It may well be the head gasket but don't agree with the way you diagnosed it, the pressure in the system is controlled by the (new) filler cap and will always be the same irrespective of weather exhaust gases are leaking in. I would check the thermostat before spending £1400 on a head gasket.
Remove the thermostat if thermostat aint opening it will cause pressurisation at top half of the engine plus temp is staying normal so we'll worth trying it out you've got nothing to lose by it wish you luck with it guys
The expansion tank cap is rated at a certain psi, it's there for when the pressure gets too much to relieve the pressure, when a car is functioning correctly it doesn't make that pressure....so with the pipes being rock hard (pressurising) and the fumes in the expansion tank I'm saying it's the head gasket with the only other thing I can think It could be is the EGR cooler
The thermostat needs checking, and the system needs bleeding. It could be a blocked matrix. When running the pipes will be rock solid, i cannot understand why they believe they should be soft. The point of the system is to raise the boiling point of the coolant by keeping it under pressure. There is a simple and cheap tool for checking for combustion gas in the coolant. If you think you have an airlock in the heater fill the coolant when the engine is cold , start the engine and run the engine at a fast tickover for 2 mins and that will blast the full pressure of the water pump through the heater , because thermostwat holds the coolant in the block , if that does not clear it the headgasket has most likely blown . you can always check the pipes to the heater for warmth .
Id do a sniff test with the correct machine to check for engine gases in the header tank before spending the 1400. Im sure Liam's dad has the kit at his place. Already mentioned a pressure test and someone said about the thermostat removal. Doesn't look good for the LR so far though fellas

If it actually is the headgasket it will be obvious, in that it won't have any power. The primary symptom is that you lose compression. This is before smoke or radiator or water pump issues. Most of the time if there is no mixing of oil and water its just a bad radiator that cant dissipate heat.

95% of the time it isn't the headgasket if it runs ok and no mixing of oil and water. Generally its either a blockage, stuck thermostat or most likely a shitty radiatior that can't dissipate heat. They will blow water into the overflow if overheating/ Unlikely to be waterpump, usually they leak externally but only after 350000kms.
So these RUclips “ Mechanics” have a workshop but can’t even test for gasses in coolant? I knew rover engines had head issues on petrols but not on diesels
Watch our latest video on it if you haven't already 😉
Are you kidding British vehicles are still blowing head gaskets hasn't changed since the 1960s l had a couple of zHillman Gazzells and they blew head gaskets regularly now although rusty that 1990s Nissan 100X its head gasket wasn't blown why Japanese vehicles from the 1990s are the best vehicles ever made in Australia were Japanese vehicles don't rust and this is in N.S.W were we have a yearly registration inspection and yes l do own a 1997 Toyota Hilux never blown a head gasket ever and never let me down in the five years l owned it as we all Land Rover products are so unreliable compared with Toyota also my Toyota Hilux has done 439000 kilometres and doesn't burn oil or blow smoke runs great and the heater works and also the air-conditioning and no rust issues at all also in Australia Toyota's are number one they are everywhere and 30 year old Toyota Hiace vans are still driving around been still used by Tradesmen and for deliveries l see them all the time and a Toyota Land Cruiser is 500 times better than any crappy Land Rover and as you know you can drive a Land Rover into the outback but if you want to get back you take a Land Cruiser
Ha ha you'd think we'd be used to it by now
@@TransformotionVR l suppose you think changing head gaskets reconditioning engines ect is fun and also expensive well most Australians who buy Toyota's don't want to spend large amounts of money keeping there Toyota's going remember a Toyota is for life a m d there are 25 and 30 year old Toyota's driving around that still have there original engines and head gaskets and that goes for my 27 year old Toyota Hilux who is the smarter car owners Australians or Britain's there is minor tinkering and major tinkering and that's another reason why British classic cars are cheap and the most expensive car l seen sell on an online auction site is aud $40000 and that was a P4B Rover so any classic British car is worth a lot less than that because the cheapest brand new cars sell for around $20000 and they both are crap cars so if you price your classic car over aud $20000 it will not sell l have seen many British cars sell for under aud $20000 convert that into British pounds and there are many when converted into English pounds are under £10000 but l have seen many classic Toyota's actually sell privately for over aud $10000 infact a 1997 Toyota Hilux like mine sell for aud $10000 because the Hilux had been resprayed and that Hilux had less kilometres on it than my Hilux
I'll give you your money back on it.. 💵👀
🤣 I bet you would ha ha

@@TransformotionVR 🤣🤣
Why is he driving with his hood up
Ha ha I didnt want to be seen in a freelander 🤣🤣
Best place for these is in the scrap yard
🤣🤣
No offence guys but hope you dont rely on repairing cars for a living as not one has clue
Why is that?
@@TransformotionVR dont get me wrong the videos are humorous but to diagnose that as a head gasket by trying to squeeze coolant pipes is just nonsense. You never checked for air locks, stuck thermostat, heater pipes, blockages etc. You can buy a combustion leak test kit for a tenner.
Background music is pointless
always one lol
@@cosmos7492 One what?
👍
It's a shit box 😂 why bother
Ha ha 😂
