Simplest solution is to pay people that work on or at the tracks already and have them be flaggers. They know the sport and more important the track. Bottom line is they need to PAY people to flag that know what they are doing period!
I cannot imagine the hassle of this crew having to advertise and interview a few hundred people in a different state each weekend, then treated as employees (workers comp, gig laws, etc). Places like RedBud there must be hundreds of dudes in the pits that would say FUCK YEAH if asked, but making it a business with paid employees is a whole new shitstorm
A big issue with the flagging situation is flaggers seem to be responsible for both yellow and blue flags which is just stupid as those 2 flags require you to pay attention to opposite directions of the track. They should only ever be responsible for 1 colour flag

Gotta say that Ducati looks like a solid machine. They're already winning in the Italian GP series in very convincing style. I just watched a video on it, and those bikes are sweet looking. Also, they went in a different direction with their engines, which is exactly what this sport needs. If Ducati can keep their bikes competitive price-wise in the US market, their future will undoubtedly be a bright one.

When I first started going to motocross races I was 7 and I flagged the mini bike class. The next year I was racing but I would help out if needed to flag the 250 or open class. As I got older through my racing career I still helped out when needed. Never did I hear of anyone being fined. But some people are ignorant or just don’t give a crap and I’ve seen numerous film footage lately of flaggers being absent from crash areas and that has caused other unsuspecting riders to crash themselves.

His armed was shattered to pieces and was told he would never ride again and he showed he can doesnt change the fact of how much weaker that arm is and how much strain it puts on his good arm. The 250 would just be a lot easier holding onto.
There has been a major problem with flagging for years. I have said for years someone needs to come out with a lighting system. Then, a handful of professionals watch the race from a booth full of tv screens showing the whole track flipping a switch to aluminate the correct light.Yes they travel with the series.

Yea, fining someone you just pulled out of the air who is a little ignorant to race intensity is stupid. Sounds like easy money to fine temp flaggers. As a past racer, Ive been a flagger at Thunder Valley. In fact, I had to put the yellow out for villipoto 2x in one moto on the downhill in the middle of the track, when he was on his pro circuit 250. I couldn't imagine getting fined for a job that paid lunch and a track crew shirt, lol. I would gag myself to throw up the hot dog in the track crew shirt and say, "here's your stuff back, were even". Crazy I flagged over 10 years ago and the pay for flaggers today is the same as it was back then.
It wasn’t until 2019 The Japanese Manufacturers were putting electric start. Hell even the 2019 KX250f had a Kickstart. I believe the Brand that was still ahead of its Time was KTM as they electric starts on their bike prior 2019. Still they should give people options for an electric start, and if they are not gonna innovate bring the damn 125 and 250 2 Strokes back!
radio comm in helmets with each rider having a spotter, like Nascar. Lights are great, but you still need someone to push a button. And even with that, you might see a yellow on a blind jump, so do you go left, middle or right? Radios are the safest way to protect the investment of your rider

At Budd.'s back in my day we were all Volunteers from the Southern MD Dirt Riders Club which bartered track days for working the Races....pound MD dirt and clay Davey and fine this.
Dylan Schwartz is in 20th right now with 125 points. The next active rider is Talon Hawkins at 105 (24th), Jett Reynolds at 99 (26th), and Mark Fineis at 77 (32nd). Other non active riders can of course show up to race a single round of MX at the last round, but it's in the 10s-20s or points they need, not 4 or 5 (a realistic finishing spot for those guys) to make the mains and not go to the LCQ for 21st and 22nd gate position.

Back in the late '90s I volunteered as the track crew in Supercross. For a ticket and a really crappy meal, they worked us like dogs. It was cool to be on the track during the race but they really took advantage. If they didn't get enough volunteers, they would hire homeless to move the tough blocks and ad banners. Not to mention the OSHA violations. All that to say,if i was at risk of getting finned for volunteer work they can forget about it!
2018 rmz450 had over 20 updates. Then in 2019 rmz250 got same updates. Alex Martin won 250 MX motos on rmz250 in 2020 or 2021. Rmz250 has literally 1hp less than the Honda 250. But sure, it hasn't been updated in 10+ years and no one can win on them.
In comparison to other brands it’s a little embarrassing. He’s got a point. Just look at Kawi. They updated the entire engine, new forks, engine mounts, and more in 2020. I don’t know a ton about other brands but in terms of development and making the bike better it’s way behind. Probably decent for consumer like he said but not the same level as other bikes.

