  • On Sunday, 94 people were killed in the capital, Dhaka, including 14 police officers. Many more were injured, and a curfew was put in place. Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has announced that an interim government will now run the country and called for calm. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had led Bangladesh for almost 20 years, had to leave the country. On Monday, she was seen boarding a military helicopter as large crowds ignored the curfew and rushed toward her palace.Reports say that Hasina landed at an airbase near New Delhi, India, on a Bangladesh Air Force plane. Her departure followed weeks of protests that had already caused around 300 deaths. The violence reached a peak on Sunday night, with nearly 100 more people killed and the curfew imposed. After news of Hasina's resignation spread, celebrations broke out in the streets. People cheered and celebrated as they stormed the prime minister’s palace.
