, there are many false/ unclean spirits in the world and there is often little or no protection for the unwary. Be careful folks.

I got the gift of tongues in 2006 I call it the night of penocost because it came over me at night after a long time in prayer it was many different one and with time with the Lord and his spirit teaching me I speak Korean and can read Korean German and and a few other. I only am able to speak it when the Lord wants me to teach about Jesus ... IAM sad to say I don't like in my old church anymore to since they like to show me off like I was a shinny new penny.. and I hated that . IAM in a new church now and I keep my mouth shut about my gift and only use it outside of church when the Lord allow me... IAM nothing special ... And it's the least of the gifts so really no big deal I just love hearing the true words of God for pastor's don't always have to check there doctrine so thank you for all your sermons and see you in the clouds

This is in line with a lot of other videos that go directly against the word of God. These videos almost never mention 1 Cor 14:2, which is a short verse but says a lot. It says with this tongue
    - we are NOT speaking to people
    - we are speaking to God
    - NO PERSON understands what we are saying
    - we speak MYSTERIES by the Holy Spirit
So from this verse it is clear that this tongue is NOT a foreign language.
Also 1 Cor 14:4 says, One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. If we are speaking a foreign language we do not know, then we are NOT edifying ourself, we would be edifying the listeners who understand.
Most videos against tongues conveniently skip these verses.
I am so thankful for the gift of tongues. I don't think I would have overcome as much as I have without it

In Acts ch.10 when the gentiles recieved the Holy Spirit and spoke in " tongues" how did the skeptical jews know that they weren't speaking in native languages that they already knew ?
Because it was a distinctive spiritual language, the same one they spoke at pentecost.

    • @jeanclaude7018
      @jeanclaude7018 3 месяца назад +1

Do you read the Bible at all? At Pentecost, there were 16 distinct HUMAN languages spoken by the apostles so the hearers could understand. Acts 2, 1-13, gives the EXACT details. These were NATIVE TONGUES of the hearers, NOT some mystery spiritual language. Stop twisting the Bible to justify gibberish.

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 3 месяца назад

@jeanclaude7018 There are a number of times that the Word will repeat something said or an event three times to:
      1) Direct our attention to an important spiritual truth.
      2) To set a precedent to where the same circumstance need not be repeated in as much detail elsewhere in scripture that it occurs.
In Acts ch.2, after the believers recieved the Holy Spirit and began speaking in " tongues", three times the men in the crowd questioned how they were hearing the believers speaking in their native languages. Why not only once ?
The reason is that the miracle for the men in the crowd was Hearing what the believers were saying in their native languages, not that the believers were speaking them.

    • @jeanclaude7018
      @jeanclaude7018 2 месяца назад

@@robertnieten7259 I was questioning this recently, so I studied again.
Is there any reason to doubt the first mention, where it says they began to SPEAK with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance? You can't just throw that out.

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 2 месяца назад

@jeanclaude7018 Thanks for your reply. First mention is important.
In 1Corinthians, Paul only mentions two manifestations of speaking in " tongues".
The first, is in private prayer for self edification.
Secondly, he mentions speaking in " tongues", followed by a believer with the gift of interpretation, is for the edification of a church gathering.
He calls the first, " the ( unknown) tongues that " no man knoweth"( 1Cor.14:2).
Taking it literally, if no man knows this language then it isn't native to this world. He also says that this language is his spirit praying. No one is born that can speak from their spirit, but we are taught early in life to speak from our mind the words that we want to speak.
As far as the gift of speaking In " tongues", requiring interpretation, why is it necessary if someone in the congregation might speak that native language ?
It is necessary because speaking in " tongues" is one spiritual language.
I believe that the reason that the word " tongue" is pluralized in scripture is because this spiritual language originally was the language that God confounded at the judgement at the Tower of Babel.
Think about it. The Word says that God created Adam in His image and likeness. Why then give him a language that He Himself didn't speak ?
Lastly, so in a sense the word " tongues", in scripture, is both singular and plural.

1 Corinthians 14:14- For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
@9:10 he tries to make an attempt to explain the meaning of the verse. However, I believe that his explanation is incorrect. The reason for this is because:
1 Corinthians 14:13-14- Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
From the verses above we can clearly see that the person speaking in tongues is among the persons whose mind is unfruitful together with the listeners. If that were not the case why would Paul say in verse 13 that he/she who prays in tongues should pray that he/she interpret. If you understand what you are saying you do not need to pray that you interpret, rather you would proceed to interpret.
Therefore in verse 14, Paul is indeed saying that the minds of those who speak in tongues are unfruitful/ do not understand what they are saying.

@brianzvashura8504 Yes those who speak in tongues speak in known languages, but an interpreter is not always needed:
Acts 2:6-11 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God!

    I read Corinthians chapter 14
I want you to focus on verse 14 Paul uses the word PRAY not speaking to man? He further states……..the one doing this is your spirit praying (not your carnal mind) and your carnal mind does not know what you are saying
So look at verse 13 Paul is teaching that for those who speak in tongues and pray in tongues that…..that same person should pray to God for the interpretation of whatever it is that they just said.
If Speaking in tongues was speaking in earthly language like German or French or whatever
Then that person speaking would not be praying to God in languages like German or French, Greek etc)
no (speaking in tongues) Is a gift from God and an unknown known earthly language that when spoken may have an impact on someone nearby they may hear you in their own language even though you are not speaking their language nor are you speaking your language…… you’re speaking a language that God gave you as a gift.