Everyone always wants to say, oh Suzuki is junk they haven't updated. What's the point? They have a very solid platform. There's no reason to try and fix something that's not broke. I personally don't understand people's fixation on constantly changing the bikes. Find something solid, and leave it. I was a volunteer flagger at A1 and A2 for a few times in early 90's and in 2010 and 2014. I was there ALL day from practice to last race of the night. I brought my own lunch, and some money for a late meal before mains. I did it for love of sport and to get in free and up close to the races. I met many great people. However, this was under different management back then. If they want to try and fine a flagger good luck collecting. I'd be a National flagger, if I was paid and housed with flights to every race. I'm disabled but can still move around lol. If I got fined as a volunteer, which is not a glamorous job, I'd throw the fine in the face followed by a straight right hand to the brainless idiot who thinks I should be fined because you don't have any way of communicating with a flagger on the uphill and downhill of a jump. I'm loving this seasons racing but I hate when I hear more about what's going on behind the scenes than the actual racers. Thanks for the info Chris. Still want an AP#7 Cowboy hat.
When a rider crash on the opposite side of the track where you're not, how do you signal riders to pass on your side of the track ? The other way around I know you just push them to the other side with gesture
I was referring to when a rider crashes on the back side of a jump. How do they alert the flashers on the face of the jump? We've seen Deegan and others this yr crash while landing on bikes that crashed on the downhill side of a jump. They need to figure out how to alert flashers on take off and downhill side of jump. You can't just push the riders over if three flashers don't know anyone down on the backside of the jump. Did that make it easier for you to understand?
Davey Coombs should be fined! Still can’t figure out why people flock to make this guy wealthy! He has taken more out of the sport than he’s ever given!
All major motorsports should have a dedicated team for marshals. To many large motorsports organisations rely on volunteers that are put in a high stress environment with minimal return. Lights should be on major high risk features.

If your not a intermediate to pro level a Suzuki is fine... Man those were the best bikes on the market decade ago and honestly listen to what the former pros say the bikes haven't gotten that much better since 06-10.... The kickstart is the only issue still the best turning bike that's also stable. Ken's bike is literally running stock 250 triple clamps and a ton of other stock parts and he competes... The lack of over rev is the only issue with these bikes engine in stock form.
People complain to much about Suzuki, in the bigger picture what they are doin does help our sport and racing. It's at the point where getting a new bike and racing is just about out of reach for so many people that love our sport but it has gotten so so expensive who the hell can afford a new bike a d still have time to ride it let alone race it, cause ur working so much just to pay for it and the upkeep. Suzuki offers a brand new bike at a much more reasonable price if take a brand new RMZ over a 5 year old Yamaha/ Honda any day and just because the bike doesn't have electric start doesn't mean it's a bad bike...just a few years ago none of them did and we all got along just fine with out them

AMA Pro Supercross, Motocross, Arenacross should all have paid safety people who follow the series from track to track like the Asterisk medical crews do. Safety isn't where they should be pinching pennies. Getting volunteers to act as safety monitors is absurd. The factory teams should have boycotted this long ago.

I was thinkin a yellow light leading up to every jump mounted horizonally with the option of left,middle,& right yellow lights telling riders where the downed rider/riders are & allowing them time to adjust their lines accordingly. A flagman could hit the left, middle, or right button on the controller then proceed to wave the flag like normal. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work bro.., Appreciate you & what u do
As a moto flagger, they are absolutely smoking with that idea. Lol we "volunteer" for ~100 and a cheeseburger . Many of us know how to do safety flagging very well (it's literally just common sense for the most part), but anything the AMA thinks about is absolutely stupid. Dirtbag Davey Combs is like all professional sports GM's/ Commissioners that think they know better than everyone else and run their teams/ sports into the ground and it absolutely doesn't surprise me that he is so disconnected from the actual problem that he would blame the volunteers. Communication with the rider in there helmets, I think we’re the only means of motorsports that doesn’t do it. Riders can’t even look at their pit board majority of time let alone some flagger.
They should have a flagger school and certify everyone who flags a professional ama event and should pay them a decent wage as well. Then maybe they could fine them if they screw up.

