I've never thanked anyone before for putting a song up - thank you. This is the best song about addiction I've ever heard; I'm in my late fifties, a recovering addict, a former teenage punk rocker - I've heard them ALL. Did I say thank you?

If the 4 dislikes aren't from guitar players, it's 4 people that were having a party and they weren't invited. Peter Laughner is gone, but we still have his music forever. The good die young.
Sylvia Plath, Ian Curtis….Peter Laughner….genius that spoke the truth down to the bone. His music cuts to the emotional core of my soul, emptying every gram of sorrow onto the floor. His music is authentic as it comes.
This guy is so fantastic, it really is evocative music. I feel like crying in frustration that he died so young and hardly got off the ground/was just getting started musically. We have been robbed of some great music
I sure do wish he could have lived longer. There's no telling what amazing art he would have produced. I guess in the end we should feel lucky he shared anything at all. RIP Peter
From Smog Veil, "The work will finally see the light of day in 2011 as the Peter Laughner LP series debuts in April on Record Store Day. Each LP in the series will feature the best possible audio quality and extensively researched liner notes including never before published photos and amazing interviews. We've tracked down plenty of never before heard recordings, including master reels of secret studio sessions, pristine band rehearsal recordings, and great live recordings."

Hi can you tell me more about Peter? I´m somehow obsessed by him, because I can identify with him, only that I´m fifteen years younger. He was at the right time at the right places, but never made it. A lost genius.
@BabylonAGoGo I agree. It breaks my heart that no one knows his name. If nothing else, he wrote a song that ended up on GN'R's Spaghetti Incident, where they ruin all my favorite songs...
FYI, just got an Email from Smog Veil, who issues recordings by Pere Ubu & Rocket From The Tombs. "Smog Veil Clearing The Air newsletter #73, February 2010...Heck, we may even get that Peter Laughner box set done." perviously, Wikipedia: "As of 2007, the Smog Veil record label is reported to be releasing a Laughner box set (with tapes procured from Handsome Productions, David Thomas, Tim Wright, and others) which may materialize in 2010. I will never forget that guy, although I never met him, and it was all a different time, but what the fuck. I feel for him, being a musician myself, Have a heart!!!
Most of the lyrics sites for this song have the lyrics so ridiculously wrong, it's like they were transcribed by someone who was either mostly deaf or couldn't speak English. I don't get it given that it's very clear what he's singing
Poor Peter ? Poor you and me , his week definitely beat our years ( since we´re in the quotation business and this reminds me a lot of the person I have in mind :-)) .
@@jhoneydog Oh yeah, this geezer must have been fanatically into the Velvets / Lou ... for sure . What is most poignant is the potential we get to listen to in these recordings ,and the way he opted to chuck it all out the door.
Sounds mid-sixties Dylan with some Velvet Underground influence. It probably would be better as a finished studio, I distortion of the vocal kinda gets in the way.
Jeff Tweedy is famous for 'lightly copping' other peoples songs. Check out John Cale's,"Hello" from Vintage Violence and then listen to the 1st tune-also the title song-on Wilco's 'Wilco/The Album'..pretty obvious cop.
+TPAwavelink misunderstood off of the album being there is the song where jeff tweedy used a lot of the influences of this tune. I dont hear it at all in the song "Wilco"
Oh please, the Cale song in question & the Wilco song share a sliver of the same very basic rock/ragtime/blues riff. Additionally, "Misunderstood" was properly credited to Laughner in the liner notes to the Being There LP.
it misses my favorite line... 'with your japanese hips. and your spanish lips' tho... also i i actually like the velvet underground quality of this recording
He never made it to the magic 27 gone by 24 ,what a shame and until now I had missed him another shame .This has elements of Dylan and The Velvet Underground " We were having a party but we weren't invited " Thanks for posting this
That's exactly what I was thinking, especially as soon as I heard him begin to sing (actually, from the first few notes of the song itself, to tell you the truth).
Best song Dylan and Lou Reed never wrote. Laughner took the best of thème both but being more truly poetic, without hiding himself behind ironic shit or teenage metaphoric stuff. One of the five best songs every written and early impossible to cover. Up there with Nick Drake.
No. If i'm not mistaken he was with rocket from the tombs in their very early days and after that played with mirrors. Clevo has always had such fantastic yet sadly underrated bands.

The Drone captures the scratchy burnt feeling many of us have known. Beautiful work.
This is what I live for. To discover and appreciate music that chills me to the bone.
Peter Laughner singing and lyrics reminds me of Bob Dylan in a lot of his songs. The guitar is fantastic in this song.
So true
This whole collection just digs into my soul and puts me into a daze.
So beautiful and horrifyingly sad.
R.I.P. Peter.
Perfect song
Jeff Tweedy does state that he used this on Misunderstood on the lp Being There and it brought me to listening to Laughner solo.
Thank you for sharing I love him solo and look for bands he's played with still my favorite is rocket from the tomb's guy was in so deep
I could almost swear that he and Wilco did this song but maybe that was just a dream...