He slept in the tomb, and on the morning of the resurrection He said, “I am not yet ascended to My Father.” John 20:17. But on the day of apparent defeat the promise was given. “Today,” while dying on the cross as a malefactor, Christ assured the sinner, “You will be with Me in Paradise.”

For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.
If someone does not speak to people but to God, isn't that the definition of prayer? If so, is 1 Cor 14:2 supporting the practice of praying in tongues to God in a private setting (e.g. alone in a prayer closet, etc.)?

I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, [3] but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, [4] unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified. 1 Corinthians 14:1. There are at least 4 types of tongues. Yes, one of them is: existing lenguage = we can say for mission. But there are others=non existing lenguages. Because than why we need interpretation of them. Not translation, but interpretation! Why? Becuase the Holy Spirit prays in us, which id for people who don't have this gift need to be interpreted! With all the love of God I'm saying Mr. Bachelor is limiting this gift! The work of the Holy Spirit. I started to pray in tongues however I didn't know it is in the Bible, but the Holy Spirit felt on me one morning (hard to describe, was a powerful moment) and I started to pray in tongues and I see a huge benefit of it. Many people in my church do so. No, we are not those radical charismatics, who force people to pray in tongues. A gift can't be forced! But we see it biblical. Please, study more the Bible and diferentiate of which type of lenguage is Paul talking in the Bible to not misunderstand this gift!

Addressing speaking in tongues: Read the entire 1 Corinthians 14. It is contrary to what you are saying. Paul is emphasizing building up the church. In fact, that is the main theme here. Paul also points out that tongues should be used in the church in an orderly way. He mentions the importance of having an interpreter. Have you ever been able to interpret your tongues? There's is a big discrepancy in the Adventist argument for tongues. 1Cor14 dismantles this. Why did they need an interpreter if like the gift in Acts the languages were supernaturally interpreted? Why does the gift of interpretation exist? Why was Paul asking them to "get and interpreter" or shut up. Why should ordinary languages be classed as a "spiritual gift" when it needs to be learned in schools but paul says "pray to interpret". How many adventist prayed to learn a foreign language and new it instantly without years of schooling? In Acts they began to speak in togues as soon as the spirit fell, not after years of Rosetta stone.
So we need to consider these things:
    1. The gift has to be something supernatural and not learned because almost every account where people received the spirit they spoke in tongues immediately. Also Paul says to "pray for it".
    2. Paul said the person edifies himself and not others but communicates to God ONLY and NOT TO MAN.
    3. The gift is considered to be a mystery. Languages are not mysteries. Yes they are foreign but not "mysterious".
    4. Paul said he did speak in tongues more than them all meaning he never discredited it but practiced it himself.

It was ok for Ellen white to fall on the floor and babble and no one interpreted her they waited for her to tell them. That’s not biblical there’s your evil spirit

Paul rebukes you Doug in Corinthians 13:1 when he defines 2 types of tongues the language of men and the language of angels. All people can speak the language of men but only those who have the gift of tongues can speak the language of angels you are always so confused

      ***1 Corinthians 13:1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

      ***1 Corinthians 13: 1-3
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Paul is not saying that he speaks with the tongue of angels. He's making an exaggeration to prove a point.
      >>>
In this passage Paul lists off a few of the spiritual gifts.
Prophecy, faith, and the gift of tongues.
      >>>
Pay attention to how he describes each one.
It's not just prophecy. It's understanding all mysteries and all knowledge.
It's not just faith. It's faith that can remove mountains.
      >>>
It's not just tongues. It's the tongues of angels.
      >>>
It's saying it doesn't matter what you can do, if you're not doing it with love then you're wasting your time.
No gift is greater than love.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels....can you speak all tongues of men? Note the word if ...meaning even though I speak in the tongues of men and angels and have not love I'm a cymbal....what if I understand all mysteries and all knowledge (impossible ,only God knows all) but Paul is saying if I have them and have not love then it's nothing
When you speak in tongues do you understand what you say?...God is not the author of confusion
Paul says in chapter 14 if there's no one to interpret what you said of what essence is it?
The example of speaking in tongues from acts 2 is so different from what you teach... there's no example of what you claim from the Bible ...we never saw anyone speaking in the so called language of angels you claim
Acts 2 and 19 point out the same method of speaking
Paul never spoke in the tongues of angels he only said “if"
He was trying to show how important love is....do not misunderstand what it's meant for
I believe as christians we should follow the Bible and the Bible alone
This is just a text too misunderstood by so many people
Speaking in tongues is taken as the greatest of spiritual gifts which is so wrong as Paul said he would prefer if everyone prophesies
Speaking in tongues is a sign to unbelievers of the power of God breaking barrier of languages
      Amen

Hello could you please clarify your response in just a few lines you mixed versus together that I don’t understand
Do you realize that Paul speaks in the tongues of angels to God and speaks in the tongues of men which means different human languages?
Based on this biblical fact I don’t understand your response

I love Doug but he is wrong. Speaking in tongues is biblical. The Lord gives us the gift of interpreting as well. I repent for i listen to man more than i read. Lord forgive us. Thats why its crucial to read and be lead by the Holy Spirit. I have heard and spoken in tongues. It is scripture. Tongues is not the definition of world languages. Repent.