I was a volunteer flagger at A1 and A2 for a few times in early 90's and in 2010 and 2014. I was there ALL day from practice to last race of the night. I brought my own lunch, and some money for a late meal before mains. I did it for love of sport and to get in free and up close to the races. I met many great people. However, this was under different management back then. If they want to try and fine a flagger good luck collecting. I'd be a National flagger, if I was paid and housed with flights to every race. I'm disabled but can still move around lol. If I got fined as a volunteer, which is not a glamorous job, I'd throw the fine in the face followed by a straight right hand to the brainless idiot who thinks I should be fined because you don't have any way of communicating with a flagger on the uphill and downhill of a jump. I'm loving this seasons racing but I hate when I hear more about what's going on behind the scenes than the actual racers. Thanks for the info Chris. Still want an AP#7 Cowboy hat.
When a rider crash on the opposite side of the track where you're not, how do you signal riders to pass on your side of the track ? The other way around I know you just push them to the other side with gesture
I was referring to when a rider crashes on the back side of a jump. How do they alert the flashers on the face of the jump? We've seen Deegan and others this yr crash while landing on bikes that crashed on the downhill side of a jump. They need to figure out how to alert flashers on take off and downhill side of jump. You can't just push the riders over if three flashers don't know anyone down on the backside of the jump. Did that make it easier for you to understand?

All major motorsports should have a dedicated team for marshals. To many large motorsports organisations rely on volunteers that are put in a high stress environment with minimal return. Lights should be on major high risk features.
Roczen could run with Deegan for a few laps maybe but after that Deegan would absolutely crush him.

If your not a intermediate to pro level a Suzuki is fine... Man those were the best bikes on the market decade ago and honestly listen to what the former pros say the bikes haven't gotten that much better since 06-10.... The kickstart is the only issue still the best turning bike that's also stable. Ken's bike is literally running stock 250 triple clamps and a ton of other stock parts and he competes... The lack of over rev is the only issue with these bikes engine in stock form.
Messing with the volunteers flagging the races is a good idea if your paying em well and of course you love you some lightening rod lol

People complain to much about Suzuki, in the bigger picture what they are doin does help our sport and racing. It's at the point where getting a new bike and racing is just about out of reach for so many people that love our sport but it has gotten so so expensive who the hell can afford a new bike a d still have time to ride it let alone race it, cause ur working so much just to pay for it and the upkeep. Suzuki offers a brand new bike at a much more reasonable price if take a brand new RMZ over a 5 year old Yamaha/ Honda any day and just because the bike doesn't have electric start doesn't mean it's a bad bike...just a few years ago none of them did and we all got along just fine with out them

AMA Pro Supercross, Motocross, Arenacross should all have paid safety people who follow the series from track to track like the Asterisk medical crews do. Safety isn't where they should be pinching pennies. Getting volunteers to act as safety monitors is absurd. The factory teams should have boycotted this long ago.

Fining volunteer flaggers is the dumbest thing I've ever heard!😂😂. Hence the word volunteer. If you decide to hire and pay a full time flagging crew and transport the the races, train them and give them per diem with a big enough salary to make it all worthwhile then you might have a few options but this initial one of fining someone who donated their time makes me think Davey got kicked in the head like Cooper Webb did by A.C. only without the helmet.😂

it kinda makes sense coming off those injuries... just pin it and hang on is easier than managing a 450 when your not in top shape.
I was thinkin a yellow light leading up to every jump mounted horizonally with the option of left,middle,& right yellow lights telling riders where the downed rider/riders are & allowing them time to adjust their lines accordingly. A flagman could hit the left, middle, or right button on the controller then proceed to wave the flag like normal. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work bro.., Appreciate you & what u do
As a moto flagger, they are absolutely smoking with that idea. Lol we "volunteer" for ~100 and a cheeseburger . Many of us know how to do safety flagging very well (it's literally just common sense for the most part), but anything the AMA thinks about is absolutely stupid. Dirtbag Davey Combs is like all professional sports GM's/ Commissioners that think they know better than everyone else and run their teams/ sports into the ground and it absolutely doesn't surprise me that he is so disconnected from the actual problem that he would blame the volunteers. He is a tyrant and at some point the riders, teams, and track owners have to join ranks against this type of behavior and put an end to it. Not that I would pay a fine if I were to volunteer and find myself subject to his arbitrary shenanigans, but all signs point to him being petty and if a flagger was subject to a "fine" and they didn't pay up I can see him punishing that persons kid with made up infractions and dq's. This can only lead to things not ending well for him. I'm honestly so tired of him and all the negativity around him that affects a sport I love deeply, that I cancelled my Peacock subscription because I don't want to watch races any more. Communication with the rider in there helmets, I think we’re the only means of motorsports that doesn’t do it. Riders can’t even look at their pit board majority of time let alone some flagger.
They should have a flagger school and certify everyone who flags a professional ama event and should pay them a decent wage as well. Then maybe they could fine them if they screw up.
